Everett didn’t hang up. He simply listened quietly to Dorothy and Jeffery’s conversation.

He heard her refer to some other man as “my husband.”

every word Dorothy said was like a knife stabbing into Everett’s heart.

“It’s okay. She being happy is all that matters.” Everett’s voice didn’t betray any emotion, but Jeffrey

knew he was suppressing his feelings.

For years, a smile had been absent from Everett’s face. And Dorothy was to blame.

“She’s already marned, the whole company knows it. Everett, she’s so damn cold? She’s just plain

cruel! You should get married too! Marry Heather Why upset your parents over her?”
