Chapter 584
Bogus Billionaire
Caroline hooked her arms around Kirkâs waist. âDonât worry. Iâll always come back. I would come back home even if it rained daggers.â
Kirk loosened his arms around her slightly. Staring at her dazzling eyes, he smiled back at her and said, âLetâs go back in.â
âOkay,â she replied, letting him carry her into the house.
âKirk.â
âYeah?â
âDo you remember things that happened when you were young?â
After placing her down on a chair, Kirk knelt and helped her take off her shoes.
âWhen I was young?â
He glanced up at her. âHow young?â
âWhen you were about five years old.â
âYes, I do.â
Carolineâs eyes lit up at his words. âWhat were you doing at that time?â
Remembering how he started following his father around to run business errands, Kirk couldnât help but laugh.
âNothing special. I went to kindergarten and played with my friends. Sometimes, I would play with my father too.â
Propping up her chin in her arm, Caroline said, âIâm so jealous of you⦠I canât remember what happened when I was that age.
âDonât you find it strange that I can only remember the things that I did when I was seven or eight years old but not when I was five years old?â
âItâs likeâ¦â
She continued, âItâs like someone sliced through my memories and took away all the ones that I Kirk gently massaged her head as he listened to her speak.
âMaybe itâs because your brain was too tiny when you were small, so you couldnât remember anything that happened before that.â
Smiling, Caroline hooked her arms around his neck. âWill you forget me when you turn old and your brain becomes tiny?â
âNope.â Kirk carried her in his arms once again and headed to the bedroom.
âHow are you so sure about that? There are lots of elderly people who get Alzheimerâs these days.
What if-â
âThereâs no âwhat ifâ.â Kirk pressed his lips against hers, his breath fanning her cheeks.
âBecause my heart remembers you. It has nothing to do with my brain.â
Caroline blinked at his words. They were like a feather that was gently and softly caressing her heart.
She then hooked one leg around his waist. âReally?â
âYes. Come into my heart if you donât believe me.â
Caroline blushed. âNonsense!â
Despite that, her hand moved along with Kirkâs to lift up his shirt.
When her hand was on his chest, where his heart was, he chuckled and leaned over to bite her lips gently. âCan you see it now?â
Caroline blushed further, her fingers trembling slightly where she was touching him. âNo,â she said.
âWell, then, you have to be more serious.â His voice was gruff, and his Adamâs apple moved in time with his speech.
Her eyes gradually lost focus, as if she were a fish breaking through the surface of the water.
The warmth she felt made her feel like she was water vaporizing into steam, yet she yearned for it.
What ensued from the feeling was a time of endless pleasure.
When she cooled down much later, she sprawled on the bed, unwilling to move a single muscle. She could feel that her throat was hoarse by now.
âWaterâ¦â She groaned, and Kirk got up to get her some water.
Just then, her phone, which was at the edge of the bed, started to ring.
She glanced at the screen to see that the caller was Marietta. Hastily, she answered the call.
Mariettaâs excited voice came from the other end of the line. âCarrie, youâre truly my lucky mascot! I just got a call from the detective. He had news about my daughter!â
