Chapter 570
Bogus Billionaire
âDâDidnât you promise you wonât interfere with my affairs anymore?â
Gwen looked up at him and asked with a smile, âThen, why did you ⦠after I fainted â¦â
Sean smiled gracefully. He explained, âAlthough Iâve given up on pursuing you, weâre still friends, right?
Of course, Iâll lend a helping hand to a friend in trouble.â
âSo⦠weâll be friends from now onâ¦â Gwen said slowly, looking into Seanâs eyes.
Sean turned away. âYeah.â
Gwen smiled and said, âYeah, thatâs a good idea. I think weâll last longer as friends than lovers.â
âI think so, too,â Sean agreed, looking out the window.
Gwen smiled. âThen, are we going back or â
âThat depends on Caroline.â Sean looked at Caroline, who had finished her phone call.
After getting into the car, Caroline said to them, âKirk will pick me up in a moment. Which one of you can help me drive the car back?â
Sean and Gwen looked at each other, then quickly looked away again.
âIâll do it. I was the one who caused all this,â Gwen said.
âI canât believe you still want to drive after drinking so much.â
Caroline quipped, âMaybe you should go to the hospital to check on your brain.â
Gwen was speechless at her words.
âThen, Iâm the only one who can do it,â Sean said.
Caroline glanced at Gwen. âWhat about you, Gwen? How are you going home? Why donât we give you a ride?â
âNo thanks. I donât want to be a third wheel for you two.â
Gwen laid on the back of the chair. She said, âI can just take a cab later.â
âItâs a bad idea to hail a cab at this place.â
âIâll take her home on the way,â Sean said.
A sly smile appeared on Carolineâs face. She said, âOkay. Iâll be relieved if you take her home.â
Gwen looked over at Caroline suspiciously. She had a feeling that Caroline had done this on purpose, but she didnât have any proof.
Ten minutes later, Kirk arrived. Caroline got out of the car and waved to the two of them. âIâll be going now. Send me a message when you arrive home safely.â
âOkay.â Gwen leaned on the car window and waved Caroline goodbye.
After Caroline got into Kirkâs car, Gwen put down her hand and asked, âIs Carol trying to set the both of us up?â
Sean grabbed the keys. He chuckled. âProbably.â
Gwen laughed as well. âWill she be upset if she finds out we wonât do as she wishes?â
Sean said, âProbably?â
Gwen laughed again. She was smiling, but there were tears in her eyes. Fortunately, Sean had already started the car in the front seat, so he didnât notice her crying.
Gwen rested her head on the front seat and let the tears flow down the back of her hands. In fact, she didnât really know why she was crying.
Sean said they could be friends, which was what she obviously wanted. However, she wasnât as happy as she had imagined.
Instead, she felt as if she had lost something important to her. She felt a piece of her heart being ripped out. It hurt so much that she couldnât breathe.
Half an hour later, the car arrived at Gwenâs house. She stumbled out of the car.
Seeing this, Sean frowned and got out of the car to support her. âIâll take you upstairs.â
âNo, itâs fine. I can walk by myself.â Gwenâs mind was awake, but her movements were a mess.
After taking a few steps, she couldnât tell the difference between her left and right feet anymore.
However, she still wasnât aware of it.
After taking a few more steps, she turned to Sean and boasted, âSee? I told you I could walk!â
Sean smiled, but the next second, a trace of worry appeared in his eyes. âBe carefu-â
Before he could finish speaking, Gwen felt her body swaying uncontrollably. The weightlessness made her even more frantic.
