Chapter 486

Comeback Of The Adored Heiress

Chapter 486:

“Are you hurt?” Norton asked abruptly, noticing the wound on Maxine’s ankle.

Maxine took a quick look and shrugged it off. “Oh, it’s just a scratch from my high heels earlier today.”

“Why didn’t you put a bandage on it? Doesn’t it hurt?” Norton asked, crouching down and gently touching the scratch. Maxine winced slightly and replied, “It’ll probably heal by tomorrow.”

Norton, however, refused to ignore the wound. He went to get the medical kit and meticulously cleaned and treated her injury. To anyone watching, it might have seemed like Maxine was suffering from a serious injury.

Maxine sighed in resignation. “Is this really necessary?”

Norton looked up at her with a serious expression. “Everything about you is significant to me.”

Maxine made a face of exasperation, but her heart warmed as she observed the sincerity in his expression. Coming from an average family where her parents had always neglected her, she had been burdened with various chores since she was young. As she grew older and became a star, she would send money to her family but maintained a certain distance from them. She never felt much affection from her family.

Yet, it seemed that Norton was filling that void for her. Maxine leaned in, lifted his chin, and kissed him gently. Norton was caught completely off guard by Maxine’s unexpected kiss. He was elated and momentarily at a loss for how to react.

Maxine couldn’t help but laugh at his silly, astonished expression. “Oh, silly Norton.” Anyone who had thought of him as just a playboy would be stunned to see him like this.

Norton, still in shock, stared at Maxine and stammered, “Maxine, you… you actually kissed me?”

His astonishment was understandable, given how difficult it had been for him to win Maxine over. They had been together for less than a month, and their kisses had been rare. He always had to take the lead, hesitant to be too passionate. Most of the time, he would only manage a brief kiss before stepping away. This time, it was Maxine who had taken the initiative, which made it very special for him.

Norton’s happiness was evident as he grinned like a giddy fan.

“You’re such a silly,” Maxine said, playfully pinching his cheek.

“Yeah, Maxine!” Norton exclaimed, lifting her into his arms and spinning her around joyfully.

“Slow down!” Maxine laughed, unable to resist the infectious joy of his beaming smile.

Norton paused for a moment, gently cupping her face in his hands. His eyes were filled with joy and love, as if he cherished every second of being near her. Slowly, he leaned in, closing the space between them.

Maxine’s heart fluttered, and she found herself gradually closing her eyes, letting the moment carry her away. Their breaths mingled, and just as their lips were about to meet, Norton’s phone rang loudly, breaking the intimate moment.

His expression darkened instantly, annoyance flashing in his eyes. Who could be so annoying? Norton wondered.

Maxine pursed her lips and opened her eyes. As she waited for him to answer the phone, Norton said, “Let’s just ignore it.”

He continued to lean in toward her lips, but before he could complete the kiss, his phone rang once more. His frustration grew.

Maxine managed a smile and said, “You should answer it first. It might be important.”

Norton took a deep breath, determined to find out who was calling. If it wasn’t urgent, he swore he’d lose it. “Norton,” came a soft and distressed voice from the other end.

Norton immediately reined in his anger and asked, “Jada? What’s the matter?”

Maxine turned her attention toward him as she heard Jada’s name.

Norton, caught off guard, asked, “Jada, why are you—”

“Norton, I’m so sorry for what happened today. I’m truly happy that you’ve found someone you love. Maybe I expressed things poorly. I never really learned how to love properly.” Jada’s voice was low and tremulous, sounding pitiful.

“Jada, why are you saying this? Haven’t you always been in love with Andrew?”

“Andrew…” Jada’s voice faltered with confusion. “I’m not sure. My mother always wanted me to be with Andrew, so I’ve been pursuing him since I was a child. I thought I loved him, but today I realized that maybe I don’t. If I truly loved him, I would’ve been devastated to see him with someone else, but I wasn’t.”

“Norton,” Jada said with impatience, eager to return to Maxine, “don’t worry. Everything’s fine. You should get some rest now.”

After that, he was ready to hang up the phone.

But on the other end, Jada bit her lip in frustration. Couldn’t Norton read between the lines? Was she being too indirect? Suddenly, she screamed, “Ah! What do you want? Let go of me! Do you know who I am? I’m Jada Riggs! Help me, Norton! I’m at Sunflower Park!”

Norton’s heart skipped a beat. Before he could respond, the line went dead.

“What’s going on?” Maxine asked.

Norton frowned. “Maxine, stay here. Something’s happened to Jada,” he said, already preparing to leave.

Maxine didn’t ask for details and simply responded, “Drive safely.”

“Okay, I’ll return as quickly as I can.” Norton looked at Maxine, then pulled her in and gave her a deep, lingering kiss on the lips.
