Chapter 25: A new team and an old story

The evening after Black was chased down by his temporary teammates, He, Vegeta, Trunks, and Gohan all started on their way to professor Ozpin's office.

Trunks had calmed down Vegeta from his earlier rage some more and he was now back to normal.

"So, this Ozpin is the principal of the school?" Gohan asked Black who was leading the group to the elevator to Ozpins office.

"I believe the title he goes by is headmaster but yes, he is in charge of the school."

Vegeta scoffed next to Black "I don't think I'll ever understand the need for such a meaningless title."

Gohan smugly replied"Says the 'Prince' of all three whole saiyans."

"Four whol- Shut up!" The prince told him embarrassed.

Trunks chuckled nervously while Black laughed his head off.

They had finally made it to the elevator before they crowded in and started on their way up.

The elevator was silent except for the dreaded elevator music that played.

"That's new." Black said.

"And annoying." Vegeta added.

The ride and music continued until Vegeta punch through a part of the elevator and pulled out a group of wires that cut the music off.

"How did you know that it would just cut the music off?" Trunks asked his father.

The elevator doors open at their stop as soon as Vegeta had crushed some of the small electrical circuit boards in his hand. "I didn't."

The rest of his group looked at him with a comedic worrisome face.

Ozpin looked at Vegeta with a small smile. "Not a fan of music are you?"

"Not that kind." Vegeta told him before walking in with the rest if his group.

"Two more new comers are there? Are they the ones that assisted with the Grimm invasion in the plaza?" Ozpin asked then.

"This is them Ozpin, allow me to introduce Son Gohan and Trunks."

Trunks bowed to Ozpin in a sign of respect while Gohan gave a simple nod.

"No need to bow before me, I am no deity like Mr. Black." Ozpin told him before coming around from his desk.

"Like my son would ever bow to him off all people." Vegeta said aloud.

"Your son?" Ozpin raised an eyebrow.

"Right, that's the next part. Trunks is Vegeta son a saiyan hybrid and Gohan is also a saiyan hybrid. This bodies son."

Ozpins eyes widen "So now I have four saiyans in my school?!"

"We were just as surprised as you are." Vegeta told him.

Ozpin sighed before looking at the group in front of him.

"Alright, Four of you makes an official team. I'll announce it and the leader of this team at the tournament. There should be a set of vacant dorms by team RWBY and JNPRs dorm rooms. I believe there's one just two doors down. It should be big enough for the four of you."

"Wait, why didn't we just use my room?" Vegeta asked Ozpin.

"You got your own room?" Black asked him in a little envy.

"I'm afraid your old room is on the staff side of the dorms. I'm afraid you'll have to move. I think this actually might be the first a teacher is on a team with students. But I'm not to worried about it, after all with you four being as strong as you are, a little special circumstance is to be expected."

"Alright then, I'll be checking out this new room of ours." Vegeta told Ozpin and his new team.

"We don't know our way around so can we go with you?" Trunks asked Vegeta with Gohan behind him.

"I don't care." Vegeta said as he boarded the elevator.

The two saiyan hybrids quickly followed but Black staid behind.

Ozpin said nothing until the elevator doors closed.

"I'm assuming you want to talk, Mr. Black?" Ozpin asked him sitting down back behind his desk.

"Yeah, something like that." Black confirmed and sat down in one of the chairs in front of his desk.

"Well, what's is it that you wished to tell me behind closed doors?" Ozpin leaned forward on his desk awaiting Blacks talk.

"Well, I'm sure Doctor Oobleck told you that we fought Baby at Mount Glenn."

"That he did." Ozpin told Black.

"Well, when me and Vegeta went in Mount Glenn to track him down, we found.....something." Black told him not entirely sure of the hieroglyphs of the Grimm and the supposed leader they suggested.

Black pulled his scroll out and pulled up the pictures of the ancient pictures and handed it off to Ozpin.

Ozpin looked at the first set of pictures before squinting his eyes and a look of distain came over his face.

He sat the scroll onto his desk and a transparent holographic projection of the pictures appeared between him and Black.

"Do you have any idea what any of these could mean?" Black asked him.

Ozpins eyes scanned over the pictures until he reached the one with the figure surrounded by Grimm.

Something went through his mind that his eyes conveyed for a second but Black caught it.

"What does it mean? I know you know something I can see it written on your face." Black asked him again.

Ozpin sighed in a tired voice. "Your asking if the Grimm have a leader?"

Black nodded.

"Then, yes. Yes they do. Her name is Salem." Ozpin told him with a sadness Black could hear from a mile away.

"There's a story behind this. I want to know it. I need to know what were up against." Black told him.

"There are some matters that I prefer to keep close to me Mr. Black." Ozpin told him with a hint of anger welling in his throat.

Black looked him in the eyes "I can't help you beat her if you won't tell me who she is. I trusted you with my secrets, you can trust me with yours." Black told him with a honest and soft spoken tone.

He wanted honest answers from a friend, not a brutal interrogation of the headmaster of Beacon.

Ozpin looked down before sighing again.

"It is a long story. One that I regret being able to tell."

Black sat back in his seat. "You know I know that kind of pain Ozpin."

"I've never told the whole story before but, I feel as though you do deserve the full story after everything you have shown of your brutal past."

Black staid silent but nodded his head in a sort of thank you.

"Well, I guess I should start at the beginning, the very beginning." Ozpin said standing to his feet with his staff in hand.

"Long, long ago, when humanity and magic were still intertwined there was a girl locked away in a old castle with all kinds of dangers to keep her in, and would be rescuers out.

For years she staid there, until a  young man, the strongest, bravest warrior in all the land ventured into the castle and defeated those dangers and rescued the young maiden. The two escaped the castle and went on to find love in each others arms. That girl was Salem. And that man was known as Ozma, all though you now know him as-"

"Ozpin........you and Salem.....what happen that turned her into something like that?" Black referenced the hieroglyph.

"Well, I fell ill some time after I rescued her from her prison. And I died from the sickness. Salem couldn't accept that. She sought to bring me back by pleading with one of the two gods that lived amongst us. The god light. He refused telling her that the cycle of life and death were sacred. Unable to cope with his decision she tried the gods younger brother. The god of darkness. He was..... A different story, he brought me back but the older brother wished to keep the delicate balance of the cycle intact so he followed Salem. He....redacted his brothers actions and sent me back to the afterlife. The younger god in anger of his brother coming to his domain and doing suck a thing after his own actions brought me back. The brothers repeated this cycle and ended it with the older brother sending me back and the two nearly began to fight. This all happen in Salem's presence, with me fading in and out of her arms. It is probably what drove her mad. I'm sure if the situation had been reversed I would be in her shoes and she would be in mine."

Black listened in sadness of the origin of the story of his friend and the witch Salem.

"But, the story continues. The elder brother god explained what happen and much to the dismay of Salem agreed with his brother.

Now Salem had lost me with no chance of me returning to her arms by either of the gods. She had always had a silver tongue and she use it to persuade countless armies to killing the two gods in an attempt for them all to bring back those they had lost. It didn't work as you could imagine. The god of darkness destroyed almost all of human kind and the eldest god, in anger of her defiance gave Salem a curse like no other. He made her immortal. So that she could walk the world forever and never be able to go to the afterlife. The brothers left the world, taking part of the moon with them." Ozpin told Black while referencing the shattered moon behind him.

"Salem walked the earth for countless years before she tried something that would ultimately be both of our undoings. To make her immortal the eldest god dropped her in the waters of where he resided on earth. She believed that the waters of the youngest brothers domain would undo her curse and send her to the afterlife. Instead it corrupted her and started turning her into a monster of Grimm. The queen of Grimm if you would.

But the eldest brother did not want to leave the world as he and his brother did at first. Instead he brought my soul from the afterlife and gave me a mission. He told me to gather the four relics of the old world. The things that gave the first wave of humanity the ability to use magic. He asked me to bring these relics together when the time was right to summon the brothers back to the world now called Remnant. Then he and his brother would pass judgement on the world. And they would either come to stay amongst us again, or they would end the world. For good this time. He knew this mission would take years so he gave me an ability not unlike Salem's immortality. I can reincarnate into a like minded being. With this new gift he brought me back to the world. Of course I was confused at first but eventually I found Salem again. At the time she still had some humanity in her. So we forgot the past and tried to start anew. She kept her actions after my death a secret and I my mission. We were happy for a time. But her corruption worsened over time but I kept a blind eye to it. Eventually she told me that the world needed direction after the gods left and that we could be the forces that drove them in that direction. So I blindly followed her and we were still happy. We had four daughters during the years of our ruling. And we were still happy. But the elder gods mission still stood in my mind. I eventually told Salem to which she told me that I should just forget the old gods and that we, the new gods, would rule over the people now. It was then that I saw what she had become, but it was me that turned her completely against humanity. I tried to sneak my daughters away with me but She caught me. Her anger killed all four of them. And then it killed me."

Black sat silent, not in shock but in sorrow of his past.

"I spent the next several lifetimes trying to forget her, my mission. But everything came back eventually and so I began to fulfill that mission. I locked away the relics in the four kingdoms."

Black looked at him again but this time he had a look of shock "You built the schools around them didn't you?!"

Ozpin nodded. "The relics are guarded by trained warriors every second Salem tries to retrieve them."

"I can understand that. But there are still children involved and that unsettles me." Black told him.

"At first it was just to be a safeguard with warriors protecting then but eventually people forgot about Salem, The relics, the maidens, and even the gods themselves. So I turned the four vaults into schools, this way I can help redeem some of my actions while I.....ruled with Salem. Surely you can see my reasoning behind that."

Black sighed and nodded understanding his own similar wishes.

"So, an immortal who wants to destroy all of humanity. Sounds to familiar for my own taste. Do you have any way of defeating her, a plan of some kind?"

Ozpin stood still and quietly said "No. Only to keep the relics from her."

He expected Black to explode in anger but he only placed a hand under his chin in a thinking like manner.

"Well that makes things a little harder. Let's see there aren't many ways to stop an immortal. I only know one way to kill them.....hmmm. I'll see what I can think of and we can come up with something after the tournament."

Ozpin looked at him in shock and awe. "You can kill her?!"

Black looked at him "Well....maybe. I've never attempted the technique that's capable of killing an immortal but I've seen it been used and I have second hand knowledge if it killing an immortal. But I do know a few ways to trap one." Black told him.

Ozpin started to smile. His worst nightmare could be coming to end thanks to a single man.

"Well then, Ozpin or should I call you Ozma.....Ozpa? Ozmin? What ever you want to be called I'll think up some stuff we can try. I'm going to go and see my new room. I can't wait to actually sleep in a real bed." Black told him while boarding the elevator down.

"Yes, of course. We can begin after the tournament, finally true peace can happen."

Black smiled at his state Kent and gave him a nod as the elevator doors closed.

'Alright then, first its the tournament and then Salem. Maybe redemption is closer than I could have hoped for.'
