âMr. Langstrom, Iâm counting on you to expand our business to the market in
the Southeast region.â Mackenzie spoke coldly, demonstrating her efficiency
in delegating duties. As soon as she dismissed the meeting, everybody else
left, whereupon she sat down in her seat in exhaustion. At that moment, Lexi
was the only one who was still keeping her company in the conference room.
âItâs been two weeks, but why hasnât that moron responded to my message?â
Mackenzie gently rubbed her temples and murmured to herself, although
she sounded like she was asking someone a question.
As someone who knew Mackenzie well, Lexi had been carefully observing her
for the past few days. Until she saw how concerned Mackenzie was about
Emmanuel, she never thought her boss would miss a man so dearly.
Maybe itâs true that the power of love is unimaginable. Lexi nudged her own.
glasses, complimenting herself for making a smart move to stay single. It
looks like Iâm doing the right thing without dating anyone, or Iâm going to be
the one suffering.
âAnswer me, Lexi.â
When Mackenzie set her piercing gaze upon Lexi, the latter felt shivers
running down her spine and quickly answered, âMs. Quillen, everyone across
the city knows whom youâre looking for. Theyâre just not sure if youâre the one
who sent that message. Weâve done everything we could, but Emmanuel is
still nowhere to be found, which can only mean one thing-he is out of
Yeringham.
âDamn it!â Mackenzie clenched her fists. âIâm going to make him pay for this
when I find him!â
Lexi couldnât help but shudder at the sight of Mackenzieâs intimidating eyes,
thinking Emmanuel would never dare show up again if he saw her menacing
expression. Suddenly, Mackenzie heard a notification alert from her phone
and saw an incoming message. Upon skimming through the text, she was
seen with her mouth slightly wide agape, her face changing. The next
moment, she rose from her seat and walked straight out the door.
âWhere are you going, Ms. Quillen?â Lexi asked in a panicky manner, following
closely behind Mackenzie.
âOnza!â Mackenzie gave a terse reply, leaving in a hurry without waiting for
anyone to come along with her. Upon rushing downstairs to the parking lot,
she entered her Maserati and drove to Onza straight away. It turned out that
the message she received not long ago was from Beatrix, who had informed
her of something related to Emmanuelâs whereabouts.
I canât believe she actually found something about Emmanuelâs whereabouts
after skipping work for ten days. At that moment, Mackenzieâs mind was filled
with only Emmanuel, thinking, she would punish him terribly when she found
him. Finally, Emmanuel! Iâm going to make you regret ghosting me! Hmph!
Putting her foot on the gas pedal, Mackenzie sped up on the road as she
couldnât wait to arrive in Onza. At the same time, she couldnât help but
question what was wrong with herself. After all, she didnât feel quite like
herself as she had always disliked being anywhere close to any man until
Emmanuel entered her life. Since then, her life seemed to have changed so
much that she could never go back to the life she once had before he
showed up.
Having lived together with Emmanuel for nearly two months, Mackenzie was
already used to the life in which he prepared her daily meals and drove her
anywhere she wanted to go. Also, she had already grown used to frequently
interacting with Emmanuelâs family members. Thus, without Emmanuel, she
felt as if something was missing from her life. Also, she couldnât stop thinking
about the last two times Emmanuel came to her rescue in a foolhardy
manner despite the dire situation she was in.
Just when Mackenzie was still absorbed in her thoughts, she began to enter
Onzaâs main road when she found herself stuck in the traffic. Then, after she
took a closer look at what was going on ahead of her, her eyes were filled
with indifference.
Several people were standing in a circle with candles around them at the
junction. Then, a man was seen holding a bouquet, getting ready to confess
to a lady. She was the same person whom Emmanuel met during his
eighteenth speed date, Milani. As their romantic interaction drew the
attention of many bystanders, the traffic soon became congested, but the
duo wasnât concerned by that as they seemed to enjoy the feeling of being in
the spotlight.
