Mamie was in high spirits, having indulged in her fair share of wine.
Yet, her tolerance remained the same as it had been four years prior.
She couldnât handle her liquor, but insisted on drinking.
Eventually, she passed out, sprawled across the table.
Ivan shook his head in resignation, âThatâs just how she is, gets carried away when sheâs having a good time.â
Agnes retorted, âKnowing Mamie canât handle her booze, why didnât you step in?â
Ivan sighed, âItâs okay. Sheâs been feeling down lately. Itâs good to see her let loose and have some fun, even if it ends with her drunk.â
Agnes wanted to probe further into what had been bothering Mamie. But when her gaze met Jaredâs, he subtly shook his head, signaling her not to ask.
Understanding his gesture, Agnes refrained from asking.
The dinner was coming to an end. Before they parted ways, Ivan turned to Agnes, saying, âNext time, let me meet your son. Seeing how proud Jared is, Iâm growing curious about this little whiz kid.â
Agnes chuckled, âWhiz kid, huh? Iâd rather he just be ordinary and happy, to be honest.â
Ivan nodded in agreement, âGoing to stay here in Manhattan?â
Agnes pondered, âIâm not sure yet.â
Ivan looked slightly disappointed, âIf you could stay, Mamie would be delighted. Sheâd finally have someone she could talk to.â
Agnes nodded, âIâll consider it.â
Ivan drove Mamie home. And Agnes got into the car with Jared.
Jared was driving, but he remained silent throughout the journey. Sensing the tension, Agnes asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
Jared finally voiced his concern, âSo, youâre planning on staying in Manhattan?â
So that was it.

ï¤Chapter 729 Forever in the Past and Forever in the Future Agnes replied, âI need to think it over carefully.â
âWhatâs there to think about? You should come back home now. Surely, weâre not planning on living separately after we remarry?â
âBut Jared, I have my career in Manhattan.â
Jared fell silent hearing it.
Agnes continued, âI love journalism, I love this job, and my life is in Manhattan. I canât just drop everything at a momentâs notice. I need time to think it over.â
Agnes had never considered moving back home. Only a month ago, she was making every effort to avoid Jared. But she hadnât expected this trip to spark so much change in her life.
Returning home would require considering many factors.
Her career was one thing, but the most critical factor was Nocturneâs sickness.
Jared fell silent for a moment before proposing, âThen Iâll go to Manhattan and live with you.â
âHow can you do that? What about your company, your sister, and your father?â
Jared seemed somewhat petulant, âI canât stand being apart any longer. If you canât come back to live with me, then Iâll come to where you are, Agnes, for the rest of our lives, you wonât be able to shake me off.â
Seeing Jaredâs worry, Agnes felt a pang in her heart. She said earnestly, âGive me some time to think it over. I will come back, but not necessarily right now. I need to find the right time. Besides, I doubt your sister and father would accept me right now, right?â
Jaredâs brows furrowed, âI donât care whether they accept you or not.â
Agnes said, âJared, I want to see them again. I was wrong in the past, and I want to apologize to your sister.â
