Chapter 674
Bogus Billionaire
Adrian was reluctant to end the call, but he said, âAll right. Iâll hang up for now.â
Caroline hummed in assent before walking to the private room. After entering the private room, she put her phone on the table as the screen went off.
However, the eagleâeyed Yvonne caught sight of the name on the phone. Adrian Sorkin.
She remembered her first blind date with Adrian, and her gaze became a little cold. âDo you and Adrian still keep in touch?â
Caroline nodded. âYeah, we do. But we donât do it much.â
âDoes he usually contact you first, or do you contact him first?â
Caroline put down her spoon and said, âWell, I never kept track of that. Whatâs wrong? Why are you bringing this up?â
Yvonne smiled. âOh, itâs nothing.â
She had realized that she was the one who always took the initiative to contact Adrian, but Adrian had never done so for her.
In the past, she had thought Adrian didnât like reaching out to people. But now, it seemed that he simply didnât like her.
âAdrian seems to treat you very wellâ¦â Yvonne said, feigning a casual tone.
Caroline paused slightly at her words. âHe treats me fine. We are friends, after all.â
âIâm afraid he doesnât think so.â
Caroline wiped her hands calmly. âI may not be able to control other peopleâs thoughts, but I can keep myself in check. Iâm already married, and I love my husband very much. I wonât cheat on him.â
Yvonne rested her chin on her hand, smiling halfâheartedly at her words. It was a pity Adrian didnât think so. She gripped her spoon and looked at Caroline with some resentment.
However, Caroline didnât notice it and continued to eat.
After the meal, Caroline and Yvonne parted ways at the entrance. Caroline drove around the restaurant before stopping in front of the entrance again. She got out of the car and returned to the restaurant.
The restaurantâs manager was already waiting at the entrance. He handed a packaged cup to Caroline.
âMs Evans, hereâs the cup Ms. Yvonne had used earlier.â
Caroline took it over. âThank you.â
The manager wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, âOh, no need to thank me.â
âIâll be taking my leave.â
âAll right. Take care!â
The manager personally escorted Caroline out. It wasnât until Caroline drove away that the manager dropped his smile. He shouted toward the kitchen, âCome here, you!â
A waiter walked up to the manager fearfully. He stammered, âSâSir, I didnât mix up the cups on purpose. I was already clearing the dishes when you told me about this.â
âI didnât call you over to talk about that.â
The manager ordered, âIâm warning you. Nothing unusual happened just now, got it? You canât tell anyone you mixed up the cups, even if they try to kill you.
âIf anyone asks, you must tell them that Ms. Yvonne used that cup. Got it?â 1 The waiter nodded his head profusely at the managerâs order.
After Caroline left the restaurant, she went straight to the hospital Marietta was in. The doctor was already prepared for the DNA test when she arrived.
Caroline handed the cup over to the doctor with white gloves. Then, the doctor entered the laboratory. Marietta paced around nervously as she waited for the test results.
Seeing this, Caroline walked to her side and held her hand. âDonât worry, Mom. Iâm sure theyâll do their job well.â
âI hope so.â Marietta couldnât help but look over at the laboratory.
Fortunately, they didnât have to wait too long. About five minutes later, the doctor walked out and took off his mask.
He said to Marietta happily, âCongratulations, Ms. Weiss! Ms. Yvonne is indeed your daughter!â
