The cool boy patted her head. âYouâre so silly, Mommy. Youâll turn ugly if you keep crying.â He sounded like he was going to cry, yet his voice was still very gentle.
On the other hand, the cute boy started crying loudly. âI donât want to leave you, Mommy. But I know that we cannot stay.â
Kathleen shook her head vigorously. âNo! What can I do to make the two of you stay with me?
Please tell me.â
âForget about it, Mommy. You should leave that man if you want to be happy,â the cool boy said.
The cute one nodded. âYeah.â
Kathleen looked at them blankly, tears rolling down her cheeks.
The two young boys stepped away from her.
They clasped their hands together and waved her goodbye.
Seconds later, they disappeared from her sight.
âNo! Donât go! Iâm begging you. Please donât go!â Kathleen knelt on the ground and screamed.
However, no matter how much she pleaded, her precious children were gone.
They were gone and left her for good.
Kathleen burst into tears, her agonized wails echoing through the room.
It was all my fault! I shouldnât have married Samuel. My little boys came into existence full of excitement and happiness, but they had to leave in utter disappointment. I donât care how Samuel treats me. However, my babies are innocent. They are innocent!
âIâm so sorryâ¦â Kathleen was racked with guilt.
Suddenly, a bright light flashed in front of her.
As she slowly regained consciousness, she opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling.
Am I not dreaming anymore? Is this reality? My babies are gone.
Then, Samuelâs husky voice echoed from beside her. âKate, youâre awake! Youâve been unconscious for three days. Do you feel unwell?â
Disgust surged in Kathleenâs heart when she heard his voice.
She grabbed a fistful of the blanket and asked, âWhere are my babies?â
Samuel paused for a moment before replying, âTheyâ¦â
Kathleen scoffed coldly as she gave him a sidelong glance.
There were hints of dejection in Samuelâs expression. When he saw the strange smile on Kathleenâs face, he frowned.
âNow that Nicoletteâs leukemia has been cured and my children are gone, the two of you no longer have any obstacles standing in your way. You can be happy together now and stop causing misery for others.â Kathleen scoffed.
Her eyes were filled with coldness and despair.
Samuelâs brows knitted into a deeper frown. âWhat on earth are you talking about? I canât just abandon you.â
âYou donât have to pretend to be a nice guy. Isnât this all part of your plan, Samuel? You suddenly started treating me nicely and even retracted your decision to divorce me. But it was just so I would lower my guard against you. You hired Sarah to protect me, but your real intention was to have her drug me and land me in the hospital. That way, your lover will be able to get my bone marrow!
Everything had been meticulously planned by you!â
âI didnât make Sarah do that. She made that decision herself,â Samuel replied sternly.
Kathleen gritted her teeth. âEveryone knows what a heavy price they would have to pay if they disobeyed you. Would she have dared to drug me if you hadnât ordered her to? Would anyone in the hospital have the guts to?â
Samuel fell silent and did not utter a word.
Ever since I found out about everything, I knew it would come to this. I knew Kathleen would hate me because of her children. She didnât tell me about her pregnancy because she didnât trust me.
âPlease calm down. The doctor said that you must not get agitated. You have to take good care of yourself and recuperate. Otherwise, your health will continue to suffer.â
Kathleen let out a sarcastic laugh. âHaha! Youâre right. There is always a risk of leukemia coming back. When that time comes, I still have to donate my bone marrow to your beloved.â
Samuel frowned and gazed at her sadly. âKathleen, can you please not speak to me like that?â
âIf you hate the way I speak or donât want to listen to me, you can leave. Stop wasting time caring for me and worry about Nicolette instead. Get out! I donât want to look at you.â Kathleen felt completely exhausted.
Samuel grimaced. âKathleen.â
âGet out! Scram! I donât want to see you. I donât want to see the person who caused my children to die!â
Samuel froze when he heard her words.
Is she saying that I was the one who killed them?
Right at that moment, Wynnie entered the room.
Frowning, she turned to Samuel and said, âLeave, Samuel. Are you trying to drive her to her grave?â
Samuel felt his heart squeeze painfully. âTake care of her on my behalf, Mom.â
With that, he spun on his heel and left.
Soon after, Kathleenâs heart-wrenching wails sounded from inside the ward.
Samuelâs eyes were slightly reddened as well.
He stormed over to Nicoletteâs ward, practically shaking with rage.
There, Nicolette was lying in bed, looking a lot better than before.
The doctor had informed her that her white blood cell count was almost back to normal, and she would be able to get discharged soon.
Nicolette was overjoyed at the news.
I didnât expect Kathleenâs bone marrow to be such a good match. If I had known, I would have taken it way earlier. She also lost her children, but I guess it doesnât matter. Itâs just a baby. I can give birth to one for Samuel; Kathleen doesnât need to go through the trouble. However, itâs been a few days since Samuel returned, but he hasnât come to visit me even once. He hasnât even appeared anywhere. Iâm kind of worried. Sarah and everyone else who was involved in that incident had been captured by Samuel. Theyâre in a dire situation right now. But even if they die, I wonât be too worried because I finally have a healthy body. Right now, I need to focus on capturing Samuelâs heart and becoming Mrs. Macari.
Just then, she heard footsteps from outside.
The door was pushed open, and Samuel came in with a gloomy expression on his face.
âSamuel! Youâre here! I thought you had forgotten about me.â Nicolette gazed at him expectantly.
However, he stared back at her indifferently. âWhy did you use my name to do that?â
Nicolette replied unhappily, âItâs because they wouldnât help me if I said it was my decision.â
âIf thatâs the case, you should know that I didnât give you permission to harm her,â Samuel spat coldly.
âWhy are you so upset, Samuel?â Nicolette pouted at him. âI know I was wrong, and I should have told you. But I just did my treatment, so my entire body hurts. I really donât feel well.â
Samuelâs eyes darkened as he continued to stare at her.
Nicolette felt even more aggrieved. âAnd how was I supposed to know she was pregnant? She didnât say so. Moreover, she kept it from you even though you were about to divorce her. She obviously wanted to use the child as a trump card! Now that she lost her child, she can forget about it. Weâll just give her more money as compensation.â
Samuel looked at her coldly and asked, âDo you think that this incident will end just like that?â
âHow else would it end?â Nicolette puffed her cheeks. âI can kneel and beg for her forgiveness.
Thatâll do it, right?â
Samuel remained silent.
âThink about it, Samuel. Sheâs the one who broke us up, but I didnât take revenge against her. She has been with you for three years. Isnât that more than enough? Itâs even better that she didnât have kids. It would be easier for the two of you to sever ties after the divorce.â
Samuelâs eyes suddenly darkened. Glaring at her coldly, he reached out and grabbed Nicoletteâs wrist. âDo you think this is a small matter? That was my child!â
âWhy are you so angry, Samuel? Itâs just a child. I can give birth to as many children as you want,â
she replied softly.
