Chapter 550
Bogus Billionaire
After all, Jude was Kirkâs uncle. How could Kirk lie to him?
âGrandpa,â Eddy reminded again lowly.
Thomas quickly said to Howard, âMr. Collins, whereâs your wife? Why hasnât she come downstairs yet? Kirkâs here already, too. Does she want everyone to wait for her?â
Howard chuckled and said, âHardly. Iâll have someone call her down right now.â
As he said this, he waved one of the employees over. âHurry up and ask the madam to come downstairs.â
The employee rushed upstairs.
However, many minutes later, Jane still didnât show up.
Howard frowned and quietly had someone go upstairs to rush her.
Then, he said to the crowd, âEveryone, please take a seat. Women are quite difficult, always having to put on makeup, change, and all that. Iâm sorry for making you all wait.â
The attendees smiled in understanding and went to take their assigned seats.
Throughout this time, Kirk remained expressionless.
Damien used this golden opportunity to raise a glass to Kirk.
He said, âMr. Kirk, thank you for all your help and taking Adrian with you to make so much money. Heâs even managed to make some headway into foreign markets successfully.â
He continued, âThese past few years, Sorkin Group has tried to expand outward, but we never managed. I really must thank you tonight.â
Kirk raised his wine glass and said blandly, âYou should thank Adrian if you want to thank someone.â
Damien didnât understand. He looked at Anthony beside him. However, Anthony was perplexed as well.
âMr. Kirk, what do you mean?â
âHe has a good eye,â Kirk answered.
After all, Adrian had been interested in Caroline. That was why Kirk had to think up a way to keep him overseas.
However, Damien misunderstood Kirkâs meaning. He thought that Kirk was praising Adrian for having a keen eye for business.
âMr. Kirk, youâre too kind. That child had always caused such trouble growing up. Weâ¦â
Seeing how indifferent Kirk seemed and how totally uninterested he was in chatting, Damien didnât know what to say.
After all, he was head of the Sorkin family, the secondâmost elite family in Easton. Yet he was at a loss.
In the past, he had made others speechless. But before Kirk, he was cowering when faced with the way Kirk held himself, even if he kept telling himself that Kirk was younger than him.
The living room fell into a chilly silence. Nobody dared to speak.
In the end, Eddy walked up and said, âUncle Kirk, what have you been working on lately? Itâs been so long since I last saw you.â
Kirkâs gaze fell on Howard. âIâve been busy doing business with Mr. Collins.â
Howard was overjoyed at being mentioned. âYouâre being too kind, Mr. Kirk. Itâs all because of your help that we managed to work together.
âCollins Group should be thanking you for all youâve done to nurture us. Iâm sure that weâll grow even bigger soon.â
âNaturally. With Mr. Kirk leading the way, youâll definitely get richer,â Aiden said admiringly.
âWe have no such luck.â
âThatâs right.â Damien took Aidenâs lead and started bootlicking.
âWith Mr. Kirk around, the Collins family will be surpassing us soon.â
Howard smiled, pleased. He faked humility and said, âHow can that be?â
In truth, he was so happy that he might as well have been a dog wagging its tail.
