46 Estranged Ties and Ambitious Goals As Emma sat at her desk, she decided to place a call to her brother, Maxwell. The tension between them had been palpable since their last strained conversation.

“Always busy with work, aren’t you? You know, when I called this morning, you sounded free as a bird.

And now you’re swamped with work?” Maxwell’s voice carried a mix of sarcasm and concern.

Emma sighed, “Believe me, Maxwell, it’s been a hectic day. And about this morning, well, I guess I do care, more than I show.”

Maxwell laughed dryly. “Look at you, climbing the corporate ladder. From what I hear, you’re already making waves as the VP. Planning to fund my next world tour, are you?”

The hint of disbelief in his voice stung Emma. “I mean it, Maxwell. I want to support you, just like you’ve always supported me.”

A moment of silence passed before Maxwell spoke again. “Emma, remember how you pushed me away during your wedding preparations? Said you needed no help from me? That hurt more than you know.”

The regret in his voice was palpable, and Emma felt a twinge of guilt. “I know, and I’m sorry. I was blinded by… things I shouldn’t have been. But I’ve changed, Maxwell. I really have.”

Maxwell’s tone softened. “Well, if you’re sincere about this change, I suppose I can try to move past the old grudges. But I’m sure you didn’t call just to say ‘Hi.’ So, what’s up?”

Emma chuckled. Her brother always had a knack for getting straight to the point. “Actually, I heard about your upcoming tour. I… I’d like some front-row tickets. I want to be there for you this time, properly.”

There was a pause before Maxwell’s laughter filled the line. “You want front-row tickets? Why don’t you join the rest of the fans and fight for them?”

Despite his words, Emma knew her brother well. He’d act tough but would eventually give in to her request. They ended the call on a light note, and Emma couldn’t help but smile, feeling a bridge being rebuilt.

Her moment of respite was short-lived, however. Jada burst into her office, her expression a mix of frustration and urgency.

“It’s Nathan. He’s flat-out refusing to tender an apology for his misdemeanor. And Alex… he’s questioning our motives about the website statement, accusing us of stealing their development.”

Emma leaned back in her chair, her mind racing. “Ignore Nathan’s theatrics. As for Alex, tell him we’re playing by the rules of fair competition. If he’s got a problem, he knows where to find us.”
