Chapter 535
Bogus Billionaire
It didnât take long for Liam to message Caroline about the time and place of their meeting.
She searched the location online and found that it was a simple coffee shop in the northern suburbs However, he wanted them to meet at 9 am the next day. It seemed as though he was in a rush for them to meet.
She and her employees would have to prepare the contract by tomorrow morning. Apparently, they would have to work overtime.
Caroline pressed a button on her desk and asked Cheryl to come over to her office. A moment later, Cheryl arrived.
âCheryl, tell the legal department that they will have to work overtime. We must get the contract done by 9 am tomorrow.â
âIs it that urgent?â
âYes. Sloanâs father called me and said that he wanted to meet me at 9 am to discuss it tomorrow.
We should prepare the contract beforehand so that weâre prepared in case anything pops up.â
âAlright then. Iâll tell them about this right away,â said Cheryl as she turned to leave.
Just then, Caroline stood up and stopped Cheryl in her tracks.
âNever mind. Iâll tell them about it myself. We can save time if I speak to them in person.â She then headed straight for the legal department.
Cheryl shook her head helplessly as she watched Caroline leave in a hurry. Caroline never seemed to have time for herself.
She had only just gotten on good terms with her husband, yet she was burying herself under the mountain of work again.
The discussion between Caroline and the legal team ended only at around 3 pm. It seemed as though they were done with the contract now.
After flipping through the papers to make sure that there were no mistakes, Caroline stretched.
She said âThank you for your hard work, everyone. You donât have to come to work for the next two days. All of you should have a good restâ
âThank youâ the employees replied in unison. Their spints had been lifted now that they had the following two days to themselves.
Caroline smiled and saw them off. Afterward, she picked up the contract and headed back to her office When she pushed through the doors of the office, she saw Kik sitting on a chair Stunned, she stood rooted to the spot.
At the sound of someone entering the room, Kirk raised his head to see who it was. Seeing that it was Caroline, he spread his arms in an attempt to hug her As if on instinct, Caroline walked toward him. He pulled her into his arms âAre you done with work?â His voice was strained, as if he had waited for her for a long time âWhen did you arrive?â asked Caroline Sitting on his lap right now made her teel warm and fuzzy inside somehow.
âAround 9 am.â
âWhy didnât you call me?â she asked in surprise âI did, but you didnât answer.â
Kirk carried her to the couch and sat. He shut his eyes and told het. âYou must be tired Quick, take a nap.â
Glancing up at him, Caroline saw that his eyes were closed already. The soft light from behind him made him appear all the more gentle and energetic.
In truth, Caroline had felt kind of worn out just now. Now, though, she wasnât tired in the least Getting up from the couch, she stared at Kirk, who sat on the ground. His eyelids drooped so much that it was cleat he was going to doze off soon.
âGet up. Go back home and go to sleep.â
âNo. You should sleep. Donât you have a contract to settle by tomorrow?â he mumbled Caroline glanced at the clock on the wall and said, âI still have a couple of hours to get it done. Hurry and get up. The floorâs cold.â
Then, Kirk opened his eyes to look at her. âDarling, thereâs something I would like to do if you donât want to sleep.â
Flabbergasted, Caroline didnât know how to respond. A moment later, she simply told him, âCome up here to sleep then.â
Instead of listening to her, Kirk rested his chin against the couch. With his eyes halfâclosed, he murmured, âGo to sleep.â Soon, he was fast asleep.
His soft snores made Caroline drowsy too, and she soon fell asleep.
When she woke up the next morning, it was already 7 am.
She glanced sideways, expecting to see Kirk, but he was nowhere to be seen.
A wave of panic washed over her, and she raised her head to look around the office. However, she calmed down at the sight of a container of mushroom soup and slices of baguette on her desk.
Standing up from the couch, she walked over to her desk and placed a hand over the food to find that it was still hot.
