Chapter 538
Bogus Billionaire
âA million dollars.â Caroline tossed him a smile.
Liam was at a loss for words.
Thankfully, the waiter entered the room to serve the food. It helped to ease the tension so that things wouldnât turn awkward.
After the waiter left, hatred flashed across Liamâs eyes, and he pointed at the dishes on the table.â Letâs enjoy ourselves first. Weâll talk about it later.â
Picking up the cutlery, Caroline gestured for Jack to come over, and the three of them had their meals together. The atmosphere was rather pleasant, even though they rarely spoke when they ate.
Î After half an hour, they were full. The waiter came into the room once again to clear the table and serve them dessert.
Seeing how Liam kept on checking the time, Caroline asked, âAre you in a rush to go somewhere?â
âHuh? No.â
âThen why are you checking the time so frequently?â
âI wanted to see if it was time.â
âTime for what?â
Raising his eyes to look at Caroline, Liam smiled at her and said, âItâs nothing. Youâll know what it is soon. Letâs continue our talk from just now, shall we?â
unsettling, and it gave her an ominous feeling.
She glanced at Jack, who stared back at her with alarmed eyes. He had the same premonition as her.
âWeâll talk about it some other time,â said Caroline, standing up.
All of a sudden, a wave of dizziness washed over her. She even had to hold on to the table for support.
âWhat was in the food?â She raised her eyes at Liam, glowering.
Liam simply laughed. âIsnât it a bit too late for you to notice it?â
Carolineâs expression changed. Hastily, she turned to look at Jack, who swayed, obviously drugged, just like her.
Alarm bells started ringing in her head. She quickly pinched her arm, and the pain cleared her head a little.
Grabbing Jackâs arm, she dashed for the door but was stopped in her tracks when she saw two brawny men blocking their path.
