Sean, who had been outperformed in all aspects since childhood, almost couldn’t hold back his joy when he saw Kirk lose for the first time.

“I’m going to call them in,” Sean said before going out to call Caroline and Gwen.

Kirk knew Sean very well. Even if he didn’t do as Sean wanted him to, Sean still wouldn’t tell Caroline what he had done.

Thinking that Sean was in a worse situation than him, Kirk didn’t expose Sean’s lie. He pretended to stir awake when Caroline and Gwen walked into the room.

When Caroline saw Kirk awake, her worries were put to rest. She returned to her usual attitude, putting distance between them again.

She stood beside Kirk’s bed and asked, “Are you hungry? Do you want something?”

Kirk shook his head, his eyes following Caroline. His gaze was so passionate that even a blind person could feel its intensity.

Caroline told herself she should be nice to him since he was a patient right now. So she resisted the urge to push his face aside.

“Since Kirk is awake, we’ll be taking our leave.” Sean silently gestured his gratitude to Kirk and dragged Gwen out of the ward.

Inevitably, Gwen’s struggles echoed in the hospital again, but not in an intense way.

Gwen wasn’t actually that determined in her approach, was she? Caroline curled her lips into a small smile at the thought.

As their voices faded away, the room became quiet again. Only then did she realize they were the only ones left in the room.

Caroline sat down, keeping her head lowered. After a long while, she couldn’t take the silence anymore and raised her head. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m doing okay.”

“Then… I’ll get someone to take care of you.”
