Chapter 634
Bogus Billionaire
âOkay. Letâs meet at Mayflower Square then?â asked Caroline.
âAlright,â Sean replied. âIâll head there right away.â
Now that Sean had agreed to it, Caroline got ready to head out.
Edith noticed this and asked, âMadam, where are you going?â
âShopping.â
âWhere?â
The question made Caroline frown a little. âMayflower Square. Whatâs the matter?â
âItâs nothing,â said Edith.
âI just wanted to know if I could tag along.â
The suspicion in Carolineâs eyes vanished upon hearing that. âWhere do you want to go? I can take you along with me.â
âNever mind. Weâre not headed in the same direction,â Edith said.
âIâll take the bus there.â
âOkay then. Take care. Iâm leaving.â
âYou too, madam.â After seeing Caroline off, Edith hurried to message Kirk and inform him of Carolineâs whereabouts.
After Caroline picked up Gwen, they both headed straight to Mayflower Square. On the way, though, they got stuck in a traffic jam.
âYou must be kidding me!â Gwen exclaimed as she poked her head out of the window.
âItâs not even the peak hour yet. Why is there a jam?â
The owner of the car next to theirs also poked his head out of the window. He heard what Gwen had said and said, âApparently thereâs an accident up ahead. Iâm not sure if itâs true, though.â
After getting an answer, Gwen sat back down in her seat and told Caroline, âThe line is too long.
We canât get to the mall anytime soon. Should we take another path?â
Caroline then launched a navigation platform on her phone to change routes. âWeâll have to take a detour then â
âWill do Otherwise, all we can do is waitâ
âOkayâ
Caroline accepted the idea and said, âYou should call Sean and tell him that weâre going to be late.
Heâs probably already there.â
Gwen wanted to protest but noticed that Caroline was already putting the car in reverse. In the end, she relented and dialed Seanâs number.
It didnât take long for her call to be answered. Sean couldnât hide the exuberance in his voice when he spoke âWhere are you two?â
âWeâre still on our way.â Gwen tried her best to calm down her racing heart as she spoke.
âThereâs a terrible jam here, so weâre taking another route there. Itâll take us about an hour or so to reach Mayflower Square.
âNo worries,â Sean said.
âIâll wait.â His tone was gentle, and there wasnât the slightest hint of annoyance in it.
âI never asked you to âGwen murmured to herself and hung up to see a smiling Caroline.
âGwen, I had never realized that youâre this stubborn.â
âI-â Gwen started. She wanted to explain herself, but to no avail. In the end, she chose to change the topic.
âWhereâs Kirk?â she asked, Kirk knew fairly well that Carolineâs mood wasnât the best these days, yet he had gone on a business trip and left her alone.
Gwen thought what he did was nothing but mean. Before this, she had even thought that he was a thoughtful person.
âDidnât I tell you that he went on a business trip?â said Caroline.
âWhatâs so important that he has to leave at such a time?â Gwen seethed.
Amused, Caroline laughed. She thought that the business trip came just in time, though. Kirk had He had stayed with her at home for those two days. She wasnât so bold as to claim that she had fully recovered from that incident.
But it would have started to weigh on her heart if Kirk had continued accompanying her. She would have started thinking of herself as trash.
A couple of minutes later, Caroline turned a fork in the road, and they chatted away.
All of a sudden, Gwenâs eyes turned as wide as saucers as she saw Kirk walking out of a building.
