Chapter 629
Bogus Billionaire
Seeing this, Kirk took some tissues to wipe Carolineâs tears. As he did, he coaxed, âWhy are you crying, my dear little crybaby?â
Carolineâs eyes were still red, but she retorted, âIâm not crying. I just got dust in my eye.â
Kirk looked around the room. âAll right, whatever you say. But darling, can you finish the spaghetti arrabbiata I made?â
Caroline smiled tearfully at his words, biting her lip. âOkay.â
After their dinner, Kirk and Caroline watched TV downstairs. No one talked during this time. At 11:
00 pm, Caroline got up and went upstairs.
After a moment, she said to Kirk, âKirk â¦â
âYeah?â
âIâll always be with you, no matter how difficult things become.â Although there was nothing usual about her words, she seemed to be making an oath.
Kirk looked at her gently. Her reassuring words immediately put him at ease. âOkay, you should get some rest.â
Caroline nodded and went upstairs to rest.
When the door closed, Kirk immediately dropped his smile. He took out his phone and dialed Eddyâs number.
Eddy quickly answered the phone. âWhatâs the matter, Uncle Kirk?â
âWhere are you?â
âIâm at Grandpaâs place.â In a few days, Eddy had been arranging Judeâs funeral. He had suddenly felt an emptiness in his chest, so he had gone to Morrison Manor, trying to find some comfort.
Kirk asked coldly, âDid Uncle Jude say anything to Caroline before he passed?â
âNo.â Eddy was confused.
âHe just told us that his biggest regret was that he didnât get to see me and Caroline together. Why are you asking, Uncle Kirk?â
Kirk was shaken. He finally understood the reason for Carolineâs strange behavior tonight. What she wanted to talk about wasnât his true identity, but rather Judeâs last words.
âWhere did you say you were?â Kirk asked, gritting his teeth.
âAt Morrison Manor. Uncle Kirk, whatâs wrong?â Eddy asked, thinking Kirk was acting strange.
âWait for me there. Iâll go see you now.â
After he said that, Kirk strode out of the villa. However, after a few steps, he seemed to have thought of something. He turned back, went up to the second floor, and opened the door to his bedroom.
Caroline was wiping her hair dry when she heard the door opening. She turned back to Kirk and smiled. She asked, âAre you going to bed too?â
âThe office called just now and said they needed me for something. So I wonât be home tonight.â
Caroline put her towel down. âIt isnât a big problem, right?â
âI donât think so. Iâll be leaving now. You should rest early, and donât worry about me.â
âOkay.â
Caroline saw Kirk off. She waited until he drove away before closing the door. However, she still felt very uneasy.
Ever since Kirk had promised he wouldnât go out at night anymore, he rarely left the house late.
Even if it was something workârelated, he would blow it off.
But since he was going out so late now, the issue probably wasnât a simple one.
Caroline felt restless at the thought. She couldnât sleep at all.
