Chapter 16: Trails

Between The Walls732 words~4 min read

Hours went by, no sign of the boys nor men. I am starting to think they didn't make it, but I am trying to deny it. Liam is pacing back and forth inside the room with his hands rubbing together nervously, unsure what to do. I am seated on the floor with Skylar's head rested on my shoulder while she sobs, and I try holding in my tears.

We are all starving, dehydrated, and tired. We haven't eaten or got any good sleep. Liam starts muttering things to himself, and I couldn't hear him, but it sounds like I should be worried.

"Liam?" I whispered, looking up at him. He continues pacing back and forth without answering, or I guess he didn't hear me when I called. "Liam?" What's going on with him? "Liam!"

He jumps to my raised voice and whips his head around, "Fuck! What? Why are you yelling?" He looks so wild and stressed his lips were cracked and dry, and it makes me lick my lips, thinking that they are dried. His hand is twitching uncontrollably. I look at him concernedly.

"Come sit with me?" He shakes his head, looking down at his hands. "Why?" I ask softly.

"Julia, there is no time to relax when we have dead friends, and two more we not sure are dead, or maybe they are!" He snaps tears forming in his eyes, I am so taken back at his rage, and he sees my expression and softens. "I am sorry, I am just-just...fucked up right now..."

I sigh, "It's okay because we are all sick and tired it has been a rough day and a half," I sigh, stretching my arms to him, trying not to make Skylar uncomfortable.

Liam reaches for it, walks over to us, and sits leaning his head on my lap, closing his eyes.

It wasn't long enough before I fell asleep and woke a couple of hours later, seeing Skylar and Liam looking through the glass. I yawn, getting up, both of them turning to look at me.

"You're up?" Liam smiles weakly at me, and so did Skylar.

"It's night, and the guys haven't come back, and I can't stop worrying," she sighs, making me hold my head down sadly. It is clear now that something is not right.

"We have made up our mind to go look for them, but only if you want to. When we woke outside was empty, no one was in sight and still isn't, but I kept hearing bangs in the walls, so that means the men are back inside," I look up at him nodding.

"Let's do it, let's go look for the guys and try getting the remote if there is a chance," we have no choice, and if we stay in here any longer we might die. Maybe while we're outside, we could grab some food.

"Let's do this no," Skylar says sadly, and I nod, walking towards the door and placing the code inside. The door makes a noise then cracks open.

As soon as we step foot outside, my whole body shivers with fear. I sigh, knowing I can't turn back now.

The house is quiet, too quiet for our good that it makes me comprehend that something is wrong.

"Where do we go first?" Skylar asks. This house is huge so, we have to choose wisely, not to get lost.

"The way we know the guys went," she nods, then we turn to the side where the guys went, then start our way there, going inside a sitting room that leads somewhere else.

We walked through cautiously, looking around. We make our way down a hallway that is divided into three, one going straight down and the others on both left and right sides.

Liam and I walk towards the right side, thinking that Skylar is behind us.

"Oh my God," I hear her slap her hand over her mouth, and Liam and I agile our head around to see her standing in the left hallway, horrified.

We hurry over to her and look where she's looking, and I gasp immediately, covering my mouth with my hands.

There is a pool of blood on the floor before us and some trailing to the other hallway. The trail looking like it was someone that has been dragged.

"Please, it can't be them," I squeal.
