Kathleen furrowed her brows.
Samuel noticed the changes in her expression and said teasingly, âIâm just joking.â
It was then that Kathleen let out a sigh of relief.
âHowever, there is no need for you to worry.â Samuel lowered his gaze and said, âSome relationships canât be recovered. If they could, you wouldnât have left me.â
You left so heartlessly, and you never returned.
Upon hearing that, Kathleen bit her lip. âThey are your blood relatives.â
Sooner or later, they will forgive you.
Samuel glanced to the side. âKathleen, you donât have to worry about me. Iâm prepared to die alone.â
There was a short pause before Kathleen responded, âYou wonât die alone.â
Samuel looked at her pointedly and questioned, âWhy do you say that?â
âYou already know the answer. You donât have to ask,â Kathleen shot him and emotionless glance.
However, he was indeed clueless.
âEnjoy your meal.â She did not want to continue the conversation. After she said that, she turned around and left.
She actually wanted to tell Samuel that he still had Nicolette by his side.
No matter what, as time passes, everybody will forget whatever Nicolette has done. When that happens, Samuel will definitely bring her back, and the two of them will get to be together openly. Why must he play the pity card in front of me?
Kathleen quickly retired to the kitchen.
Mila saw her come in. She peered at her and asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
âNothing.â Kathleen pursed her lips. âMdm. Hunt, how many more dishes do I have to serve?â
âWe only have the dessert left. Itâll be done soon,â Mila replied with a smile.
âOkay.â Kathleen nodded, still in deep thought.
After a while, John entered the kitchen. âKate, Mr. Macari has left.â
He left?
Kathleen was momentarily stunned when she heard that.
She got to her feet and exited the kitchen.
Samuelâs seat was indeed empty.
As she got closer, she found that he had indeed finished his plate of mac and cheese.
Why did he eat so fast? Didnât he say that he canât eat fast because of his weak stomach?
Just then, she spotted a note under the plate.
To Kathleen: The mac and cheese was delicious. Thank you. I am unsure why you got angry when I said that I would die alone. I wasnât blaming you. I just didnât want you to misunderstand. I chose to be alone.
It has nothing to do with anyone. From: Samuel.
Haha!
Kathleen crumpled the note. He says he doesnât blame me, but I think he does! Why else would he leave a note?
âKate, whatâs the matter?â Just then, Wynnie walked over to her.
Kathleen was stunned for a moment, but she quickly put away the note and shook her head. âNothing,â
she said.
Wynnie patted Kathleen on the shoulder. âDonât let him get to you. Heâs been really ill-tempered this past year. We donât want to be bothered by him anymore.â
âMrs. Macari.â Kathleen hesitated for a moment and said, âSamuel is an adult. Heâs free to be with whoever he wants.â
Hearing that, Wynnie cast a meaningful gaze at her. âIf he dates Nicolette, are you fine with that?â
Kathleen was taken aback. âThereâs nothing between us anymore.â
In other words, she was implying that Samuel was free to date anyone, and she had no right to stop him.
Wynnie sighed softly and said, âWell then, heâll just stay single.â
Kathleen was at a loss for words.
She was of the opinion that Wynnie and the others would compromise eventually.
After all, they couldnât bear to see Samuel alone.
âWhy donât you introduce a girl to him?â Kathleen said coldly.
Wynnie did not know how to react.
âIâ¦â Kathleen muttered awkwardly.
âNo way.â Wynnie shook her head. âI canât accept anyone else as my daughter-in-law.â
Kathleen flushed.
After the meal, everybody got ready to leave.
Kathleen walked them to the exit.
Emily smiled as she asked her, âKate, when are you going to visit us?â
After a short pause, Kathleen uttered, âIâ¦â
Just then, Charles came to Kathleenâs rescue. âMs. Staines, weâll visit when we have the time.â
âSure!â Emily flashed him a smile. âIâll be waiting.â
With that, Emily got into the car.
Then, Aaron got into the driverâs seat and left with her.
Kathleen turned to Diana. âGoodbye, Grandma.â
Diana smiled softly. âDo visit often. That house will forever be your home.â
âOkay.â Kathleen nodded.
Calvin, Wynnie, and Diana got into the car and left.
After that, Kathleen turned to Charles and Christopher. âIâve got a show to record. You two should leave first.â
âOkay, we wonât bother you,â Christopher replied with a grin.
Kathleen didnât say anything to Charles. She merely turned around and reentered the shop.
Charles looked rather abashed. âMy sister is angry.â
âKate is not a petty person.â Christopher chuckled.
âYes, she is. Sheâs mad that I came without informing her. Not to mention, I came with you,â Charles elaborated, feeling upset.
Christopher responded, âYou can just explain it to her in the future.â
âMr. Morris, you certainly areâ¦â After a momentâs hesitation, Charles went on, âIf you were as thick-
skinned as Samuel, my sister would have fallen for you a long time ago.â
His words caught Christopher by surprise.
âLook at how good Samuel is at using reverse psychology and playing the pity card to gain Kathleenâs favor today!â Charles growled, âHe knows that my sister has a soft heart.â
That b*stard! He is pulling all his despicable tricks to make Kathleen fall for him again.
Christopher said coldly, âKate might know what heâs up to.â
âSo what if she knows?â Charles shot Christopher a strange look. âYou should take more initiatives.â
Christopher explained, âKate has repeatedly told me that she is not interested in dating at the moment. If I ignore her feelings and continue making my moves on her, she might grow to hate me.â
Charles observed him solemnly. âYou are such a gentleman.â
In the end, your thoughtfulness would be a wasted effort, and youâll regret it!
Emily called Christopher in the car.
âHave you left the restaurant?â She smiled faintly. âI thought you would wait until the recording ends and invite Kate to grab a bite.â
Christopher replied, âNo, sheâs exhausted.â
âAs an elder, I know I shouldnât intervene in your affairs, young man.â Emily grinned and said, âI trust you can settle it on your own.â
With that, she ended the call.
Just then, Aaron mumbled coldly, âKathleen doesnât like Christopher.â
Emily replied calmly to that, âI know. Iâve seen how Kathleen looked like when she was in love with Samuel. Samuel used to be her whole world.â
âSince you know that she doesnât like Christopher, why are you telling everyone that she is Christopherâs fiancée?â Aaron expressed his displeasure.
Right then, Emilyâs phone beeped.
Glancing at the screen, she said, âKathleen just sent me a text and explained everything. You are the one overthinking things and jumping to conclusions.â
Aaron snorted in response.
âBesides, canât you tell that your son really likes Kathleen?â Emily said solemnly, âChristopher was the one who announced Kathleen as his fiancée. Even Kathleen was clueless.â
âShe was clueless? Then, why didnât she come clean?â Aaron frowned.
âWell, what do you expect her to say?â She said coldly, âYour son made the announcement. If she clears things up, it will ruin the Morris familyâs reputation. If that happens, youâll blame her for being ungrateful.â
âNo, I wonât.â Aaron felt speechless. âIâm just worried about our son. I donât want him to be deceived.â
âI know, so I donât want to bicker with you.â Emily said softly, âOur son really likes her. It doesnât matter whom she had been married to as long as our son likes her.â
