Being a divorcee, the news of Dorothyâs pregnancy and the birth of her daughter seemed like a natural
progression of events.
In truth, the moment Lane discovered the connection between Dorothy and Everett, he didnât need any
further proof.
The uncanny resemblance between father and daughter was so obvious that only a fool would fail to
see it.
Dorothy felt like her knees were about to buckle. She could put on a brave face at any time to appear
strong and invincible, but not when it came to her children
She couldnât let the Lopez family know about her daughter, let alone her son.
âWhat are you trying to achieve by telling me all this?â Dorothyâs eyes turned sharp and vigilant. She
looked at Lane as though he was a potential
threat.
Lane raised his hands in surrender, signaling her to calm down. âDonât jump to conclusions just yet.
Yesterday, I had a long chat with Jeffrey. He even asked me for a picture of your daughter, and I told
him I didnât have one.â
âYou have a picture of my daughter?â
Lane shrugged. âI donât have one on me, but if I wanted one, I could just check the security cameras at
the Dreamscape Hotel couldnât I?â
Dorothy was at a loss for words.
âBut I didnât do that. I even managed to curb Jeffreyâs curiosity and convince him not to tell Everett
about your child.â Lane tried to soothe her growing anxiety. âYou donât have to worry anymore. You
should know by now that Iâm on your sideâ
Dorothy knew he was probably telling the truth. Otherwise, with Jeffreyâs temperament, he would ve
confronted her by now
Everett might have even reached Everglow City by this time.
âSo, youâre pressing me for confirmation? Is that it?â Something told her there was more to this than
just curiosity or a simple interest in helping her.
âSomewhat.â Lane admitted with a small laugh. âWhen I found out about all this, I was actually quite
thrilled. I thought you were so in love with your husband that I wouldnât stand a chance. But now that I
know itâs all a fabrication, I see a window of opportunity to pursue you.â
Dorothy pressed her lips together and spoke in a stern tone, âI wonât accept anyoneâs pursuit, Lane. Iâm
telling you this straight so that you wonât waste your time on me.â
youâre worth the effort.â
âBut whether itâs a waste of time or not is for me to decide. I believe yo
âLane, I can tell you the outcome right now.â
Lane smirked lazily. âNo one can predict the future, not even you.â
âYou donât want to tell Everett about your child. There must be a reason, and Iâm guessing itâs because
thereâs an irreconcilable issue between the two of you. As long as that issue exists, you two are off the
table, which means I still have a chance.âLane cut her off as he leaned closer to her. âDonât rush to
reject me. I can keep your secret, and I promise that I will treat your daughter like she is mine. Everett
will never find out.â
He sounded like he was making a promise, but it felt more like a threat
Being a businessman, he knew how to manipulate a situation to his advantage, especially when he had
the upper hand
Dorothy had known Lane for some time now. Though they didnât have a lot of personal interaction, she
knew his tactics. He might look like a rich, carefree playboy who spent his days partying and
occasionally running his business, but the truth was, Lane had a firm grip on his companyâs
