Miller?
Alice gazed at Patrick, and she wanted to believe in what Patrick had said.
Because in the past, she trusted Patrick so much that she felt that if she didn't believe in him, everyone in the world could not be trust. Because he was Patrick who she had looked after for so many years.
Gentle, polite and kind.
But how was she going to deceive herself? At the same time that something happened to Browns, did something happen to William as well? There was no connection at all between her and Patrick. Everything had nothing to do with Patrick.
"Then what about Miller?"
Alice asked.
Patrick observed Alice's expression, "According to the rules, I have already killed him, along with his subordinates."
"No proof?"
Alice said, her white lips trembling.
It was too late.
It was too late for her, or for anything.
"I have already recorded Miller's evidence, you can look at it any time. Do you not trust my abilities?" Patrick lowered his gaze and stared at her. He paused for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Alice, who do you think was the person who tried to save uncle?
Was this some sort of test?
He was trying to see if the people who had rescued them were people that William had sent to inform her.
For the first time, Alice started to ponder over the meaning that Patrick said. She shook her head, "I don't know, how would I know? I only know that my father is dead, and we didn't even met each other for a year. I want to cry, but I can't cry."
By the end, Alice's voice was stuck in her throat, unable to complete the sentence.
Patrick looked at her in pain, then pulled her into his embrace and patted her back lightly, "Alright, alright, stop crying if you can't. I will always be with you, Alice."
Alice did not push him away as she leaned on his shoulder. Her body was trembling extremely badly and her hands and feet were cold.
Mary stood at the side accompanying Beverly, raising her eyes to look at the two who were embracing each other. She silently lowered her eyes, and did not make any noise or ruckus.
The funeral continued.
There were quite a lot of people from Browns who came in droves as they walked into the church and bowed towards Xavier's body. They were all very respectful and obedient to Patrick.
Everyone advanced in batches.
Alice and Beverly stood by the side with a candlestick in each of their hands. The mourners came forward with trash in their hands and held a white candle.
The church was full of candles.
The nuns kept chanting, hoping that God would pity Xavier.
Beverly was extremely grieved, but she also couldn't lose her manner. She could only force herself to swallow her grievances.
Alice stood by her side, both hands holding a pure gold candlestick. But for some reason, she didn't shed a single tear.
The number of candles on the ground was still increasing at a visible rate.
The lights of the church were not bright. The candles on the ground were flickering with countless candles.
The funeral procedure was long and complicated.
"Bam."
A loud noise came from beside Alice. Beverly suddenly faint and fall onto the ground, and the candle in her hand was thrown to the side.
The entire audience went into an uproar.
Everyone widened their eyes in shock as they looked over.
Alice lowered her eyes to look at her unconscious mother, and she discovered that she was not surprised at all.
On the contrary, she was the calmest of them all. She stopped someone from forcefully grabbing her mother and calmly said, "No one should touch her. Ask the doctor to come over."
"Yes, Miss."
Beverly fainted because of being too agitated.
Patrick carried Beverly to her bedroom. Alice rejected his escort and said indifferently, "Patrick, you go and busy with the funeral. I want to accompany my mother."
"Alright." Patrick did not insist and gave Alice a box of pills, "Take this medicine and try to calm your mind. Aunt has been depressed slightly, so when she wakes up, let her eat it. It will make her feel better."
"Thank you."
Alice said.
"Then I'll be going out. You should get some rest as well."
Patrick said, walking out, and extended his hand to pull the door. But he could not help but look inside.
Alice stood in front of the bed, her fingers tightly clutching the bottle of medicine. Under her jet - black hair, there was not a single emotion on her face.
The current Alice was like a puppet. Her eyes were lifeless and empty, without a trace of a soul. When she drew, her eyes were filled with spirit energy, but now there was nothing.
Patrick frowned, then closed the door.
Hearing the door close, Alice turned and walked over to the window. It was already late at night, but there were lights everywhere and people everywhere.
They were all people from the Browns.
No, they were all Patrick's men.
She lowered her eyes and looked at the medicine in her hand.
Patrick gave her the pill.
Alice walked to the front of the bed and sat down. Then, she took out a few boxes of medicine from her bag and placed them on the bedside.
As for this medicine ...
She opened the drawer and placed the medicine box inside. Just as she was about to close the drawer, Alice saw a folded piece of paper inside.
Alice picked up the paper and opened it.
It was a romantic Italian love motto from her father to her mother.
In the hands of a zealot, they would live with each other until the end of time.
Alice thought that her mother would probably take it out often to look at. Beverly was unconscious on the bed.
Alice watched her quietly. She seemed to have aged a lot in a night, and her face was covered in dried tears. Even the lines at the corners of her eyes were getting more and more obvious.
"Mother, you must be fine. Do you understand?"
Alice said softly, she really could not take a bigger blow.
Her father had left, but she couldn't even be sad anymore. Because she still had to think. She kept thinking about what William would do if he was here.
She had to think of a way to bring her mother away from here. Then what about William, could he have been taken away by Patrick?
If William fell into Patrick's hands, what kind of ending would it end up like?
Alice didn't dare imagine.
When Beverly woke up, she was much calmer than before. Together with Alice, they finished dealing with Xavier's aftermath.
The people of Browns withdrew part of their forces from the island. Walking out of the high city walls, Alice stood by the sea with the urns in her arms.
Her black dress was fluttering in the wind. While holding the urns in her hands, Beverly blew them into the blue ocean with the wind.
"Why did you spill it in the sea?"
Alice asked. She still had no tears, but her eyes were extremely red, with a lot of bloodstains on them.
Beverly continued to grab a handful of urn, allowing the ashes to fly through the air.
Hearing Alice's question, Beverly turned and glanced at her, "In the past, I loved to swim the sea, so your father said that the sea is indestructible. In the future, our ashes will be sprinkled here, and then, we can continue swimming following the current."
Beverly had a smile on her face when she said that. She looked at the ocean, and her eyes filled with yearning, and even her face started to glow.
"It's romantic."
Alice said softly.
She had only known her parents for a short period of time. Before this, she had always thought that her parents were related by marriage and that they respected each other. Only now did she understand that there was an emotion that others could not understand.
"Yeah, your father is rarely that romantic, so I remember every word he said."
Beverly said with a smile. She sprinkled all the ashes in her hand onto the ocean, letting them fly into the water.
Alice stared at the ashes flying in the wind, the blinding sunlight blinded her eyes. Father left just like that.
She didn't know why she couldn't cry. Maybe she still didn't want to accept the truth. She felt like she was in a dream.
It was a very fake dream.
When she woke up from the dream, William would kiss her on her eyes, and her father would peel an apple for her.
Beverly turned her head and saw Alice's empty eyes. Her heart ached a little, and she said gently, "The funeral is over, Alice. Don't be sad anymore. Your father left you behind selfishly, but as his daughter, you have to feel happy for him. Because he will have a happy life in the heaven."
"I'm not sorry for my father's selfishness."
Alice said.
What right did she have to blame her father? Right now, she was feeling endless guilt.
If it wasn't for her, how could all this happen? If she never existed in this world, Patrick wouldn't even have anything to do with the Browns.
"Alice, feel happy for him. God will protect him." Beverly said.
Alice shook her head, "I'm sorry Mum, but I can't get happy."
She prayed that God would protect her father, and God would bring disaster upon her in exchange for the safety and happiness of those she cared about.
Beverly looked at her and the smile on her face gradually disappeared, leaving only a sigh.
After sprinkling the ashes, the mother and daughter walked back.
Mary and her subordinates were following behind them closely from a distance.
Alice asked Beverly, "Mother, when I came back earlier, I saw what document you signed?"
"It's a document that uses my name to help Patrick manage the Browns."
Beverly calmly replied without any shrewdness.
Indeed.
The current Browns had already changed his surname to Miller.
Alice did not reveal anything, but said lightly, "Didn't I say to wait for me?"
Beverly walked beside her and said, "It was very messy back then, and you couldn't pick up the phone while you were on the plane. Your father's corpse was brought back, so Patrick killed the traitor Miller, but he was not the successor to Browns after all. So I signed, then he can engage with all the things unobstructed."
Yeah.
This time, everything was completely unobstructed.
Alice lowered her gaze, the hand at her side involuntarily grabbing onto her black skirt. She walked forward, and heard a noise.
