Chapter 533
Bogus Billionaire
Kirk got a call from Charles not long after Caroline left. Howard had come to the company to see Kirk.
Kirkâs gaze darkened when he remembered the information he had received from the investigation yesterday.
It turned out that Jane had ordered those scumbags to rob Caroline. What was more, Jane and Daphne had been working together to cause Caroline a lot of trouble recently.
Those two women had violated the agreement he made with Howard.
âIâm heading over now,â said Kirk.
âOkay.â Charles hung up and went to the reception area after getting confirmation from Kirk.
âMr. Collins, heâll be here shortly.â
Howard couldnât hide the smile on his face. âAlright. Iâll be waiting right here.â
Charles nodded and left the room.
About half an hour later, Kirk arrived at the company and strode into the reception area.
He narrowed his eyes at the sight of Howard. He was about to speak when Howard, oblivious to the danger that was to come, handed him a letter of invitation.
âMr. Kirk, my wifeâs celebrating her birthday the day after tomorrow. Iâm here today to invite you. I hope that youâll spare some time to attend her birthday party.â
âBirthday?â Kirk glanced at the invitation letter before him and fell silent.
A moment later, he took the letter and scanned through its contents.
Abruptly, he smiled and said, âSo your wifeâs birthday is on the day after tomorrow?â
âYes.â Howard looked eager. He was still very much unaware of the change in Kirkâs attitude.
âYouâll make time for it, right?â
âCertainly.â
Kirk tossed the letter onto his desk and added, âIâll prepare a huge gift for her, too.â
Howard couldnât stop himself from beaming when he heard that.
âThatâs not necessary. Itâs our honor to have you attend the birthday banquet.â
Kirk smirked. âI have one condition, though. There canât be any reporters or journalists at the banquet.â
âDonât worry. I know that youâre very lowâkey and that you donât want others to see your face. Iâll get rid of every single reporter within a tenâmile radius on the day of the banquet.â
Howard continued, âIâll ask all the other clans that will be present to watch their words too.â
Kirk put his legs on the table. âOkay. You may leave now.â
âOkay,â Howard replied, satisfied that he had achieved his goal.
After watching him leave, Charles stopped behind Kirk and asked, âSir, about the car accident â¦
âArenât you afraid that the person behind it will take action again if you expose yourself now? We havenât found out who that person is.â
âWeâve looked into this for so long yet failed to get any bit of information. It could only mean that the person behind this has backup. They wonât take action again if I donât reveal my identity.â
âAre you making yourself the bait, then?â
Kirk hummed in response.
âBut what about the madam?â
âIf she finds out, weâll just tell her that Iâm Eddyâs second uncleâs representative,â said Kirk.
âAfter all, the only ones in Easton who know what I truly look like are those in the Morrison family.
Charles smiled. âPretending to be someone else when that person is yourself⦠Itâs an excellent idea!â
Suddenly, Kirkâs expression darkened. âIt wouldnât take up much time, anyway.â
âWhy?â Charles asked, confused.
âBecause Iâll leave the Morrisons behind very soon.â
Charles was still puzzled, but Kirk didnât care to explain further. He simply picked up the invitation letter on his desk and stared at it, his gaze dark and intimidating.
When Caroline arrived at the office, Cheryl looked like she was about to explode if she couldnât get a piece cà gossip out of her, âCaroline, why are you so late?â
Caroline usually arrived way earlier than all of her employees. She lowered her head at Cherylâs question as a blush crept up her cheeks.
âHuh? Why are you blushing?â Cheryl looked as though she had just discovered a prehistoric fossil.
âTell me, have you and your husband reconciled?â
âDonât be a busybody,â Caroline retorted.
