Chapter 664
Bogus Billionaire
As Caroline was lost in her thoughts, she vaguely saw a child sitting on a chair, craning her neck to look toward the door. They seemed to be in kindergarten.
âAre you stupid?â Marietta waved in front of Caroline, her voice bringing her out of her thoughts.
âHurry up and eat this.â When Marietta saw Caroline move, she felt relieved. She handed the stew she had brought to Caroline.
She said, âEat it while itâs still warm. Then, you can stay with me later.â
Caroline nodded and almost cried again, feeling the maternal love she had never felt in a long time.
Truth be told, she was a little envious of Mariettaâs daughter. She would have definitely received the best care if she had stayed with Marietta.
Caroline hoped that Mariettaâs daughter would return to her side soon.
After drinking the stew, Caroline felt a little stronger. Then, Marietta hailed a cab, and the two left the hospital together.
When they arrived at Mariettaâs place, the bed had already been made, so Caroline could go straight to bed.
âYou must have been really busy in the past few days. You should rest,â Marietta said.
She could tell that Caroline was very sleepy. Although she had many questions to ask Caroline, she couldnât bring herself to do it now.
Caroline nodded. âOkay, you should rest too, Mom. Thank you so much for your help.â
After they said good night, Marietta left Carolineâs room. As soon as she closed the door, she saw her assistant walking over, unable to hide her excitement.
She asked, âIs there any news about my daughter?â
âYes!â The assistant said, âJust now, the private detective called me and said that he is all but sure that Yvonne Hackett is your daughter.â
âYvonne â¦â Marietta said excitedly, âQuick. Show me a photo of her.â
The assistant already had a photo of Yvonne and gave it to Marietta.
Caroline had no choice but to tell the truth. âI got into an accident, but Iâve already taken care of things.
However, Kirk will definitely worry if I get home like this.â
A rustling voice came from the other end of the line. âWhere are you now? Iâm coming to get you.â
Caroline said, âYou donât have to do that.â
âNo way!â Marietta said sternly, âIâm your mother. I canât leave you alone when something has happened to you!â
Hearing her words, Caroline felt a warmth in her chest. âItâs really okay, Mom. Iâll take a taxi there.
Okay?â
âNo!â Mariettaâs tone left no room for negotiation. âTell me where you are right now.â
Caroline held her forehead. She didnât expect to have another person who cared more about her than the one who had just passed away. She felt both privileged and burdened.
Feeling resigned, Caroline had no choice but to wait for Marietta at the hospital entrance. About half an hour later, she saw Marietta approaching her with haste.
When she saw her, she somehow felt a familiar feeling in her chest.
