I shouldn't be scared about what someone was going to say about my thoughts, my feelings, my life but, here I was, itching to flee from the upcoming session with Sophia Davies.
It's not like none of what she was going to say mattered cause it doesn't, but these shrinks had a way of dealing with you and your feelings in all making you think twice about who you really are.
Did they really go to school, paid tons of money to read the minds of people?
That didn't sit well with me but I promised Jacob that I'd join his son's session and I wasn't going to back out.
I had complete faith that Darien's shrink was going to be gentle with us. I mean after witnessing a session she had with Darien some few months back, I thought she was great, and loved Darien like a son.
Besides, I knew she wouldn't do anything to harm him-or me in this case.
We were still in the hospital and my bed was still in Darien's room after he pushed for me to be here.
I wasn't complaining. I've loved every bit of it.
His assistant; Salina, was here setting up his laptop for our joint session. Albeit she knew and saw us prepping ourselves for Davies, she was trying really hard to get Darien's attention who in oblivion gave it to her fully.
My ability to control myself at this point absolutely stunned her because she thought I was going to react, guess it bounced back at her. It wasn't until a nurse came in before she was shoved outside.
"You ready for this?" But I wasn't. Well partly because Salina had completely spoilt my mood. Why are we women like this? You see two happy couple living their lives and you decide to barge in and destroy that. That was a devil's pawn.
She was the devil's pawn.
"Can we talk about the elephant in the room?" Was all I could mutter slightly jabbing myself for bringing this up. I didn't want to look like a nagging partner.
"What are you talking about? Thank you-" he groaned at the nurse who came in to take a look at his thighs.
"Your assistant."
He looked at me bewilderingly as if I had grown two heads.
"She likes you."
"I heard. Was planning on sending her a letter to resign after we got out of here. I promise I don't like her, you're the only one for me."
Well, that did calm me-a bit. And his sheepish smile and soft eyes made it difficult to stay mad at him.
"She's very good at her job but since she's crossed the line, I have to let her go. Besides, I wanted to tell you after we leave this horrible place but can you get me a replacement?"
My smile broke off the semi tension in the air. That was so thoughtful of him but the responsibility to find an assistant for him, that, I didn't have time for since I was hoping to get back right into work.
"Pleeeaassee. I want you to pick out someone you won't want to chew when they pop up in front us."
I chuckled rolling my eyes at his silliness.
"I'm serious. If looks could kill, she would have been dead. The way you were staring at her gave me the chills. Tell me, how many true crime documentaries have you watched?-Ouch!"
This time, it was me holding my stomach as I laughed at him. He forgot he was steadily recovering and tried to raise one of his legs.
The ping from the laptop caught our attention before giving us some thirty seconds to see Davies on the screen.
This was it. The moment our blood gets sucked out by the leech.
Just kidding.
"You ready?"
"Whenever you are."
The fake smile plastered on my face hit right on time when Davies appeared on the screen. What did I get myself into.
