Chapter 560
Bogus Billionaire
Gwen continued, âAfter all, he isnât Eddyâs second uncle. Am I right, Carol?â
After hearing her words, Caroline stopped trying to get out of bed. But soon, she felt uneasy and tried to get up again. Fortunately, at this moment, there was a knock on the door.
Gwen said happily, âSee? I told you he would be back soon.â
Then, she yelled at the door, âQuit knocking and come in here. Carol is eager to see you.â
Eddy, who opened the door and entered, was stunned when he heard Gwenâs words. He glanced at Caroline, his cheeks strangely beginning to turn warm.
When the three women saw Eddy come in, their expressions shifted.
âWhy is it you?â Gwen asked, dumbfounded.
But Eddy didnât hear Gwen at all.
He kept his eyes on Caroline. He probably hadnât seen Caroline for a long time. He felt his emotions swell when he saw her today.
Despite being unwell, Caroline didnât come off as weak at all. Instead, she looked beautiful, even when she was sick.
She looked gentle and delicate, quickly arousing Eddyâs protective instincts.
âI heard Janeâs people tried to kill you. Whatâs going on?â Eddy asked. He couldnât resist walking over to Carolineâs side.
Caroline frowned. She didnât want to talk to Eddy. After all, this had happened because of the Morrisons.
Gwen looked at Caroline, then Eddy, and scoffed. âCanât you see that Carol doesnât want to see you, Mr. Eddy?â
Once more, Eddy didnât seem to hear Gwenâs words. He raised his head and asked Gwen and Sonia, âCan you both go out for a while? I want to talk to Caroline in private.â
Gwen was about to refuse, but Caroline interrupted, âGwen, Sonia, you both still have work, so you should go. Iâll be fine here.â
Caroline was mainly worried about Sonia. Sonia was a big star and was busy with tons of work. It would be bad if her work got delayed because she had to visit her.
Gwen said reluctantly, âCarol â¦â
Caroline gave her a reassuring look, then looked at Sonia. âSonia, take Gwen away.â
Sonia did as she was told. âOkay, Caroline.â
After the two women left, Caroline closed her eyes indifferently.
Ever since she had found out that Eddyâs second uncle had asked Kirk to register the marriage on his behalf, her impression of the Morrisons had worsened.
All of them seemed to think they could do whatever they wanted because of their wealth.
She spat, âQuickly say whatever you want and leave.â
Eddy felt very uncomfortable seeing Carolineâs indifference. âYou never treated me like this back then.â
He regretted those words as soon as he said them. He wanted to take it back, but it was too late.
Caroline slowly opened her eyes and sneered at him. âThatâs because you were my future partner back then, so I treated you like one. I cared for you and respected you.
âBut now, youâre just a stranger to me. Iâm free to treat you however I want.â
Eddyâs heart dropped at her words. He asked, âAre you still playing hardâtoâget at a time like this?â
His words amused Caroline. She looked at Eddy and said bluntly, âEddy, why wonât you accept that I no longer have feelings for you?
âDonât tell me you canât bear to see me leave you. Is that why you keep deceiving yourself and telling yourself Iâm playing hardâtoâget?â
Her words cut into the depths of Eddyâs heart like a knife. The pain revealed his true feelings.
He stood there, trembling, as he looked at Caroline miserably.
