The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call
Chapter 238 Cracking the Enigma Puzzle
ââ¦â Gary, still young and naive, was taken aback by Wynterâs words. His gaze began to wander as if it
were about to betray him.
Fanny immediately intervened, saying, âHeâs just trying to act tough. His healed yet, but he insisted on
coming out.â

Gary did indeed have a cold. His voice was hoarse as he said, âIâve missed you.â
âAlright, letâs all head inside,â Dickson said, smiling. âWeâll let Wynter try some of our homeâcooked
dishes.â The couple, cleverly synchronized, ushered Wynter into the house.
an
Inside, it was a multiâgenerational abode. Dickson introduced them one by one:
grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousinsâinâlaw.
Everyone else seemed quite ordinary, except for the young cousinâinâlaw, who was only a couple of
years older than Wynter. She appeared disheveled, holding a child in her arms with a vacant
expression.
Wynter called out to her cousinâinâlaw a couple of times before she finally snapped back to reality.
âOh, hello,â she greeted, her voice devoid of any rural accent.
Wynter glanced at the inside of her cousinâinâlawâs forearm and teasingly remarked, â Youâre not a
local, are you?â
âIâ¦â Yarra Raine looked at Wynter as if she wanted to say something.
Fanny nudged her from behind. âYarra, why are you standing here foolishly? The ribs are ready. Why
donât you go eat a few pieces?â The underlying threat in her words was evident.
Yarra immediately lowered her gaze. âRight, I want ribs. Gotta eat meat to grow tall,â she mumbled to
herself.
Wynter raised an eyebrow at the childish remarks. âMom, is there something off about her?â âSheâs got
some issues,â Fanny explained, pointing to her head. âShe nearly drowned once, and when she woke
up, she started telling everyone sheâs a college student from the city.â Wynter chuckled as she toyed
with the purple sugilite pendant around her waist. âThat does explain her foolishness.â
âItâs not just that,â Fanny continued. âWhen she sees strangers, she cowers and cries for help. She
scared away quite a few tourists previously. Did she frighten you too?â
Wynter glanced innocently at Fanny. âA little. Her messy hair was rather scary.â Upon

hearing this, Yarra slouched even further.
The Quirks had prepared a table full of dishes. Despite the lively atmosphere, Yarra never once lifted
her head.
Seated next to her, a 30âyearâold man gently coaxed, âDarling, try this dish.â Yarra acted like a puppet,
obediently doing as she was told.
Wynterâs gaze shifted toward them. Noticing this, Fanny leaned in to explain, âFinding someone for
Yarra isnât easy, but fortunately, Beny doesnât mind. Other than the age gap, everything else is fine.â
Just then, Dickson accidentally knocked over a dish while toasting, splattering Wynterâs T-
shirt.
Fanny stood up and scolded, âDear, how could you be so careless!â
Dicksonâs face flushed red as he stammered, âIâ¦.
âItâs alright, itâs just a shirt. Iâll change into something else,â Wynter said shyly. âSince Yarra is around
my age, could she help me watch the door?â
Wynter specifically asked for Yarra, prompting Fanny to frown instinctively. âWynter, youâ¦â
âIâm shy,â Wynter lowered her eyes and explained.
Wynterâs fair complexion, along with her long, dense eyelashes, exuded an innocent vibe that eased
Fannyâs doubts. She glanced at Dickson, who nodded in agreement, before saying, âYarra, go with
Wynter, but donât act strangely.â
Yarra shifted awkwardly, her expression somewhat blank. Wynter didnât attempt to hold her hand either.
The two walked away, one after the other.
As they vanished into the house, Gary trailed along, as was his custom, ensuring Yarra wouldnât
attempt to flee.
Fanny lowered her voice. âBeny, why did you let her come out?â

month. âDonât worry, Iâve got her under control. Dragged her back from town, and now sheâs clear that
running off wonât work. Sheâs given up and says she wants to settle down with meâ
Dickson chimed in with frustration, âBeny, I hate to say it, but Itâs been three years. How come you still
havenât sorted her out?â
âWell, being a university student, sheâs literate and harder to handle,â Beny chuckled. âBut hey,
Dickson, the girl you brought back this time is really goodâlooking! She seems well- behaved too.
Maybe 1-â
Fanny cut him off sharply. âDonât even think about it! The village head fancies her, and theyâre coming
over soon to check her out. Wipe that lecherous grin off your face!â
Fanny sneered, âThank goodness this girl is dimâwitted. Otherwise, with your lecherous look. Iâd have
to figure out a way to fool her!â
âAlright, letâs put an end to this discussion,â Dickson intervened. âKeep a close watch on the man Yarra
brought along. Make sure he doesnât come out.â
Benyâs anger flared at the mention of it. âHeâs just some brat who popped out of nowhere, daring to
meddle in our villageâs affairs. Itâs really getting on my nerves.â
Dickson frowned. âHeâs no ordinary fellow. Even with ten times the sedatives, he wouldnât go down. If it
werenât for the village headâs help, he mightâve snatched Yarra away! What then? The whole family
would be in trouble thanks to you!â
âHe didnât take her,â Beny snapped impatiently. âI checked. Theyâre not involved. Yarra just happened to
save someone and ran into this brat. Damn busybody!â
âRegardless, keep a close watch,â Dickson warned.
âHeâs locked in the cellar, with Biggie and Brownie on watch. He wonât get out,â Beny assured his
mother as he dished out more food. âMa, stop eating just potatoes, have some
meat.â
The family continued their meal unperturbed, seemingly accustomed to such occurrences. Through the
window, the Quirks appeared to be just another peaceful and warm family. But beneath the surface,
things were quite different.
Yarra wanted to follow Wynter inside the house, but Gary stood behind her, making sure she
