As Sige stood outside the tavern lost in thought, faint footsteps approached from behind.
Someoneâs here?
Instantly, Sige erased all traces of hesitation from his face. As the "legendary Mountain Bandit King," maintaining dignity was paramountâespecially after his drunken theatrics. If the Red-Hair Pirates saw through his act now, it would spell disaster.
He cleared his throat and adopted a low, resonant tone. âYouâve come.â
Turning slowlyâa boss must never appear rushedâhe fixed his expression into stern impassivity. In a world where Observation Haki existed, sensing visitors through footsteps or aura was basic etiquette. Even without Haki, the facade had to hold.
The burden of maintaining a bossâs image is so heavyâ¦
Pride swelled brieflyâIâm a natural actorâuntil his gaze landed onâ¦
Empty air.
A soft âWoof!â drew his eyes downward. A small white wagged its tail cheerfully.
Sige: ââ¦â
Before embarrassment could sink in, the tavern door creaked open. Shanks stepped out, scratching his head.
âAh! There you are, Sige-san!â
Adjusting his demeanor, Sige replied coolly, âJust⦠reflecting on old memories. The night clears the mind.â
Shanks sighed. âLuffy snuck off and ate the Rubber Fruit while we were drinking. Now he canât swim. Maybe he should become a Mountain Bandit Kingâ¦â

Sige stiffened. He hadnât noticed the theft earlierâtoo busy safeguarding his act.
âPlenty of Devil Fruit users sail the seas,â he countered. âLosing the ability to swim teaches reliance on comrades. No one becomes Pirate King aloneânot even Roger.â
Shanks chuckled. âTrue⦠But with the Rubber Fruit gone, our plans in the East Blue are moot. Weâll set sail tomorrow. Shame we canât share more drinks.â
Tomorrow? Sige nearly broke character. Red-Hairs leaving? Thank the seas! Keeping up the charade around legends like Shanks was exhausting.
Forcing regret into his voice, Sige gazed solemnly at the stars. âA pity. Few remain who remember the old days.â
âOh, I wouldnât worry about that,â Shanks said cryptically, fishing a Den Den Mushi from his coat. âOur contacts in the Grand Line just relayed⦠interesting news.â

Elsewhere, on the Stormy Seas
A naval warship cleaved through midnight waves, its prow carved into a colossal dogâs head.
âToo slow! Speed up this ship!â roared Vice Admiral Garp, fists slamming the command table.
A sweat-drenched officer protested, âSir, weâre already at max speed! And⦠our mission in the East Blue isnât classified as urgentââ
âNOT URGENT?!â Garpâs shout rattled the windows. âYou sluggards! Canât you sense the storm brewing?!â
The crew froze. Had Fleet Admiral Sengoku issued a top-secret directive? Why else would the Hero of the Marines rush to the weakest sea?
Garp leaned forward, eyes blazing. âRed-Hair Shanks has been spotted in Windmill Village.â
A collective gasp. âAre we⦠engaging a Yonko?!â
âHah! Shanks is childâs play!â Garp boomed. âMy grandson Luffy lives there! That red-haired foolâs gonna corrupt him!â
The officers blinked. This was the crisis?
âWorse!â Garp slammed a fist, cracking the table. âLuffyâs seven now! SEVEN!â
ââ¦Sir?â
âSEVEN MEANS HEâS A MAN!â Garp declared. âTime to train him into the Navyâs finest!â
The room plunged into horrified silence. Memories of Garpâs brutal training regimensâwith a 90% dropout rateâflashed through every officerâs mind.
One brave soul dared, âSir, even adult recruits canât survive your methodsâ¦â
âRECRUITS?!â Garp looked genuinely offended. âLuffyâs my blood! Heâll get a routine TEN TIMES TOUGHER!â
As the crew silently prayed for Luffyâs soul, Garp grinned, cracking his knuckles. âGonna forge that boy into steel!â
