"Beacon Hills High = Hell"

As much as Melody hoped and begged her uncle to stay home away from school, you'd think she would be cozying up at home before nice relaxing morning swim but no. No Mel was currently herding Rain into the Jeep as they rushed out of the house to school.
The one and only plus was that Melody had already picked out an outfit so she felt cute and confident walking into her first day. She was wearing her favourite light blue jeans with her thick chunky knit sweater and her white chucks. She finished it off by grabbing her favourite seashell hair clip and her mom's necklace she never took off.
Melody unfortunately had to drop Rain off to the local middle school as well since she wasn't yet in high-school. Ah the blessing of the age difference.
"-I'm actually excited, are you?"
"Mel? Are you listening to me?" Rain asked waving her hands in front of her face breaking her line of thoughts.
"RAIN! Don't do that I could crash!" She yelped pushing the hand away frantically as her heart pounded.
"You weren't listening!" Rain complained as they pulled up to her school.. finally.
"I'm sorry, I just-" Melody started to apologize throwing the jeep in park while searching for something to explain where her head was at.
"-Have a lot on your mind. I get it." Rain finished for her after cutting her off throwing her a knowing look making her short bob whip around.
She looked to Rain with an apologetic look taking in just how different they looked. I meant they looked nothing alike, other than both of the major sass they both possessed the pair didn't look like sisters. Rain had blonde hair cropped to her ears and crystal clear blue eyes where Melody had long dark almost black waves hair and hazel eyes. It was another harsh reminder that Melody was an outsider not just in life but also in her family.
"Yeah. I do, I'm sorry. You are going to do great though and you can tell me all about it after school." She said reaching over to hug her little sister.
"It's okay, I gotta go! I'll see you after school." Rain said after softly pushing out of the hug and patting her shoulder awkwardly. Rain never was one for showing emotions after all.
"Goodluck!" Mel shouted at her sister but got cut off as she shut the door.
"Ugh, I'm the worst sister." Melody muttered running a hand down her face before putting the jeep in gear and driving to Beacon Hills high.
It wasn't that long before she was pulling into an already crowded parking lot and found the only free spot was next to an older version of her Jeep.
The high school wasn't anything special, just another brick building that she couldn't wait to graduate from.
Taking a deep breath Melody squared her shoulders and grabbed her tote bag before locking her jeep up and walking to the front doors.
"Hi I'm new, I think I'm supposed to pick my schedule up from here?" Mel asked walking up the front desk lady putting on her nicest smile hoping the lady was nice and not one of the cranky old people.
"Good morning, name?" Ah and just like that the hopes of a nice office lady was crushed.
"Melody Summers." She responded with a slightly bitchy smile while fixing a stray hair that got loose from her clip.
"Alright, here is your schedule, locker combination and the map of the school. Unfortunately your tour guide is sick but if you have any questions just find a teacher or a student. Good luck Miss Summers, welcome to Beacon high." The old lady handed her a booklet and shut the glass screen connecting the pair quickly shutting her out.
"Thanks.." Mel muttered walking out of the office only to be met with the entire hallway staring down three girls beside her all whispering about who crazy Lydia Martens was.
"Maybe it's the nine pounds." The girl standing next to who she assumed was the girl in question muttered before walking away.
Melody had a feeling she wasn't going to have a quiet day with the amount of gossiping she heard walking down the hall, god some of the stuff the student were saying was so entirely rude it made her stomach churn.
She quickly made her way to where she assumed her locker was but it wasn't, looking down at her paper she crinkled her brows, the lady gave her the wrong directions.
Blowing an angry breath out she looked around hoping to see anyone nice looking to help her and her eyes settled on the three girls from earlier.
Here goes nothing.
"Ah hi? Im really sorry but I'm new and the front office gave me the wrong directions. Do you happen to know where this locker is?" Melody turned her paper around smiling at the three while hoping they would help her. She wasn't exactly the social type so the while new school, new people made her anxiety spike. The girl would rather be swimming or have her head stuck in a book.
"Yeah of course, Mrs smith can be a real bitch sometimes." The brunette smiled calming Mel's nerves a bit before taking the paper before the red head spoke up.
"Wow, you totally have to tell me where you found your outfit. I'm Lydia and this is Allison." Lydia smiled looking at Melody's outfit.
"I'm Melody Summers." She replied smiling back trying to force her anxiety down.
"Don't forget about me sis, I'm Addie." The other red head in the group smiled looking at the girl before looking at her paper with Allison.
"Wait Melody like Ariel's daughter?" Addie asked furrowing her brows at the girl.
"Ah. Yeah, the same. My mom was a big little mermaid fan." Melody muttered forcing back the way of anxiety that came at the mention of her parents.
"Uh Melody, your locker is actually right next to mine and Addies." Allison looked up smiling at the new girl when Lydia locked arms with her shocking her and started to lead them away.
"That settles it, It's official, you are our new best friend." Lydia said grabbing the papers from Allison's hands.
"Hey! We have most of our classes together! The other ones I think Jackson and Danny are in." Lydia told her.
"Scott, stiles and Addie are too." Allison added and at Mel's confused face added on "uh my kinda ex and their friends but they are good guys."
"Oh cool, it'll be nice to have some people I know." Melody added a little confused on just how quick red head made them friends.
"So where did you move from?" Allison asked hoping to actually get to know the girl.
"Crescent Cove, North Carolina." She smiled to Allison, the thought of home warming her heart.
"That's right on the ocean right? Why did you move?" Addie asked as they arrived at the lockers.
"This is yours, mine and Addies are right here and Lydia's is over there." Allison smiled pointing to the locker beside hers and the one a little down the hall.
"Yeah i lived right on the beach. My parents died so me and my little sister are living with my uncle." Melody explained focusing on opening her locker rather than the pity stares she knew she was about to get.
"Melody.. I'm so sorry." Allison apologized as her face dropped making Melody's stomach drop at the pity.
"Uh thanks. So did you grow up here?" Mel asked looking away and quickly switching the topic off her.
"Uh no, I moved away for a while and then moved back at the start of the year but Lydia and Addie grew up here." Allison explained.
"Oh that's cool." She muttered as Allison opened her locker and the both of them unloaded what they didn't need just taking their first class books. Melody however kept her tote with her just incase.
Just as the bell rang Addie spoke up sarcasm lacing her tone at odds with her sweet smile. "Who's ready for coach's class?"
"Ugh. No but here we are." Allison groaned shutting her locker.
"Coach?" Mel frowned following the three girls to her first class.
"Ugh he's the lacrosse coach but he teaches our English and he's a bit eccentric." Allison explained as they walked in and she walked to hand her administration sheet to said coach.
Allison was right he's a little nuts looking with wide eyes and hair that pointed everywhere.
"Hi I'm new." Melody explained handing the man her form.
"Hello new." He sassed as the bell rang and the entire class sat down leaving Mel front and centre making her anxiety fizzle to the surface.
"Good morning class, it looks like we've got a new student. New student why don't you tell us your name, where you're from and a fact about yourself." Coach yelled getting the classes attention and making her worst fear come true. She hated speaking in front of people.
Looking around the class quickly before speaking Mel's eyes widened a bit upon recognizing the boy from the hospital that wouldn't leave her alone.
"Um, hi. My names Melody Summers, I'm from Crescent Cove, North Carolina and I have a little sister named Rain." She told the class forcing her voice to steady before looking to the coach.
"I'm your English and gym teacher, you can just call me coach. Looks like the only seat open is next to McCall and Stilinski. New, I recommend staying away from those pair" Coach motioned to the open seat in between the window and said spastic boy with who she assumed to be his friend in front.
Melody just kept her eyes down quickly walking to the seat as coach started explaining the book they were reading and the upcoming assignment.
The class went by pretty quietly other than feeling eyes on her but to her luck she wasn't called on for anything and could just take in what she would have to catch up on.
Moving halfway through the year sucked.
The next class was exactly the same, she was forced to introduce herself but ended up quietly hiding in the back thankfully finding that Addie was also in the class.
Her luck ended once chemistry started though, the teacher, Mr.Harris being a bit rude and then forcing the spastic boy to move to sit with her as apparently the boy who sat there was away. She heard the students mutter something about him bringing at the police station as she walked to her table.
"Melody! Hey!" Stiles awkwardly exclamation almost tipping out of his chair as she sat down.
"Uh hi? Stiles right?" Mel questioned pulling her chemistry book out of her tote bag before looking up to meet his surprised face.
"Uh yeah, I'm Stiles. You remembered?" He stuttered over his words smiling like Melody had just shown him the answer for world peace.
"Yeah, uh, we have English together." She answered slightly caught off guard by his overwhelming anxious energy.
"Yeah, we do! So uh, how are you liking Beacon Hills so far?" Stiles asked trying to make conversation with the girl.
"Honestly? Um, it's okay but I'll just be happy to graduate." Mel replied relaxing into her seat before the teacher started talking and forced their conversation to stop.
The class soon broke out to start on questions when stiles started whispering to Scott who sat in front of them.
For the start of it Melody tuned them out trying to focus on catching up but when stiles almost knocked into her while whisper yelling at his friend, she quietly started to listen.
"People, good. Werewolves, probably not that good." Stiles panicked.
Werewolves? Are they talking about a video game?
"Stiles, remember when I said I don't have the urge to maim and k*ll?" Scott almost growled back.
Stiles stopped short. "Yeah."
"He does." Scott replied.
"Why would Derek choose Isaac?" Scott questioned stiles and Melody suddenly got the feeling that they weren't talking about a game but if werewolves were real wouldn't she know about it? But then again she'd never met another supernatural creature other than her mom. But werewolves? Mermaids she got but no way werewolves were real.. right?
Stiles voice cut off her line of thoughts. "Peter told me that if the bite doesn't turn you it could kill you. And maybe teenagers have a better chance of surviving."
"Doesn't being a teenager mean your dad can't hold him?" Scott whispered back and a part of Isla was surprised the cranky teacher hadn't caught them yet.
"Well, not unless they have solid evidence. Or a witness. Wait. Danny. Where's Jackson?" Stiles turned to who she assumed was Danny and asked.
" In the principal's office talking to your dad." Danny whispered yelled back and at this point Melody completely gave up on the chemistry questions.
"What? Why?" Stiles asked
" Maybe because he lives across the street from Isaac." Danny pointed out like it was obvious
"Witness." Scott turned to Stiles as she tried to not make it obvious she was listening to them.
"We gotta get to the principal's office." Stiles replied
"How?" Scott replied and soon enough Stiles was crumbling up a paper and throwing it hard at Harris's head making her snort laughing at the two.
"Everyone please turn to page 73. Who in the hell did that?" Harris yelled and Mel quickly shut up watching the two idiots next to her point at each other.
"Office now!" Harris yelled making the two get up and walk out while Stiles sent an apologetic look towards her.
Harris head snapped to hers as another little giggle escaped. "You too, Summers."
Melody stopped looking to her teacher as lines appeared between her brows. "I wasn't apart of that, Mr Harris."
"Well you thought it was funny enough to laugh at and you caught me in a bad mood. Think of it as a some time to think about who you surround yourself with." Mr Harris snapped pointing to the door and Mel bit her tongue as she gathered her stuff.
He sat her with these boys but yet she was getting punished for there stupid antics. If she didn't already hate this place this would've aided to her hatred.
Melody kept her eyes down as she rushed out of the class thankfully that the boys were slow walkers so she caught up quickly.
"Melody? What are you doing here?" Scott asked slowing down to let her join their group.
"Apparently Mr.Harris thinks this would be a good lesson on who I surround myself with, I guess laughing a little at you guys pissed him off." Melody groaned adjusting her tote as she walked.
"Yeah Mr Harris can be a bit of a..." Scott got cut off when Mel spoke up "a dick?" Making Stiles laugh.
"Yeah, a dick." Scott laughed making Melody shake her head.
So in the last 10 minutes Melody learned her supposed lab partner, Issac, was a suspect in his father's murder, werewolves might exist and if they did there was at 4 in town and finally she was sitting with the two stupidest boys in the school.
An interesting first day, for sure.
"So what exactly was so important that you two idiots had to get us set to the office on my first day?" Melody asked making the two boys stiffen slightly before they sat down on the office chairs.
"W-We are worried about Issac." Stiles stuttered making her smirk.
"You guys close?" Melody asked.
"Oh ya, besties." Stiles lied through his teeth.
"Right.. Stiles has anyone ever told you that you suck at lying." Melody laughed watching as the pair stilled.
"Lie? We aren't lying." Scott laughed nervously making her roll her eyes.
"Look I don't care, just make sure you tell them I wasn't a part of this and I won't mention or ask about your stupid werewolf game." Melody sighed rubbing her forehead.
"Game?" Scott frowned
"Yeah the one your friend, Issac, must play with you or whatever. I just want to graduate and leave this town so I'd rather not make enemies with my teachers okay?" Melody replied flatly as the pair nodded.
"Right yes, of course, the game." Stiles smiled hitting Scott in the shoulder making him glare at him.
Suddenly the principal's door opened and the sheriff walked out making Stiles jump quickly hiding his face with a nearby magazine which made Melody frown in confusion until the sheriff locked eyes with her.
It was his dad, Stiles dad was the freaking sheriff. Melody wanted to laugh, of course the know it all noisey kid would be the sheriffs son.
"Hi Scott and?" The sheriff frown at the girl forgetting why she looked so familiar to her.
"Melody Summers." She smiled answering his question.
"Ah right, Dr. Summers niece. Nice to see you again, although I'd recommend staying out of the office." The sheriff said
"I didn't plan on it sheriff, unfortunately Mr Harris thinks laughing at a prank equals being sent to the office." Melody smiled moving to lean against her arm as the man laughed to himself and walked away.
"Come on in." A deep voice said from the door making the boys tense as Melody grabbed her bag and followed the man not really worried about the situation since she didn't actually do anything.
The older man was definitely intimidating to her though as he stood over her with a broad stance and a slightly evil smile as he took in the boys. This man definitely did not like the two, Melody knew that forsure.
The man sat down picking up a folder for each of them before reading off the first one.
"Scott McCall. Academically not the most accomplished, but I see you've become quite the star athlete." He pined the boy with his eyes before moving on to the next.
"Mr.Stilinski. Oh perfect grades but little to no extracurriculars. Maybe you should try lacrosse."
"Oh actually I'm already-" Stiles mumbled but the man just disregard him and cut him off looking to Melody.
"Melody Irving Summers." Melody groaned under her breath at her middle name before the principal continued.
"Academically your records are perfect, but it looks like you've missed lots on account of "family reasons" He pinned her with a questioning smile making her skin crawl as she replied.
"My father was a marine biologist, I used to help him on expeditions once in a while." Melody explained feeling the boys eyes on her.
"Ah I see, but you were a perfect star athlete on the track team in Crescent Cove. You should consider trying out for Beacon Hills Miss Melody."
"I'm thinking on it." Mel softly smiled watching a light blub go off in his mind as he looked to Scott again.
"Hold on. McCall. You're the Scott that was dating my granddaughter." He looked to him as the boy reeked of anxiety.
"We were dating but not anymore. Not dating, not seeing any of each other or doing anything with each other - At all." Scott said stumbling over his words as he rushed to explain himself.
"Relax, Scott, you look like you're about to crack a cyanide pill with your teeth." The man laughed making Scott relax slightly.
"Just a hard breakup." Scott exhaled.
"Oh that's too bad. You seem like a pretty nice kid to me. Now listen, guys. Yes, I am the principal but I really don't want you to think of me as the enemy." He said making Melody relax as she hoped he was about to let them off the hook with a warning.
"Heh, is that so?" Stiles muttered under his breath but Melody caught it with her hearing and frowned at him. She got that he was kinda creepy and the principal but what more did they have against him? Maybe something to do with Scott's ex?
"However, this being my first day, I do need to support my teachers. So unfortunately someone is going to have to take the fall and stay behind for detention. So which of you two boys will it be?" Mr. Argent looked between the boys making melody breathe out a sigh of relief.
Almost immediately Scot pointed to Stiles and Mel had to stifle a laugh at his face.
"That settled it. Nice to meet you again Miss Summers." Mr.Argent said getting up to lead the group out making melody force a smile on her way out.
Soon enough though she was walking the halls towards her locker as lunch started watching as dumb and dumber walked down the hall looking like someone just murdered there puppy.
The two looked to be talking for a moment before Scott took off towards the parking lot. Mel had just took her lunch out when she over heard Lydia arguing with someone and one look towards her locker she decided it didn't look good.
"I'm not responsible for you. Okay? But I will give you one piece of advice. If I were you, I'd stay home tonight." The boy almost yelled her face making Lydia back away in fear.
"What does that mean? What's tonight?" Lydia whispered in fear making her blood boil, so far Lydia had only been made fun of or ignored by everyone other than her twin, Allison, Stiles and Scott. She didn't deserve whatever this guy was doing
"It's a full moon." Jackson basically snarled pushing off from the lockers and walking away.
"Want me to beat him up?" Mel asked walking over making Lydia whip her head to her.
"I could take him." She laughed hoping to cheer Lydia up.
"No, no, it's okay." Lydia said wiping her face a bit.
"Well whatever that was, you're definitely way too good for him. Want to eat lunch together?" Mel smiled holding up her container as Lydia nodded. Usually Melody would be huddle up somewhere with her book rather than socializing with others but something about Lydia getting yelled at forced her to come out of her shell.
"So how's your first day?" Lydia asked leading the pair to a table outside.
"Uh interesting for sure." Mel replied furrowing her brows as she watched Scott argued with someone driving a tinted out Camaro before getting in and the driver was hot.
"Yeah, Beacon Hills sucks." Lydia replied sitting down.
"So that guy?" She asked softly referring to Jackson as she sat down.
"Jackson, my ex and co-captain of the lacrosse team." Lydia explained dropping her food on the table.
"And he's an ass." Addie said announcing her presence as she sat awaking her sister give her a face.
"Lacrosse?" Mel asked not really knowing what the sport consisted of.
"Oh yea, lacrosse is the sport here, not football or basketball." Lydia explained "what was the sport in Crescent Cove?"
"Track and swim. Crescent Cove was only slightly bigger than this one but everyone loved it." Melody smiled at the thought of home.
"Did you do track or swim?" Lydia asked.
"Track, I'm not a big swimmer." She lied laughing to cover up her nerves and she opened her food up silently thanking the gods that Galen had leftover fish for her to take today.
"Really? I would've thought differently with your vibe." Addie tilted her head a bit at the girl.
"My vibe?" She laughed
"Yeah, you got the whole beach thing going for you. Plus the shell clip and your seriously gorgeous necklace." Lydia explain waving a hand towards her hair and adding to her sisters comment.
"Oh right, my dad was a marine biologist so I guess I inherited the love for the ocean and the necklace was my birth mom's." Melody explained holding her hand over her necklace protectively out of reflex.
"Birth mom?" Lydia tilted her head.
"Oh uh I have a different mom than my little sister. Sorry I guess I'm used to being around people from home. Me and my sister, Rain, look nothing alike so it's a force of habit." She smiled silently cringing at her use of words.
"Oh okay, so are you going try out for track team." Lydia said sensing she needed to shift the conversation topic.
"I might, I haven't decided." She said shrugging her shoulders.
"You should, we need the help! Try outs are soon I think. I'll have to text you." Lydia said making her laugh.
The rest of lunch was easy the conversation flowing between the girls as Lydia and Addie filled her in on all the gossip and soon enough she was on the way to pick up Rain.
Even with the semi easy day, Melody was mentally exhausted and all she wanted to do was go for a swim. A part of her broke a bit at the thought that her swim would be in a lake instead of the calming waters of Crescent Coves beach. She missed her friends and most importantly her dad, without him she was truly all alone with her secret.
Mel quickly put herself back together as she pulled up to where Rain was waiting for her.
"Hey! How was your day?" Melody asked as her little sister climbed in the jeep sporting her most convincing smile.
Rain threw her bag in the bag before collapsing in the passenger seat with a large exhale. "I miss home."
"I know, I do too." Melody silently agreed throwing the jeep in gear. The pair were quiet for the first part of the ride home until Isla forced herself to break the silence.
"Did you meet anyone? Did you like your classes?" She questioned glancing to her sister who was staring at the passing trees.
"Yeah, the girls I sit with are nice, Mia and Cleo, they even invited me to lunch. My classes are okay, art is nice and the teacher is an actual art teacher. It's... just-" Rain stopped searching for the words to describe her day.
"Not home." Mel finished for her as they pulled into the driveway.
"Yeah, not home.." Rain said meeting Melody's equally as sad eyes.
"They are proud of you, ya know?" She offered softly referring to her parents.
"I know, they are of you too but... I'm proud of us too." Rain smiled making her older sister laugh.
"I'm proud of us too." She agreed making Rain join in on the laughter.
"I'm starving!" Rain laughed getting out of the jeep after the two settled down.
"Mac and cheese?" Mel offered entering the house behind Rain.
"Of course."Â Rain answered.
â¢â¢â¢
"Hey Rain? I'm gonna head for a run if that's okay? But don't wait up, your bed time is still the same and I need a long run after today." Mel explained finding her little sister on the couch with a bag near her feet.
"What's the bag for Rain?" Mel asked walking past her.
"If you're gonna go on your run" Rain stopped her in her tracks as she motioned quotation marks. "Then can you remember your backpack with the extra towel and clothes your dad made you bring."
"Y-you knew that?" Melody stopped backing up to the couch staring at her sister.
"I know." Rain said giving her a knowing look making her eyes go wide.
"H-how?! Elise wasn't supposed to tell you, my dad promised." She stuttered in shock.
"They didn't tell me, I didn't even know mom knew. I walked in on you swimming in the pool during the last storm back home. I never said anything." Rain explained
"You knew." Mel exhaled sitting on the couch still in shock.
"Why do you think I wouldn't let you move here alone?" Rain exclaimed
"Do you think I'm a freak?" Melody whispered
"No! I think that I have a cool ass sister and I really hope you let me do your hair with your tail cuz I wanna braid shells into it." She smiled making melody start to tear up.
"Whoa why are you crying?" Rain asked stunned at her reaction
"I just was always worried what you'd think." Mel laughed "they are happy tears!" She said wiping said tears off her face
"Well stop! Crying makes me uncomfortable!" Rain exclaimed getting up.
"You need a swim and I hear gossip girl calling my name." Rain started leading her sister out of the house grabbing the bag she packed.
"Wait! Did you finish your homework?" She yelled pinning her feet down.
"Yes! Now go!" Rain exclaimed pushing the bag in her hands.
"Okay, message received. I'll see you later!" She laughed leaving out the back door not holding back her grin.
Melody welcomed the fresh frigid air as she walked towards the thankfully very clean and deserted lake.
Her skin itched at the thought of finally letting her tail out, the last couple days being hell on her and her body. She learned quickly growing up that if she didn't swim that she'd grow restless, then get a headache and then slowly become very sick. It sucked.
Melody quickly hid her backpack where she could find it, hiding her phone along with it before heading down the dock.
A broad smile erupted on her face as she dove into the lake but not before taking a glance at the full moon, her supernatural hearing not picking up the werewolves running around in the nearby forest.
