Dorothy immediately denied it. âNo way!â
âDid your friend tell you whether this guy is any good in bed or not? If heâs all bark and no bite, forget
about it.â
Dorothy instinctively replied, âNot really.â
âDid your friend discuss this with you?â Karenâs eyes widened; she loved these spicy topics. âWhoâs the
friend? Donât beat around the bush.â
âAhâ¦you donât know her. Sheâs an old schoolmate of mine.â Dorothy, afraid of letting something slip,
quickly changed the topic. âBy the way, Iâve arranged a meeting with the person in charge of the
SinoSuccess Enterprises project today. Are you free?â
Karen hesitated, looking a bit troubled. âI canât today. The head office has transferred the
supplementary funds for Harmony Ventures. I have to go there.â
âThatâs okay. Iâll go alone.â
Dorothy tidied up a bit, printed out the list of third-party companies that Everett had emailed her,
compiled them into a folder, and then checked the time before heading out to the arranged meeting
place.
The person in charge of SinoSuccess Enterprises was a middle-aged man. Although he was a bit old,
he looked well-maintained and dressed stylishly. Plus, he spoke with a bit of an accent.
âWe canât shoulder all the risk for the third-party loans on behalf of the Prosperity Consortium, can we?â
His tone was tough from the
get-go.
Of course, he was well aware that their group needed this project.
Although the risk was high, the profit return was quite tempting.
âMr. Robert, reaching the amount stated in your investment guarantee letter is the contractual
responsibility of SinoSuccess Enterprises, isnât it?â Dorothy handed over the photocopy of the
guarantee letter with a smile. She carefully chose her words. âWe at the Prosperity Consortium have
certainly shown the greatest sincerity. We believe that SinoSuccess Enterprises would also want this
project to be successful, which is why Mr. Percy has come up with this solution.â
âHmph.â Mr. Robert didnât give her any dignity. He looked Dorothy up and down and then said, âSince
the final contract hasnât been signed, you guys at the Prosperity Consortium are making fun of our
guarantee amount. Perhaps I should just forget it. The Lopez Corporation is indeed very big, but
SinoSuccess Enterprises doesnât need to climb up this high tree.â
As he said this, he got up to leave.
Dorothy quickly stood up. âMr. Robert, please wait!
He did stop, but intentionally took a few steps forward, comering Dorothy in the corner of the restaurant
booth.
âHmm? Anything else?â
Dorothy frowned at his proximity; her alarm bells were ringing. She lowered her head and tried to find a
gap to dodge him.
But Mr. Robert caught her wrist, his smile turning sleazy. âYou told me not to leave, and now youâre
avoiding me? Whatâs the deal?â
âLet go!â She tried to pull away but couldnât match his strength.
âStill playing innocent? Fine, this place isnât great for business talks. Letâs go somewhere else.â
As he said this, he tried to forcibly pull her away.
In a panic, Dorothy didnât think twice and kicked him hard in the groin.
Mr. Robert immediately grimaced in pain and then slapped her hard across the face.
âYou bitch! Iâll kill you!â
This slap was full of force. Caught off guard, Dorothy crashed into the wall, her vision starting to blur.
But she knew she wasnât safe, so she tried to make her way out of the booth based on memory.
Suddenly, she felt strong hands wrapping around her from the front.
Instinctively, Dorothy tried to struggle, until Everettâs cool yet gentle voice came from beside her, like a
soothing illusion in the midst of
chaos.
âDonât be scared; donât be scared. Itâs me; Iâm here.â
Dorothyâs stubborn consciousness suddenly collapsed.
