William lowered his head and continued reading. From time to time, he stretched out his hand to hold her hand to play with it.
Alice was tied to a chair and she didn't know if they could be considered to have made up like this.
A long time later.
Alice said, "My legs are numb."
William sat on the ground and placed the book on his lap. He reached out his hands to massage her legs.
Alice could not help but raise her leg and kick him. William pressed down her leg and chided, "Don't flirt with me when I'm this busy."
How could she be flirting with him? Alice felt a headache, "I'm not feeling well sitting here, release me."
After that, William tied her up on the bed and made her lie down, but she still couldn't walk freely.
"William, I'm hungry."
Alice said.
William ran out like an arrow that had left the bow. Not long later, he brought over all sorts of delicious food to personally feed her.
Alice knew that it was impossible for him to release her in a short period of time, so she could only allow him to feed her.
She sat on the bed, William sat on the edge of the bed and placed an ancient book on her lap as he fed her.
Alice swallowed a prawn and said, "Right now, you are arguing with your brother. It's fine if he keeps the status quo, but if you fight with him, won't that harm mother?"
Elizabeth was not in a good condition.
She had endured Master Cullen's death for four years. If she knew that William was currently thinking of a way to make David leave, the situation would become even worse.
William withdrew his gaze from the book and looked at her. "So I have to take this position in a right way."
If he got it, then William would be in charge of everything of Cullen Family and give up the things that he liked.
"Then how long are you planning to fight for it?"
Alice asked.
"It won't take long." William fed a prawn into Alice's mouth.
"Why?"
Alice asked, puzzled.
"Once the engagement is successful, and another family is involved, we will not be able to turn back." William said. He extended his hand and wiped her mouth, and continued to feed her, "Is it hot?"
So David was in such a hurry to get engaged because he didn't want to give William too much time to think of a way to obtain his position.
Alice looked at him, "When that day comes, what will you do?"
"That day?" William looked at her, "I don't know."
There were very few things that William did not know about, this time, he was truly at a loss.
She sat there silently, allowing William to feed her.
Cullen Family was trapped in a dead end, and they were all in the middle of it, unable to avoid it.
Was there a way to David and William escape the bindings of their family's fate, and at the same time, prevent Elizabeth's condition from deteriorating? Wait a minute.
Elizabeth?
Alice's eyes immediately lit up. That's right, how could she forget Elizabeth?
"William, can we start from mother?" Alice looked at William.
"What do you mean?"
William fed her.
"Mother has been suffering for four years because of father's death. She has a mental problem, but recently, due to your brother's return, her condition has improved a lot." Alice said, "Can you use her as a breakthrough point? If she can understand that her sons are more important than the reputation of Cullen Family, then you and your brother don't have to be so tired."
This was the happy ending.
Not at the cost of someone's life.
William's face darkened.
"What, am I wrong?" Alice replied with a question, "We have always been conflicted over who should be responsible. Why don't we think of ways to change Mother's mind?"
"How? She has always listened to my father and she values his last wishes more than anything else." William said in a deep voice. If his mother could change her mind that easily, why would David listen to her?
That night, in front of Master Cullen's coffin, he and David both felt that something was wrong with their mother. They consulted with a shrink who told them that now they could only obey Elizabeth.
Now, any objection to father's last wish was a provocation.
"There will always be a way." Alice said seriously, "Let me think, I will definitely think of something."
"Eat your food first before you think about it!"
William ordered her and continue feeding her.
"Can you untie me and let me eat myself?" Alice felt very uncomfortable being fed.
"I think it's fun to feed you like this."
"I've been getting annoyed recently, so don't take away my only pleasure."
His only pleasure was tying her up and feeding her? Why did she feel like a pet? Luckily, William was still not completely paranoid. After enjoying the pleasure of feeding her, he set her free, but he set a rule that she had to be no more than two metres away from him.
She needed to take a leave to go to the toilet, to take a bath, and taking a walk was not allowed. It was just that simple.
As the date for the engagement ceremony approached, William's worries became more and more intense. David's smile also became more and more fake, but the Cullen Family was filled with an atmosphere of joy.
In the study room, William and David were discussing things. Alice sat alone at the side, reading Master Cullen's life stories, trying to find out something.
However, she didn't know what she was looking for.
Elizabeth was stubborn about Master Cullen. If she wanted to have a breakthrough, she should start from Master Cullen. She tried very hard to study Master Cullen's deeds.
When William turned his head around, he saw Alice lying on the ground, seriously reading a book. Her eyes were squinting. William walked over to Alice to pull her up, "Stop reading, your eyes have become smaller everyday!"
There was no point in reading all this every day.
Alice could only sit upright.
"You're still studying father's life?" William asked, "Even if you succeed, it won't change anything."
"All these deeds are about Father's accomplishments. It is indeed not very useful."
Alice said.
"Then what do you want to know?"
David smiled at her. Only when he was with William and Alice did his smile become sincere.
"His romantic story with mother."
Alice spoke honestly as she felt that these were the most useful things.
"You can't be trying to get spirit for your cartoon from my parents, right?" David thought that Alice wanted to draw a caricature.
"Unfortunately, none of you nobles value this sort of thing."
Alice said.
"Even if they did, they wouldn't get someone else to write it down." William ordered her in a domineering tone, "Close your eyes."
Alice sat there and closed her eyes obediently. With a ugly face, William massaged the area around her eyes.
This was the first time David saw his overweeningly proud little brother do such a thing.
William rubbed around Alice's eyes. Alice was still fumbling on the table with her eyes closed, said, "I've discovered that father has really dedicated his entire life to Cullen Family, he practically doesn't have any private time of his own."
"Father is such a person."
David said as he sat there.
"Then Father didn't squeeze out any time for Mother?" Alice asked.
"Do you really want to see it that badly?" William said while rubbing Alice.
"Yes." Alice said, "I want to do something, I want to make it up."
Only now did David understand that Alice's investigations were carried out for him. William and Alice were both running around for him.
"I thought you wouldn't be so stubborn after two days, since you want to see it so much, I'll look for Charles later." William said coldly.
Alice's eyes lit up, "What do you mean? Is there really such a book?"
"Of course not. It is the housekeeper who records the daily life of the master and makes it into a book." William said, "Close your eyes."
"Great."
She might find something from it.
"Close your eyes!"
"Oh."
William continued to rub her eyes. Sitting there, David suddenly realized that he was not needed, so he stood up and said. "Alright, I'll go back."
William ignored him.
David walked outside and after walking two steps, he stopped and looked towards William, "William, Alice, please do not do anything else for me. The engagement date is just around the corner, why don't you two think about what to wear?"
With that, David left the study and walked out. A servant came over and bowed to him, "Eldest Young Master, the clothes for the engagement ceremony have been delivered, please try it on."
Hearing that, David could not help but laugh.
Just now, he let William and Alice think about what they should wear, and now it was his turn to try on.
"There's no need to try it on. Whatever you think is good will be fine. I'm tired, I'm going back to my room to rest." David turned around and left, then turned back to the servant and said, "Tell my mother that I have already tried it on."
"Yes, Eldest Young Master."
The servant nodded.
David walked back to his room alone, looking exhausted. He closed the door, took off his jacket and threw it on the bed.
The entire room was filled with paintings, on the walls and on the floor.
But only by staying in such a room could he feel at ease.
David squatted in front of a painting, his grey eyes looked at the oil painting and he caressed the painting.
It was a very beautiful oil painting. Flaming clouds could be seen on top of it. The multicolored light illuminated the vast expanse of red cloud.
"I'm getting engaged."
For a long time, he said.
The room was silent. No one replied to him.
"Do you blame me?" David asked, "If you do, then let me live a longer life. If you don't, then let me live a shorter life."
Still no one responded to him.
Only his voice, so lonely, so sad.
