Kirk nodded slightly at Marietta’s offer. Both of them were silent, not knowing what to say.

After 2 inoment, Kirk said, “I’m going out for now.”

“Okay.” Marietta nodded and continued washing the fruits.

After Kirk left, she looked up again. She guessed he was the one who was most upset about this.

Having known him for years, she knew how much of a workaholic he was. But now, he was staying at home just to care for Caroline.

Marietta hoped that Caroline would overcome her demons soon. Then, she walked out of the kitchen with the fruits. Everyone chatted with Caroline for a while before she kicked them out.

When they left, Cheryl’s eyes immediately turned red. She whispered in the car, “It seems Caroline has lost weight. It’s only been a few days since we’ve seen her …”

Gwen and Marietta remained silent. Everyone was in low spirits as they made their way home.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the villa wasn’t much better. Kirk glanced at Caroline, who was lost in thought again and stepped forward.

“What would you like to eat, darling? I’ll make something for you.”

However, Caroline only returned to her senses after Kirk had called her twice. “What did you say?”

Kirk frowned and repeated his words.

Caroline shook her head and opened her hands toward Kirk. “I want a hug.”

Kirk smiled helplessly and stretched out his arms to hug Caroline. She immediately buried her head in his chest. Just like that, the two of them hugged each other quietly, letting time pass by slowly.

After a long time, Caroline said softly, “Kirk, there’s something I’ve wanted to tell you, but I didn’t know how to say it.”

Kirk’s heart stopped. He asked, “What is it?”

Caroline remained silent at his words. After a while, she changed her mind. “Forget it. I’d better not talk about it for now.”

+15 BONUS Kirk was shaken. He finally understood the reason for Caroline’s strange behavior tonight.

What she wanted to talk about wasn’t his true identity, but rather Jude’s last words.

“Where did you say you were?” Kirk asked, gritting his teeth.

“At Morrison Manor. Uncle Kirk, what’s wrong?” Eddy asked, thinking Kirk was acting strange.

“Wait for me there. I’ll go see you now.”

After he said that, Kirk strode out of the villa. However, after a few steps, he seemed to have thought of something. He turned back, went up to the second floor, and opened the door to his bedroom.

Caroline was wiping her hair dry when she heard the door opening. She turned back to Kirk and smiled. She asked, “Are you going to bed too?”

“The office called just now and said they needed me for something. So I won’t be home tonight.”

Caroline put her towel down. “It isn’t a big problem, right?”

“I don’t think so. I’ll be leaving now. You should rest early, and don’t worry about me.”

“Okay.”

Caroline saw Kirk off. She waited until he drove away before closing the door. However, she still felt very uneasy.

Ever since Kirk had promised he wouldn’t go out at night anymore, he rarely left the house late. Even if it was something work–related, he would blow it off.

But since he was going out so late now, the issue probably wasn’t a simple one.

Caroline felt restless at the thought. She couldn’t sleep at all.
