Chapter Eight: Is There a Such Thing as a Barcade?

"It's gettin' hot in here! So hot! So take off all your clothes!"

"I am, gettin' so hot, I wanna take my clothes off!" Me and Manon sing at the top of our lungs.

"I swear this movie better be worth it, since I have been driving for at least an hour with you idiots." Nova snarls.

"It ain't my fault the theater it's playing at it, is so far." I state. Kai fell asleep and is now resting his head on my shoulder.

Cole bobs his head to the song playing, scrolling through his phone. I rest my head on Kai's, but as soon as I do, the car jerks to a stop.

I go flying forward and my head bounces off Nova's seat. Kai screams and shoots up.

"Sorry," Nova mutters, "I almost missed the driveway." he backs up, and pulls into the parking lot of the movie theater.

I rub my forehead, scrunching my nose up. "Are you trying to give me a concussion? Wait you're trying to kill me, aren't you?"

"Yeah. I totally am. That's why I slammed on the breaks." Nova responds with sarcasm. He stops the car and everyone piles out.

"Oh the sweet taste of freedom!" I call out. I watch everyone stretch, before an evil laugh escapes me.

"Hey Chip, come over here real quick." I tell Kai and he does. He stares at me, waiting for an explanation. Quickly, I grab his hand and begin sprinting.

"Last one in is a rotten egg!" I scream, running at full speed. Kai manages to keep up with me. I look over my shoulder to see Nova right on my tail, Manon and Cole following.

"Come on Chip! We have more of an advantage!" I yell and go faster.

"How?!" Kai screeches.

"Because," I breath heavily before letting his hand go. "Get on my back!"

He jumps on, clutching on me, and I continue running. The movie theater doors come into view.

Almost there..

I slow down, not wanting to run into the doors like an idiot. Kai climbs off my back, and I collapse onto my knees, breathing heavily.

My life is officially over.

Nova jogs up to us, "You really are unfit." Cole reaches us with Manon in his arms, carrying her bridal style.

"Cheaters,"

"Says the one who carried Kai half way here." Cole cocks his head to the side while putting Manon down. She giggles and stands next to me.

"That.. was a bad idea.." I breath out and my leg muscles begin to ache. I sit on the ground, trying to calm down.

Mr. W would be so disappointed.

I'd imagine him saying, "You unfit trash! Get down and give me fifty!"

And then I'd be like, "This isn't the military stupid."

Yeah... I'd probably get an F..

Nova leans down and picks me up by my arm. "Come on lazy bones. Our movie is going to start."

I regained my senses and walked inside with them. We payed for our tickets and I bought popcorn for me and Kai.

Manon reaches for some popcorn, but I slap her hand away. "No! Mine! You bought candy and soda!" I hiss.

She playfully glares at me.

I offer Kai some, and he takes literally one popcorn. "Really Chip? Take more or I'll pimp slap you." he sighs, taking a hand full. Before I could react, Nova snatches the bag out of my hands.

How dare he!

I watch him eat my innocent popcorn like nothing happened. "Come on," he grabs my arm and drags me, leaving the others behind. "I want to get the best seats."

"I mean, okay. But that doesn't concern my popcorn!" I snatch the popcorn back, shoving some in my mouth. He sighs, rolling his eyes. We walk into the theater room just as the movie starts.

"Aw, we missed the previews! I blame you Nova."

"Shut your tiny trap, you're the one who wanted extra butter,"

"Because buttery popcorn is the best."

"Oh my god, where's my phone?"

I laugh along with everyone else, and reach my arm over Nova. I try to grab Manon's soda, my throat dying for something to drink. Nova clamps his hand around my arm, "What are you doing?" he whispers.

"I need the drink.." I whisper back.

He smirks before grabbing hers and drinking it.

... but Manon put her saliva on that...

And now he has...

And that's Cole's boo..

"Uh, that's just.. ew." I gag. Standing up, I step over the feet of the other movie watchers.

Nova grasps my arm, staring at me confused, "What are you doing?"

"I'm just going to get my own drink." I tell him. He nods, letting my arm go.

Dang. He acted like I was going to go ram my head in a cows butthole without any reason.

I'm not like that! That's just straight up nasty!

I wonder if someone actually has tried doing that...

I need help.

I walk down to the snack bar, pulling out my wallet. "Hi, I want a medium soda please." I tell the cashier lady. She nods her head before pouring me my soda.

"Here you go. It'll be three dollars please."

Three dollars? Most movie theaters charge like, twenty dollars for a small soda! Okay, maybe not twenty, but still a lot more than three dollars.

I hand her a ten, "Thank you! Keep the change!"

I'm wastin' money.

I speed walk back to the theater room, getting bombarded with laughter. Dang it. I missed something funny.

(A/N: Yeah. My life- OOOOOOOAHAHSNX...... I'll leave now...)

Sighing, I sit back down. I go to grab some popcorn only to find it empty. I groan, sinking in my seat.

If this is what it feels like to die, I don't like it.

As strange as it is, Nova kept staring at me during the movie. I don't even think he watched the movie. I think he knew, I knew he was staring, but it was very weird. Especially when I laughed.

I walk out the room like a crab, following the group. "Rawr bitches." I snarl and roar. Kai giggles, but immediately stops, as if he committed a horrible crime.

Oh.

My..

God...

"That was adorable what the heck!" I yell and squish his cheeks. He blushes and swats my hands away.

I'm falling in love...

With his adorableness!

I don't think I've ever met any one so adorable before! Besides Pudge of course.

We tramp outside, everyone chatting about the movie. I stay right on Nova's tail, purposely stepping on his shoes. As I give him another flat tire, he whips around. He swoops me up and flips me upside down.

I'm in the upside-down.

Will are you here?!

I yelp, grabbing onto his legs for safety. "Please don't drop me.. I still haven't bought a life on eBay.." I could feel the blood draining from my body, to my head.

"Karma Frost," Cole remarks and Manon punches his arm. Kai stares in horror as if Nova is actually going to drop me.

I hope not.

He lowers me closer to the ground to where my hair touches it.

As Coraline once said, Grossgusting.

Think about all the germs in my hair now! I'll have to use twenty bottles of shampoo.

"Will you stop stepping on my damn shoes?"

I nod, "Yes I promise! I swear on the last bag of chips in my cupboard!"

I lift my head just as I begin to be put upright. I dizzily grab onto him, "That was rude."

"Oh guys look!" Kai points across the street, "It's Wunderland! I haven't been there in forever!" he happily exclaims.

"Do you want to go?" Nova surprisingly asks him in a polite way. Kai nods shyly. "Then let's go."

I catch up to Cole and Manon, ditching Nova with Kai. "Heylo!"

"Hey Frosty." Cole smiles. "Was it fun being upside down?"

"No!" I exclaim. I glance at Manon to see her staring off into space. "Did you like the movie Manon?" I ask her.

She turns to me with a big smile, "Yes! It was so funny! I personally like Jack Black's character the best!"

"Same," Cole agrees.

"Since there's an arcade, is there such thing as a barcade?" I ask them. They both shrug their shoulders.

I need an answer.

Google where you at?

I slow down, walking with Nova and Kai.

"Hey what's up hello." I sling my arms around both of them. "Did you guys like the movie?" Kai nods, and Nova hums in response.

"My favorite character was Dwayne Johnson's." Kai says.

We reached Wunderland. We step inside. Cole payed for our quarters. Manon takes off towards the vending machine. I grab Kai and Nova, dragging them to the dance off machine.

(A/N: y'all I can't remember if there was a dancing one😂)

"Who's up first?" I ask them, stepping on the small platform. I insert some quarters. Neither of them stepped up to challenge me. I huff, "Come on you wimps. Too scared to get beat by a girl?" I tease.

"Scared my ass." Nova growls, stepping up. "I'll beat you Matthews. Count on it."

Hmph.

"You can try."

I pick a character, and so does he. We insert our names, mine being Regina George. I press start, smirking proudly. A song starts playing and before you know it, the steps show up.

Up!

Down!

Left!

Right!

Down!

Up!

So far, I've gotten all the moves, and so has he. The pace picks up, but I don't miss a step. I step on the wrong square, and Nova laughs. I chortle, getting the next step correct.

Whatever. It's one mess up.

"Woo! Go Frost! Go Nova!" Kai cheers, clapping.

Down!

Left!

Up!

Up!

Right!

Down!

Left!

Left!

God this is like working out.

And I don't like it.

We step up to the screen, lightly panting. Gasp.

Nova beat me.

Only by like, one point. Sigh. It's the end of the world for me, I guess.

"Told you," he smirks, bowing. Kai laughs. "Nobody can beat me."

I roll my eyes, "Okay Mr. Ego. I challenge you to the jump rope game!" I grab him and drag him to the jump rope one.

"Hey Chip, can you show me how to do it?" I ask Kai. "I don't know how to do it, I've only seen people do it." I lie.

Ever since we got here, Kai hasn't gone to any of the games. He didn't even take anymore popcorn at the movies.

He smiles, "Sure!" he steps onto the mat. "So when you see the orange line, jump over before it goes past your feet. It does get faster though." he says, putting in the quarters.

An orange line appears, and it starts going around. Kai jumps, scoring a point. He keeps jumping, getting every point. He even did some tricks during the jumps.

And I can't even get one.

Once he finished and missed one, my mouth falls open. "50? How is that even possible?!"

He blushes, "I used to play this one growing up.."

I clap in approval, "Alright, my turn mister." I put in the quarters, and start jumping.

I reached twelve before I gave up. "That's way too hard. You don't even have to play to beat me." I say to Nova but my attention drifts to someone else.

Manon and Cole are at the claw machine. Cole hovers over her, smiling and telling her something. She nods and squeals as the claw picks up a cute tiger. She successfully drops it and yells in triumph. Cole claps, cheering. Pulling out the tiger, she throws her arms around him.

Ugh. They're so cute.

They run up to us, "Frost look! I finally won!" she beams and shows me.

"After so many years, I'm proud. Would you like a gold sticker? A medal for your such hard work? Want a certificate?" I tease with a grin. Nova snorts and raises his brows at me.

"You're a smart ass Matthews."

"Well, I'm not smart and I do have an ass.. so that makes me a dumb ass."

"Oh wow, you actually confirmed it." he smirks.

"Hey!" I punch his shoulder.

"Matthews wake up."

"Hnn kfd.." I pry my eyes open. I blink continually, clearing my vision. I tiredly look around.

"You fell asleep.." Nova whispers, unbuckling my seat belt. I try to fight the sleepiness but fail. My eyes droop and my head goes flying forward. Nova stops my head from hitting the seat again, with his hand.

"Wh.. where are the others?" I ask, yawning. He puts one arm under my legs and one behind my back. He picks me up bridal style.

"I already dropped them off.." he says, lifting me out of the car. He easily walks up my porch. I rest my head on him, yawning.

He knocks on my door, and it opens. "Oh hello Nova!" I hear my mom.

"Hello Mrs. Matthews," he says, making his chest rumble. I giggle at the ticklish feeling on my cheek.

"Oh call me Denisse, I don't mind. Come in," she says and he walks in. I fight against my drooping eyes.

I nuzzle my frozen nose in the crook of his neck, and he doesn't say anything. I close my eyes, the light was hurting them.

"Um, Frost fell asleep. She looked pretty tired so I thought I would bring her to her room.."

"Oh that is so sweet of you! Yeah, she doesn't like staying up late. She isn't much of a night owl." mom says.

"Me neither," he slightly chuckles, "So which room is hers?"

"The first one on the right,"

"Okay.."

My body bobs up and down as he walks up the stairs. "You.. you don't.. h.. have to do.. this.. unless you're trying to get me to leave.. you.. alone. 'Cause that's... not.. going to happen.." I mumble. I can already imagine him rolling his eyes.

"Be quiet Matthews."

I see the light flick on through my lids, and feel him set me down on my bed. I force my eyes open. I kick off my shoes, yawning. I wrap myself up, staring half awake at Nova.

"Good night." I smile at him, closing my eyes.

He gives me a half smile, "Night Matthews." he starts leaving, shutting my light off. I'm welcomed with darkness.

"I don't know if you're still here, but thank you for going.. I don't think it would've been as fun if you didn't go.." I say, barely able to hear myself.

It was silent for a few seconds.

"Thank you for letting me join."
