âItâs all because of her! Sheâs the reason Everetts in this mess!â
if it wasnât for Jeffrey holding her back. Heather wouldâve already thrown herself at Dorntry without a
care for her ladyâlike image.
âEverett is being treated nght now. We can settle the score later!â
Seeing the onlookers, Jeffrey somehow managed to drag Heather away.
When he returned, he found Dorothy still standing in the same spot, the mark of a slap still visible on
her face.
With her delicate face, she looked somewhat pitiful, which only made him even angrier!
âWhy the hell are you still here?!â
Jeffrey already had a low opinion of Everettâs little assistant, thinking his buddy. Everett, was just going
through a phase, and once the novelty wore off, heâd have lost interest.
But after all that happened, he didnât even want to look at her
âEverett had an accident because of me?â
Dorothy had picked up on clues from their conversation, but she didnât know the whole story.
Wasnât Everett supposed to be with Heather? How was the accident related to her?
âTodayâs August 25th, didnât you know?â
Dorthy was silent.
Of course, she knew. So, what?
Jeffrey scoffed, âStop playing innocent! Think about what youâve done! Youâre already registered as
Everettâs wife, and youâre still flirting with other men! Darathy, youâve outdone yourself! Youâre the only
one who can cuckold Everett!â
Flining with other men?
âEverett found out about me bringing Mr. Nelson to the hospital?â
âIf you donât want anyone to know donât do itâ
1 can explainâ She had no idea her actions would have led to Everettâs accident! She wouldâve never
connected the dats if Jeffrey hadnât pointed it out
âJust get lost already. Leave now! Or I might break my rule about not hitting women,â
Leaving those words behind, Jeffrey walked away.
Dorothy was left alone in the bustling hallway, gently touching her swollen cheek. Her gaze never left
the red light of the emergency
room.
An hour passed. And then two hours passed.
Dorothy waited from dusk till dawn, but Everett never emerged, and there was no news about him.
Until Kevin called, âWhy did you miss the meeting this morning?â
When she tried to speak, she found her voice had gone hoarsel
âCan I take a day off today?
âIs it something imporant? Perhaps noticing Dorothyâs raspy voice, Kevin paused, âAll right, then come
early tomorrow.â
As he was about to hang up, Dorothy suddenly asked, âWait! Kevin, did Mr. Lopezâ¦come to work
today?â
âMr. Lopez? I Feard he had an accident and didnât come to the office today. But I just received a notice
that heâll be going on a business trip tonight as planned, so it must not be serious.â
âDid he call youhmself?
âYeah, why?â
Dorothy forced a smile, âOh, nothing. Thanks.â
So, Everett had already left the hospital, and she was the only fool waiting around!
She had been thinking about how to explain Kenneth to Everett all night, but it seemed unnecessary
then. He didnât need it.
