Chapter 491
Bogus Billionaire
When it was almost afternoon, Carolineâs expression finally eased a little. However, she still didnât have much of an appetite and refused to eat anything.
Sonia was really afraid that Caroline would lose herself if she went on like this.
However, when she saw that Caroline could still answer a call from Cheryl and give clear and logical suggestions, Sonia knew that she was someone who would never be defeated.
Besides, when she worked, Caroline was like a whole other person. She was driven and energetic.
No one could even tell that her heart was in agony.
Yet, once Caroline put down her phone, it was like all the energy had been drained from her. She collapsed into bed weakly.
Seeing this, Sonia suddenly got an idea. She took out her script and showed it to Caroline.
As expected, Caroline transformed into another person when she held the script. She concentrated on it wholeheartedly, immersing herself in the world within the script.
Sonia didnât disturb Caroline when she saw her so focused. Instead, she snuck into the living room to send her manager a message.
Helena called immediately. âThank God you finally texted me back.
âWhere are you now? Hurry back to the company.â
âIs something going on?â
âThe company is planning to let you take on a new script. They want you to film a similar show so you can ride the wave of success from the webseries.â
Sonia frowned. âHelena, didnât I tell you before? I wonât film anything thatâs similar to something Iâve acted in before. It will limit the kind of characters I get to play.â
Helena replied, âSonia, I know what youâre thinking. You want to secure the lead female role for Marietta Weissâ play, âDaughter of the Seaâ. But Iâm telling you now to give up on it.â
âWhy?â Sonia felt very displeased to have her capabilities ignored.
âI used to be in theater. I can handle being in a play.â
âSonia, Iâm your manager. How could I not know that you used to be in theater? But I just got the news,â Helena said a little impatiently.
âDaphne Dawson is interested in this role.â
âHow ⦠could she be interested in this role?â Sonia was perplexed.
Daphne had always been in TV shows and wasnât suited to act in a play. If she acted in one, the character would be ruined by her performance.
At the thought of such a wellârounded character being ruined, Sonia felt her heart ache.
Helena answered, âHow else? Although she managed to push all the blame on the Evanson Corporationâs boss after her stint as their ambassador, people still found out she couldnât act.
âLots of people are unhappy with her. Plus, sheâs the wife of Mr. Eddyâs second uncle. No one will be pleased if she doesnât have something to her name.
âThatâs why I think she wants to get the leading role in Marietta Weissâ âDaughter of the Seaâ. This way, sheâll have proof that Ms. Weiss acknowledges her talents.
âHer husband invested in this play, so the role is hers without question. Thereâs no reason to try, Sonia.
Itâs a waste of time.â
Sonia was happy when she ended the phone call. Upset, she went back to the bedroom.
Caroline had just finished reading the script. She looked up to find a disappointedâlooking Sonia.
Whatâs wrong?â
At being found out, Sonia felt her throat turn scratchy. She said weakly, âNothing.â
She forced a smile as she looked at Caroline. âCaroline, do you think the script is good?â
Although Caroline wasnât a professional critic, she had been brought up well by the Evans family.
Thus, she had a wellârounded education and was very wellâread. She was sure that she could make a few comments.
âI think this script is pretty good. But thereâs some emotional bits that werenât handled very well.â
Soniaâs eyes widened as she looked at Caroline. âCâCaroline, do you know who wrote this?â
Caroline asked, âWho?â
âMarietta Weiss.â
Caroline was familiar with this name. After all, Marietta was currently the most renowned playwright.
Additionally, she had pretty much read all of Mariettaâs books.
