Chapter 485
Comeback Of The Adored Heiress
Chapter 485:
Jada was at a complete loss for words, unsure of how to respond. After a brief pause, Maxine spoke deliberately. âJada, it seems like you canât come to terms with the fact that Norton has never been in love with you. But even though youâve always believed he had feelings for you, you never returned them. Instead, youâve been chasing after Andrew all this time. Were you just keeping Norton as a backup?â
âThatâs not true!â Jada snapped back instantly, denying it with all her might.
Norton, however, had already begun to pick up on the truth. His gaze slowly hardened, growing colder by the second, making Jada feel uneasy.
âDo you actually believe her, Norton?â Jadaâs eyes started to glisten with tears, her voice filled with disbelief.
Norton was caught in a swirl of emotions and uncertainty. âI honestly donât know what to think right now.â
Taking Maxineâs hand in his, Norton said quietly, âLetâs go, Maxine. Letâs get out of here.â
Maxine flashed a brief smile and turned to look at Jada. Hadnât Jada wanted to see her? Well, she was sure sheâd left a lasting impression now.
When Jada noticed the smirk on Maxineâs face, it hit herâMaxine mustâve planned this whole thing on purpose. The thought made Jada furious. How could someone as insignificant as Maxine, an actress, dare pull something like this? And to make things worse, Norton was clearly siding with Maxine.
Jada couldnât handle it. Her anger was boiling over. The intensity of resentment in Jadaâs gaze was unmistakable. Madisyn noticed this and narrowed her eyes in response.
The evening concluded on a sour note. As she headed back home, Madisyn messaged Maxine to caution her. She had been taken aback seeing Maxine tonight but quickly realized that Maxine had come with the intention of confronting Jada.
âYou really made Jada suffer tonight,â Madisyn said. âShe wonât just let this go. Be careful.â
Maxine replied, âMiss Madisyn, Iâm aware.â
Madisyn considered asking Maxine about her relationship with Norton but decided against prying into her personal matters and let it go.
The mood in the car with Maxine was palpably tense. Norton drove in silence, while Maxine occupied the passenger seat, absorbed in her phone and replying to messages.
Norton cast occasional glances at Maxine as he drove. Maxine was quietly waiting for Norton to break the silence.
At last, he spoke up. âMaxine, I think there might be some misunderstanding here. Jada is actually a good person.â
Given their shared past, it was only natural that Norton had a lot of fond memories with Jada. Jada had even been a significant help to him over the years. Although Jada seemed a bit strange, Norton couldnât just cut ties with her due to their long history together. He still held onto the hope that Jadaâs actions werenât intentional.
Maxineâs reaction was subdued; she merely nodded her head.
Norton watched her expression closely but couldnât read her feelings, leaving him feeling somewhat uneasy. Trying to make amends, he offered, âWould you like to stay over at my place tonight? I can drive you to work tomorrow.â
Maxine could tell he was trying to make her happy, which wasnât easy for someone of his noble stature. Given everything that had happened today, he must be the one who felt the worst. After a momentâs thought, she finally replied, âOkay.â
In his grand mansion, Norton thoughtfully arranged a bottle of champagne for them. They settled in front of a massive floor-to-ceiling window and enjoyed their drinks together. The earlier tension had melted away, replaced by a more relaxed and comfortable mood.
As she ran her fingers through her smooth, flowing hair, Nortonâs gaze was filled with admiration and affection.
Maxine turned to him and asked with genuine curiosity, âWhat is it about me that you like?â
âTake a guess,â he replied with a playful grin.
Maxine was at a loss, unable to come up with an answer. Norton was known for his playboy reputation in business circles, with rumors circulating about his numerous short-lived relationships. Initially, Maxine had been put off by his playboy image and felt repulsed by his advances, deliberately keeping her distance. She had assumed he would eventually give up, but to her surprise, he remained persistent.
Throughout this time, she faced numerous challenges, and Norton had been there to help her navigate and overcome them. Maxine found herself reassessing him, only to discover that the rumors were misleading and had unfairly tarnished his image. Contrary to the rumors, he was far from a playboy; he had very few female friends and dedicated most of his time to his work.
The rumors about him were actually spread by himself to mislead and throw off those with ulterior motives. The world of the wealthy was indeed full of complexity and intrigue.
Norton, with a smile and unmistakable affection in his eyes, said to Maxine, âIf you canât figure it out right now, donât rush it. Just take your time.â
Maxine rolled her eyes in mild exasperation. She found herself wondering if it was his unique charm that had captured Nortonâs interest.
Despite the situation, Maxine wasnât overly concerned. While they were together, she didnât view love as a make-or-break aspect of her life. With so many other responsibilities, particularly work, she was confident she could handle a breakup with composure if it ever came to that.
