Chapter 320
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âNo, mom. I promise you-Iâm fine!â Amelia spoke through the phone. I sat on the sofa, eavesdropping on her conversation, and couldnât help but feel jealous.
She appeared to be having some kind of discussion with her mom, which almost reminded me of my dad How would he be doing?
Unfortunately, those were not my concerns anymore. It was the price I had to pay for being with Marvin, and I was willing to pay that price. When I got with Marvin, I knew what I signed up for.
When would Marvin be home?
He had been working since early in the morning, and I would lie if I said that I didnât miss him.
Although I wasnât alone, the lack of company in this house was slowly getting to me.
âIâm so sorry you had to hear all of that,â Amy spoke, ending her phone call. âIt was my mom, and you know how moms get.â
No, I donât-because I donât have a mom.
âYes, donât worry about it.â I faked a smile. âBut she seems to be worried, is everything okay?â
âAmazing!â Amy nodded. âBecause of Marvin, I get to take care of my family-and all of that while he actually meant to kill me.â
âWhat?â
âT-thatâs clearly a joke.â Amy stammered, surprised. So he was supposed to kill her? I didnât know whether to feel relieved that he didnât or concerned because he was actually capable of doing so.
Relax, Elena. You knew this all along I had promised myself to stay away from all that cartel crap because it was probably for the best. I had to move on.
âWhatâs with the look on your face? âI heard Marvinâs voice.
With a big smile, I turned around to face him, but that smile had quickly vanished as he covered his cheek. âOh my god!â I stepped closer.
Curious, I grabbed Marvinâs hand to pull it away from his cheek, revealing a noticeable red bruise.
âWho did this to you? What happened?â I asked as Marvin released a chuckle.
This was nothing. He probably had worse, and here I was-acting all concerned. âActually, never mind- are you alright?â
Amy covered her mouth, trying to hold back her laughter. âMarvin, itâs like you have blush on your cheek.â She giggled.
âBlush?â Marvin folded his arms. âIâm not blushing?â
Amelia and I shot each other a look, rolling our eyes. âHe doesnât understand, Men.â Amy sighed dramatically. âAnyway, Iâll give the two of you some space-so if you donât mind?â
âNo, of course not,â Marvin spoke. âYou worked hard today, so you can go home if you want.â
+5 Bonus Amy frowned. âElena and I got manicures today, so I donât know about that.â She nudged his shoulder. âBut Iâll see you tomorrow, bye guys!â
âBye, get home safely and text me!â
âWhat are you, her mom?â Marvin teased me after Amy left. I ignored his words and moved my hand to the red bruise on his cheek. âOw-ow, it hurts so much!â Marvin joked before pressing a kiss on my forehead.
âI thought you were supposed to be this strong and amazing guy.â I pouted. There was definitely more to it. I could see it in his eyes. He was just doing all of this to ease the tension, but strangely enough, I was okay with it.
âMy dad did this.â Marvin suddenly spoke.I never asked. I was very cautious with my questions because Marvin promised not to lie anymore-but I had never expected him to become an open book.
âHold up-you got into a fightâ¦with your dad?â
âNo. Victor.â Marvin scoffed. âBut thatâs unrelated to the bruise because he didnât get me, of course.
Victor?
âWait-why did you fight your brother? I wondered. âYou shouldnât fight your brother,â I spoke, remembering Alex. Growing up, we fought a lot, but somehow he ended up being the person I missed the most.
I really had to stop with these questions, and I really had to stay out of his business.
Marvin stared into my eyes as he brushed his fingers through my hair and looked at me with a sarcastic smile on his lips. âHeâs not my brotherâ¦and he called you a whore, Elena.â
Okay, Screw Victor.
âOh wow, in that case, I hope you beat him up really well,â I spoke in disbelief. The thing which worried me the most was probably his family. I knew all of this didnât look good and that it looked like I was after Marvinâs money. People had been judging me for ages, but this situation was different. I didnât want Marvin to get the wrong image of me.
âHey, whatâs wrong?â Marvin asked, worried.
âNothing.â I took a breath. âI just donât want to become between you and your family-
âVictor and I never got along, so you donât have anything to worry about.â Marvin cut me off. âIâm not just going to stand there and let him disrespect you like that, okay?â
âOkay.â
âSo, what did you do today?â Marvin changed the subject. âOther than yourâ¦.manicure.â
Embarrassed, I lowered my head. I did not have work today, and I didnât have anyone to hang out withâ which was I dragged poor Amelia out of the house.
âNothing, just waiting for you.â
A chuckle escaped from Marvinâs lips. âOf course.â He spoke proudly. Seeing the satisfied look on his face made my day because that meant he wasnât tired of me. At least, not yet.
âAlso, I mightâve accidentally wiped some chocolate on our white bedroom wall,â I confessed.
Marvin shrugged. âNo problem.â
âReally?â I sighed. âIâm also very clumsy, so I broke a shelf-and now some of your stuff is on the floor.â
âS-shelf? How do you evenâ¦.â Marvin blinked before taking a deep breath. âI mean-Itâs okay, donât worry about it.â He smiled. âBreak whatever you want. Weâll just replace it.â
How could someone be that kind? He was doing everything to make me feel comfortable, and all I could give him in return were lies upon lies.He didnât deserve this.
âSo, I finally got that off my chest.â
âIs there more?â Marvin asked, concerned. I shook my head. âNo, that was it!â
Marvin shot me a warm smile, but behind that smile, I could clearly see the exhausted expression on his face. âYou must be tired,â I spoke. âHow about you take a nap, and Iâll make you some dinner.â
I waited the entire day, just to spend some time with him-but Marvin was a busy person with a demanding family. He did not have a regular job, which I had to learn to accept.
âElena, we have maids.â Marvin laughed.
âI know, itâs a disaster!â I facepalmed. I did not need anyone to clean the house, fold my clothes, and all that other stuff. It almost felt like using a cheat in a video game. It felt wrong.
âHow about we go out?â Marvin suggested.
âOut?â
âYes, youâve been waiting for me this entire time-and I feel bad about it.â Marvin yawned. âIâm not tired yet.â
âThen why did you yawn?â
âOh, so now what?â Marvin raised his brow. âAre you telling me Iâm not allowed to yawn anymore?â
Marvin stared into my eyes while I stared right back at him-waiting for him to crack, but it didnât happen. âFine, you win.â I giggled. âWhere are we going?â
âLet me think.â Marvin went into deep thoughts.
âHow about we go to the place where you walked out on me?â
The place I walked out on him? After everything which had happened between us, I felt so bad. He had it all planned out while I bailed on him after reading Victoriaâs text.I shouldâve never listened to her in the first place. âAre you still not over that?â
âNo, the Castilloâs own that place-so that really hurt my pride,â Marvin answered as he reached for my hand. âAnd I want us to end our first date properly.â
âFine, letâs do it.â
