Chapter 437
Bogus Billionaire
Gwen couldnât conceal her joy at the fact that her father had been beaten up.
âWhat happened?â Caroline texted her back. Gwen was probably still asleep now, so there wasnât a reply after the message was sent.
Caroline then clicked into Marinaâs chatbox but saw that there werenât any new messages. After giving it some thought, she sent her a voice message. âDo you have any news?â
Marina replied almost instantly. âNo. Wait for a little longer. Tell your friend not to worry, because Iâll definitely find out who that manâs wife is. -Marinaâ
There was nothing Caroline could do but wait for Marinaâs findings. After freshening up, Caroline rushed over to her company. She was early today, so there werenât many people in the elevator.
She pressed the button on the floor she wanted to get on. Then, right before she pressed the button to close the elevator doors, she heard someone call out, âWait-â
Caroline froze and waited until the person entered the elevator before pressing the button. âWhich floor are you headed?â
âYouâre finally here! I thought you had abandoned your company!â
Caroline glanced up from the button to see Layla and immediately regretted her decision.
She should have simply pressed the button to avoid this catastrophe.
Laylaâs words captured the attention of those around them, and the people looked at Caroline with puzzled looks.
âMy company is doing just fine. Why would I abandon it?â Caroline said.
âOnly for now, though. Just wait until my company releases its latest product. Iâm sure your company will go bankrupt by then,â Layla said.
âOh, sorry. Itâs our company thatâs going to go bankrupt, Sarah and the rest of the Evans family would be so pissed that they will tear you into pieces.
âI told you long ago that you werenât fit for this,â Layla added.
âYou shouldâve just let me handle the comny, but you insisted on doing it yourself.â
âDonât you think itâs too early for you to be so full of yourself?â Caroline spat.
According to the plan, her latest product would only be released on the third day after Soniaâs drama was broadcast.
Besides, they still had to wait for two days until the drama was released. There was nothing to be nervous about.
âCaroline, I know what youâre waiting for.â Layla wasnât done with her roasting.
âYouâre waiting for that actressâ drama to get broadcasted, right? Listen up; Iâve already asked an expert to watch it. A puny little actress like her wonât get famous overnight.â
She then inched closer to Caroline. âMost stars who get famous all of a sudden usually offer their directors something under the table.
âEven if Soniaâs acting is good, she doesnât know how to do business, so she wonât ever become famous,â she said in a lowered voice.
âBesides, she works for Sorkin Group. She would be as good as dead if I asked Eddy to help me get rid of her.â
Caroline narrowed her eyes at her. âYour rival is me. You donât have to get rid of a stranger.â
This made Layla laugh. âDonât worry. Naturally, I wonât touch her. If I did, Iâm sure youâd call me a coward for being afraid of a mere actress like her.â
The shadow on Carolineâs face lifted a little. âThatâs good to hear.â
âIn the end, the competition is between us both only. Iâll win this fair and square and prove to everyone that I make a much better wife for Eddy than you.â
The doors of the elevator opened just in time, and Caroline strode out with a smile.
Layla scowled as she watched Caroline leave. She loathed that indifferent look on Carolineâs face, which made it seem like nothing could drag her down.
è® She thought, âJust wait, Caroline. In five days, Iâll surely make you kneel at my feet and beg for mercy.
The mirrored walls in the elevator reflected the ugly scowl on her face, and she took a deep breath to recompose herself.
When she reached the floor she was headed for, she walked out of the elevator and into her office to see Emery walking in her direction.
âWhereâs Dan and Sarah?â Layla asked.
Emeryâs expression shifted a little before replying. âTâthey went downstairs.â
Layla knitted her brows in displeasure. âTo see Caroline?â
âI think so.â
âDidnât she cut ties with them? Why did they go to see her?â
Emery wasnât sure either, so she shook her head.
âDo you know what theyâre here for?â Layla asked.
Emery shook her head again, which made Layla more furious. She was about to lash out at Emery, but the scowl on her face abruptly vanished.
A thought occurred to her, and she sneered.
They must be begging Caroline to let them go! How idiotic!
