Wife 110
The Cherished Wife
Chapter 110
âWhat did you just say?â
âIâve made up my mind. I have to confront Robert. Heâs gone too far!â Charles tasted the coffee. He
did not like it and set it down with a frown. He glanced at Chloe and tapped his fingers. âSome
things are out of your control.
âCollosus Group has had its share of troublemakers these past few years. I get that youâve had
Robert by your side for a long time and donât want to shake things up, but that doesnât mean I owe
him any favors.â
Maxwell closed his eyes for a moment. âDo you really want to alienate the entire board? These folks
have been with me since they were kids. Some of them are like brothers to your dad and uncle. If
you go after them, it could really hurt Collosus Group.â
âIs Collosus Group doing so great now that we can afford to not act?â Charles challenged. âYou
shouldnât get involved. I know what Iâm doing!â He stood up to leave.
However, Chloe gently set down little Anna. âGo play with your uncle.â
Anna blinked her big eyes and scurried over on her tiny legs to hug Charlesâs leg again. âUncle, are
you going away?â
Charles narrowed his eyes and said, âYes. Itâs time for me to head home!â
âIsnât this your home, Uncle?â Anna asked, tapping her little head in confusion. However, her
sparkling eyes showed she was brighter than she seemed.
A shadow passed through Charlesâs deep, dark eyes, but he still lifted Anna into his arms. His
words, though, were meant for Chloe. âIâm only going to deal with Robert. I expect his resignation
letter by tomorrow. Iâll also be keeping the Colossus Group shares. Thatâs the biggest step back Iâll
take,â Charles declared. âHe has one more night to think it over. Iâm waiting for his good news.â
When Charles handed Anna back to Chloe, the little girl clung onto him, nearly in tears. âUncle, do
you not like me anymore?â
Chloeâs face fell, and she quickly took Anna from Charles. âAnna, be good. Uncleâs been working all
day, and heâs tired. If you miss him, you can visit another time, okay?â
Charles shot Chloe a look that said more than his words could, leaving her looking awkward.
Once Charles was gone, Maxwell let out a sigh. âChloe, itâs late. You should head back too. Anna
has
school tomorrow.â
âGrandpaâ¦â Chloeâs face went white. âIâ¦â
âWeâve never been able to stop Charles from doing what he wants to do. Donât worry. Heâs agreed,
so everything will be alright.â
Chloe bit her lip, clearly not happy, but she did not say more.
After Chloe left, Maxwell let out a hum and shot Mateo a sharp look. âYou did a great job with your
son,â he said, with a heavy dose of sarcasm.
Mateo just smiled. âDad, you were actually waiting for Charles to do something, right? Heâs
definitely braver than me,â Mateo admitted. âBut Chloe, sheâ¦â

Charles did not leave right after walking out of the Hoffman familyâs old house. He drove halfway up
the hill and stopped. Stepping out of the car, he leaned against the door and lit up a cigarette.
Soon, Chloeâs car pulled out of the residence too. She was surprised to see Charlesâs car parked on
the mountainside and told her driver to stop. Anna had cried herself to sleep earlier, so Chloe gently
put her down before stepping out of the car. âCharles!â
Charles gave Chloe a quick, detached glance. He flicked the halfâsmoked cigarette between his
long
fingers, his lips curving into a smile that did not quite reach his eyes. Bathed in the moonlight, his
face looked sharp and almost frigid. âOnly this time,â he said.
