âKathleen?â Samuel frowned. Why is she covered in blood? âAre you hurt?â Samuel walked to her, stretching his hands to touch her. âGet lost!â Kathleen shoved his hands away. âDonât use the same pair of hands that touched your mistress on me!â Samuelâs face was a mix of dark emotions. âWhat do you want, Kathleen?â Nicoletteâs face turned pale. âKathleen, I know youâre unwilling to divorce Samuel. But he has already promised to compensate you. You shouldnât be too greedy.â Kathleen walked over and picked up a fruit knife. âKathleen! What are you trying to do?â Samuel walked over.
âStop there!â Kathleen clenched her jaws and lifted the knife in front of her. âSamuel, stay where you are!â Samuel paused in his actions, and his face darkened. âPut the knife down!â âYouâre in no capacity to order me around!â Kathleenâs eyes reddened. âYou have no idea what I went through!â
Samuel frowned again. âBenjamin is severely injured for saving me and is lying unconscious in the hospital ward.â Kathleenâs lips trembled. âThe person who wanted to hurt me is sent by either you or her. But Iâve already agreed to the divorce, Samuel. Since it canât be you, it can only be her.â
âNonsense!â Nicoletteâs face was pale white. âWhy would I do that?â âYou know it deep down in your heart. Samuel would be widowed once Iâm dead, and you can marry him officially.â Kathleen gritted her teeth. âYou donât have any evidence! Moreover, how could you think that itâs me? It might be your enemies!â Nicolette retorted. âHaha!â Kathleen sneered, and her eyes turned cold. âNicolette, Iâve been living in the shelter Samuel built for me since I graduated from university. I have no contact with anyone else. Other than his grandma and mother, Iâm all alone. How can I possibly have enemies?â Nicolette pouted her lips. So Samuel has been so protective of her? âEven if we assume itâs Samuelâs enemies, not many know that Samuel and I are married. On the other hand, he has been visiting you openly at the hospital recently. If his enemies wanted to take revenge, they should be looking for you, not me.â Kathleenâs eyes remained indifferent. âNicolette, in this whole world, only you would hate me to this extent and want me dead!â âN-No, itâs not me!â Nicolette was frightened out of her wits, and her face was bloodless. âSamuel, save me!â Samuel focused his gaze on Kathleen. âPut the knife down.â âSamuel, letâs get divorced.â Kathleen looked at him sorrowfully. âIâll grant both of you your wishes.â She lowered her hand gradually and threw away the fruit knife in her hand, walking out of the room. Samuelâs eyes were full of worry while looking at her.
She mentioned that Benjamin got hurt for saving her. The blood all over her must be Benjaminâs. If itâs hers, the consequences would be unimaginable. Samuel ran after her. âKathleen!â He stretched his hand to grab Kathleenâs wrist. However, he did not expect Kathleen to faint the moment he touched her. âKathleen!â Samuel immediately carried her in his arms and dashed into the doctorâs office. By the time Kathleen woke up, it was nightfall. âYouâre awake.â Samuelâs voice was deep and cold. âHow are you feeling?â âIâm fine.â Kathleen held onto the blanket. âThe doctor said that you fainted as you were too agitated, and your emotions fluctuated too much. Youâll be fine after resting a night.â Samuelâs voice sounded detached. âYou shouldnât be here.â Kathleen pursed her lips. âIf I shouldnât be here, where should I be then?â Samuel frowned. âKathleen, Iâm not as heartless as you think. Even if I donât love you, youâre grandmaâs savior. I have the responsibility to take care of you.â
Kathleen mocked at herself dolefully, âSo you only treated me as Grandmaâs savior.â He has never looked at me as his wife. âWhy didnât you come to the City Hall today?â Kathleenâs voice trembled. âI already agreed to the divorce.â âLetâs talk about this some other time.â Samuel was seemingly avoiding the question. âYouâre still hoping that I can donate my marrow to Nicolette, arenât you?â
Kathleen asked callously. Samuel did not respond. âI will not donate.â She would rather be dead than agree to it. Nicolette must have sent the killer. She wants me dead. My baby and I would be dead now if it wasnât for Benjamin. How could I donate my bone marrow to her? She was determined to keep to her decision. âIf we do not get divorced, will you donate to her?â Samuel asked suddenly. âNo, we will definitely be divorced.â Kathleen closed her eyes. âI donât want to continue living with you. Even if we continue our marriage, your heartâs with another woman. Why would I want a marriage thatâs only in name?â Kathleen was clear-minded and understood that when love was gone, it was gone for good. There was no use no matter how she tried salvaging it.
Samuel said coldly, âKathleen, youâd better take your time to consider this carefully.â âWhatâs the matter? Do you think that Iâll compromise just like this?â Kathleen sneered sarcastically. âYouâre as fearsome as the rumors say, Mr. Macari.â âKathleen!â Samuel clenched his jaws. âIâve said it! We can continue to be married. I just need you to donate your marrow to Nicolette.â âSamuel, arenât you too full of yourself? Did you think I would tolerate anything after loving you blindly for so many years?â Kathleen sat up straight, and her eyes were dull. âIf Nicolette did not come back, Iâll donate to whoever you ask me to, but not her.â Samuel stood up. âKathleen, I would have been together with Nicolette long ago if it wasnât for you. You stole three years of our time.â A piercing pain shot through Kathleenâs heart. She lifted her head with her eyes filled with tears and laughed. âStole?
Samuel, Iâm speechless at your behavior. If you had resisted in the first place, you might have got together with her long ago. How did everything become my responsibility?â She came to a realization. In Samuelâs opinion, it was all her fault. She was the culprit for separating them. âIâve made my stand clear that I will not donate.â Kathleenâs heart went cold. âMr. Macari, you can try pulling your tricks on me and see what you can get out of me.â Samuel was shocked. He had always thought that Kathleen was soft and undemanding. In his eyes, she had no character or temper and was always gentle and obedient. She had worshipped him like he was God, always admiring him starry-eyed regardless of what he said. He loved the admiration. However, he only realized today that it was not that Kathleen did not have a character or temper. It was simply because she hid them well. âI donât want to see you anymore.â Kathleen turned her head away.
Samuelâs eyes darkened. âKathleen, is that man so important to you? You even picked up a knife for him.
