Chapter 233
Chasing My Pregnant Wife
Rosalie forced a smile. âNothing interesting, Grandma. You know that I donât have a job right now,
soâ¦â
âOh yes. On the topic of a job, would you consider working at your motherâinâlawâs bank? You
majored in finance and that matches the opening they have.â
If Rosalie could work there, Rebecca would feel assured. Someone would be taking care of Rosalie
and ensure she wouldnât get
harassed. Sydney was slightly aloof by nature, but she was not wicked.
âIâ¦â In fact, Rosalie didnât want to work for any company associated with the Spencers.
She was happy to visit Rebecca and keep the latter company frequently, but she would rather avoid
the Spencers as much as
possible in other aspects of her life.
Rosalieâs hesitation made the smile on Rebeccaâs face fade. âWhatâs the matter? You donât want
to?â a
âGrandma, Iâll find my job on my own, so please donât worry about it. Or do you find me so incapable
that I canât even find a job for myself, and have to rely on you all for help?â
Rosalie pouted to express her displeasure. Her feigned displeasure, that is.
Rebecca hurriedly explained, âI didnât mean that. I know that youâre a smart girl. I just want to help
you so that youâll suffer less.â
âGrandma, Iâm not suffering. In fact, Iâm very blessed. Thank you for your guidance and care over
the years. Things are great right now,
really.â
Rosalie was speaking from the bottom of her heart.
She couldnât ignore how well Grandma had treated her over the past decade just because of her
relationship struggles with Theo. She was at least capable of separating these two issues.
Rebecca suddenly sighed. âYouâre such a kindâhearted girl. Strictly speaking, the accident your
parents were in was due to a problem with SK Enterpriseâs chemical plant. And yet, youâve never
blamed usâ for it.â
âGrandma, as youâve said, it was an accident,â Rosalie said. âNo one wanted it to happen. It was
fated to happen, and I believe my parents have gone to heaven where there is no pain or sorrow.â
âYes,â Rebecca lamented. âYour parents were good people. If it werenât for them back then, Iâm sure
more people would have been hurt. Youâre a good kid, too. That aunt of yours was too wicked to
burn through your parentsâ compensation money and even abandon you. Who would have thought
that she was that kind of person?!â
Rosalie was but ten years old at that time, and she was too young to receive the compensation
money. Legally speaking, the compensation money had to be given to her guardian, who would
manage it.
Many relatives fought to be Rosalieâs guardian for the money. Eventually, her aunt ended up
assuming the tole as her closest kin.
Rebecca sighed, filled with remorse.
âItâs all my fault for not checking through things thoroughly and being so anxious to compensate
you! Had I known that she was that kind of person, I would have adopted you no matter how
troublesome it was. That way, you wouldnât have needed to live with your aunt and watch her
squander your parentsâ compensation money. Iâm sure she
mistreated you. You must have suffered under her care.â
Rosalie forced a smile. âIt was all right.â
She did suffer during the year she lived with her aunt. Her aunt had a bad gambling habit and a
terrible temper, and would often flare up at her. She was forced to do all the chores at home, and
was treated like a maid, made to cook, clean, wash the clothes, and bear the brunt of her auntâs
fury.
Sometimes, when her aunt had a drop too much, Rosalie would run toâ her room and lock the door
out of fear. Her aunt would then hammer at her door, completely wasted.
