Chapter 486
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 486:
âAre you hurt?â Norton asked abruptly, noticing the wound on Maxineâs ankle.
Maxine took a quick look and shrugged it off. âOh, itâs just a scratch from my high heels earlier today.â
âWhy didnât you put a bandage on it? Doesnât it hurt?â Norton asked, crouching down and gently touching the scratch. Maxine winced slightly and replied, âItâll probably heal by tomorrow.â
Norton, however, refused to ignore the wound. He went to get the medical kit and meticulously cleaned and treated her injury. To anyone watching, it might have seemed like Maxine was suffering from a serious injury.
Maxine sighed in resignation. âIs this really necessary?â
Norton looked up at her with a serious expression. âEverything about you is significant to me.â
Maxine made a face of exasperation, but her heart warmed as she observed the sincerity in his expression. Coming from an average family where her parents had always neglected her, she had been burdened with various chores since she was young. As she grew older and became a star, she would send money to her family but maintained a certain distance from them. She never felt much affection from her family.

Yet, it seemed that Norton was filling that void for her. Maxine leaned in, lifted his chin, and kissed him gently. Norton was caught completely off guard by Maxineâs unexpected kiss. He was elated and momentarily at a loss for how to react.
Maxine couldnât help but laugh at his silly, astonished expression. âOh, silly Norton.â Anyone who had thought of him as just a playboy would be stunned to see him like this.
Norton, still in shock, stared at Maxine and stammered, âMaxine, you⦠you actually kissed me?â
His astonishment was understandable, given how difficult it had been for him to win Maxine over. They had been together for less than a month, and their kisses had been rare. He always had to take the lead, hesitant to be too passionate. Most of the time, he would only manage a brief kiss before stepping away. This time, it was Maxine who had taken the initiative, which made it very special for him.
Nortonâs happiness was evident as he grinned like a giddy fan.
âYouâre such a silly,â Maxine said, playfully pinching his cheek.
âYeah, Maxine!â Norton exclaimed, lifting her into his arms and spinning her around joyfully.
âSlow down!â Maxine laughed, unable to resist the infectious joy of his beaming smile.
Norton paused for a moment, gently cupping her face in his hands. His eyes were filled with joy and love, as if he cherished every second of being near her. Slowly, he leaned in, closing the space between them.
Maxineâs heart fluttered, and she found herself gradually closing her eyes, letting the moment carry her away. Their breaths mingled, and just as their lips were about to meet, Nortonâs phone rang loudly, breaking the intimate moment.
His expression darkened instantly, annoyance flashing in his eyes. Who could be so annoying? Norton wondered.
Maxine pursed her lips and opened her eyes. As she waited for him to answer the phone, Norton said, âLetâs just ignore it.â
He continued to lean in toward her lips, but before he could complete the kiss, his phone rang once more. His frustration grew.
Maxine managed a smile and said, âYou should answer it first. It might be important.â
Norton took a deep breath, determined to find out who was calling. If it wasnât urgent, he swore heâd lose it. âNorton,â came a soft and distressed voice from the other end.
Norton immediately reined in his anger and asked, âJada? Whatâs the matter?â
Maxine turned her attention toward him as she heard Jadaâs name.
Norton, caught off guard, asked, âJada, why are youââ
âNorton, Iâm so sorry for what happened today. Iâm truly happy that youâve found someone you love. Maybe I expressed things poorly. I never really learned how to love properly.â Jadaâs voice was low and tremulous, sounding pitiful.
âJada, why are you saying this? Havenât you always been in love with Andrew?â
âAndrewâ¦â Jadaâs voice faltered with confusion. âIâm not sure. My mother always wanted me to be with Andrew, so Iâve been pursuing him since I was a child. I thought I loved him, but today I realized that maybe I donât. If I truly loved him, I wouldâve been devastated to see him with someone else, but I wasnât.â
âNorton,â Jada said with impatience, eager to return to Maxine, âdonât worry. Everythingâs fine. You should get some rest now.â
After that, he was ready to hang up the phone.
But on the other end, Jada bit her lip in frustration. Couldnât Norton read between the lines? Was she being too indirect? Suddenly, she screamed, âAh! What do you want? Let go of me! Do you know who I am? Iâm Jada Riggs! Help me, Norton! Iâm at Sunflower Park!â
Nortonâs heart skipped a beat. Before he could respond, the line went dead.
âWhatâs going on?â Maxine asked.
Norton frowned. âMaxine, stay here. Somethingâs happened to Jada,â he said, already preparing to leave.
Maxine didnât ask for details and simply responded, âDrive safely.â
âOkay, Iâll return as quickly as I can.â Norton looked at Maxine, then pulled her in and gave her a deep, lingering kiss on the lips.
