Chapter 644
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 644:
Inside, nestled in velvet, was a sleek, elegant wristwatch. The design felt strangely familiar. She furrowed her brows, trying to place where she had seen it before.
Eric smirked knowingly. âLooks familiar?â
Before she could answer, he plucked the watch from the box, gently taking her left wrist and fastening the strap.
âPerfect fit.â His voice was smooth, satisfied. âYour wrist is so slender, and the strap sits just right. The color complements your skin tone too.â
Hadley frowned, pulling her wrist back slightly. âEric, this is too expensive.â
âExpensive?â He arched a brow. âItâs just a watch.â Then, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, he added, âBesides, itâs a pairâwith mine.â
Realization dawned on her.
That was why it looked familiarâhe had the exact same one. Only his was slightly largerâthe menâs version.
Eric chuckled. âI didnât expect it to be ready so soon, but since they had mine as a reference, they basically just replicated it.â Indeed, a bespoke timepiece. One of only two in the world.
Suddenly, Hadley felt the weight of the watch on her wrist. It was too muchâtoo extravagant, too valuable. She hesitated, fingers brushing over the sleek surface.
âMaybe I should just put it away.â Her voice was light, but there was a tinge of unease. âItâs too precious. If I scratch it orâworseâlose it, wouldnât that be a shame?â
âDonât worry about that.â
Before she could take it off, Eric caught her hand, holding it firmly in place.
âScratches can be fixed. And losing it?â He smirked, shaking his head. âThatâs impossible.â His fingers traced the strap as he spoke. âEach watch has a unique serial numberâlike DNA. As long as that number exists, it can always be found.â His voice dipped lower, coaxing. âSo just wear it.â

Lifting her wrist, he brought it close to her ear.
âListen.â Ericâs smile deepened. âWeâre wearing the same watch, Hadley. Itâs like weâre always connected, no matter where we are.â
Hadley stilled. Her breath caught, her heart skipping a beat. What a beautiful sentiment!
After tidying up, Hadley and Eric made their way downstairs for breakfast.
Halfway through the meal, Ericâs phone buzzed. Seeing Nylaâs name on the screen, he answered immediately. âYes, Grandma. Got it. Donât worry. Iâve remembered everything.â
After hanging up, he casually glanced at Hadleyâs plate and, as usual, reached over to take the egg yolk she hadnât eaten.
âWeâre heading back this afternoon,â he said, popping the yolk into his mouth and speaking between bites. âGrandma wants to discuss details about my brotherâs wedding.â
Hadley simply nodded. âOkay.â
After lunch, they rested for a while before heading out together. Eric took the wheel, but instead of going straight to Flynn Mansion, he made a detour.
âWeâll stop by the hospital first,â he explained. âGrandmaâs medication is running low, so I need to pick up her prescription.â
âDo you want to come along?â Eric asked after parking the car. Hadley instantly tensed. Joy was also in this hospital. What if they ran into each other?
She rejected the idea immediately, shaking her head.
âNo, Iâll wait in the car.â
