CHAPTER 1181
The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call
Chapter 1181 Lingering Feelings
Soup? Marie realized that Lucius was serious. She hesitated before speaking, âI have to go to the railway station to pick someone up later. Iâm afraid I wonât have time today.â
Upon hearing this, Lucius smiled faintly. âWhoâs so important?â
âMy daughter.â When Marie mentioned Wynter, her eyes softened in a way they rarely
did.
Lucius gazed at her for a while before speaking again, âYou really seem like a mother
now. Itâs hard to imagine.â
âThatâs because I AM a mother.â Marie laughed heartily, finding his comment rather
peculiar.
Lucius withdrew his gaze, his demeanor becoming more distant. âI didnât expect you to adapt so well to marriage and motherhood. Iâve just never pictured you being tied down by such trivial matters like this.â
Marie furrowed her brows. âMy daughter is not a trivial matter.â
She sounded somewhat displeased. No one truly understood what Wynterâs return
meant to her. Marie often felt a sense of indebtedness, not just to Wynter who was
abducted, but also to her sons.
Lucius looked at his fingers with a hint of mockery, though it wasnât clear what he
was mocking. âSo, your focus now is entirely on your family.â
âThatâs about right.â Marie felt that her old acquaintances seemed very concerned
about how she was doing now. They also liked to compare her past self with her
current self, and she suddenly felt a bit weary of it all.
Lucius spoke again, âIt seems weâre already from two different worlds, class
president.â
Marie paused upon hearing this tile again. Before she had the time to react, Lucius instructed the driver, âTake Ms. Whitman to Summergrove Mansion.â
Summergrove Mansion? The Whitmansâ old residence?
Marie looked up abruptly. âIâm not going there. Just drop me off at the subway
station ahead.â
âAre you not going home?â Luciusâ probing tone slipped out casually. âIs it because
of what happened before?
âI can help with the misunderstanding between you and the Whitman family. You
should at least go back and visit since youâre back.â
Marieâs eyes hardened with caution. âStop the car.â
Lucius furrowed his brows. âWhy?â
âTell your driver to stop the car.â
Marie indeed wanted to resolve the conflict with her family quickly, but she didnât want any external interference in the matter. This way, there would be less risk of harm coming to Wynter because of her own entanglement.
Luciusâ gaze darkened slightly. âI donât know which of my words offended you, but stopping the car now clearly isnât wise.
âI offered to help you. Why is that so hard for you to just accept it? Or are you worried about Shaneâs opinions?
âI have to say, class president, your emotional maturity seems to match your appearance. After all these years, it seems you havenât matured much. I still donât understand why you would say that Shane is your knight in shining armor.
âYour taste in men is truly lacking. Youâve been ill for so long, and itâs all related to him, isnât it? Now youâre rejecting help from others for his sake. Marie Whitman, you are truly beyond help.
âForget it, it has nothing to do with me,â Lucius spoke slowly. His tone was devoid of any emotion, as if stating a fact.
After speaking, Luciusâ/demeanor turned cold. He squeezed the water bottle before continuing, âListen to her. Stop the car.â
The driver immediately slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road.

However, he also realized that Lucius didnât actually want Marie to get out of the car.
