"This is stupid, we should just go out there." She sighs clearly anxious running a hand through her hair. The group was still waiting for a call and melody had taken to pacing alongside Stiles until he left when Lydia called.

Finally the phone rings. Melody jumps for it, picking it up and answering it right away.

"Derek!"

"Melody." Derek says grimly, her face falls and her heart quickens.

"What happened?" She said as everyone walked closer to listen in.

"It's Erica, she-" Derek stops himself and takes a few deep breaths but he didn't have to finish his sentence for her to know what he meant.

"No-" Tears immediately filled her eyes as she turned to Stiles and Issac. "Oh Der, I'm so sorry."

"Where are you?" She asks, holding back tears at the thought of the happy girl she wish she knew better.

"The woods, I need you to get Isaac and come out here. Boyd and um- my sister- Cora, they're loose, Scott and I are trying to track them," Derek sighs and clears his throat.

"Your sister's alive?" Melody exclaims in shock remembering Derek speak so highly of the girl.

"I'm just as shocked as you are." He exhales obviously in shock.

"I'll be there soon, and I'll bring Issac and Peter." She says in a comforting voice looking to Issac who nodded already heading for the door.

Melody turned around looking for Peter only to see him still sitting.

"You just gonna sit there?"

"Go ahead, I'll catch up."

"Fine with me." She sighs walking out with Issac following, the walk to the car was silent, the air becoming thick between the pair as she drives.

"Can we talk?"

Melody sighs gripping the steering wheel harder. "You had all summer to talk to me." Melody retorts turning onto the street.

"I was trying to keep you out of this." Issac reasoned.

"I wasn't even in town! You could have at least responded to my messages."

"I should have, I know. I'm sorry."

"Great." She snips, feeling bad about being mean but he had hurt her and she knew she deserved better, at least, she thought she did. He was her friend at least she thought.

"Melody.."

"Can you just see where Derek is, please." She sighs cutting him off.

"Turn left up there and then park. You can't drive past here." Issac says feeling defeated looking to the girl, he didn't need to be a werewolf to see how much he hurt her.

After chasing the two beta werewolves around the woods for a while the two males males met the mermaid and wolf. The group stood in the woods after getting a phone call from Stiles about a murder.

"This doesn't make any sense." Derek thought out loud, The public pool is all the way on the other side of the woods. We haven't tracked them anywhere near there-" He recalled.

Scott turned to the alpha, "Derek, they killed someone." He remarked.

Derek was having trouble trying to piece it together, "How are they moving so fast?" He continued. "They can't be that fast on foot!" He pointed out in defence.

"They couldn't have gotten that far." Melody agreed, it didn't make sense.

"They killed someone. Some totally innocent kid is dead... And it's our fault." Scott sighed looking down.

Derek shook his head, "It's my fault."

"We need help." Scott shook his head looking to the alpha.

Derek pointed to the dirty-blonde werewolf and mermaid standing away from each other, Melody had her arms crossed.

"We have Isaac and Melody now."

"I mean real help!" Scott emphasized, "They're too fast for us, for all of us. They're too strong, too rabid..."

"We'll catch 'em."

"What happens when we do though?" Melody glanced to Derek.

Issac scoffed "We just gonna hold them down until the sun comes up?"

"Maybe it would be easier just to kill 'em..." Derek sighed accepting that it might be the only way.

Melody's eyes widened, "We are not killing anyone."

"Killing them isn't the right thing to do." Scott agreed.

"What if it's the only thing to do?" Issac questioned making Melody glare at him.

"Killing is never the answer."

"That's not what I want to do either, Boyd is my friend. If we can't even catch them, what else can we do?" Issac sighs.

"Find someone who knows what they're doing."

"Who?" The alpha looked at Scott skeptically.

"Someone who knows how to hunt werewolves."

"Not him." Melody's eyes widened at the boy.

"He can help."

"I barely escaped the last fight without him finding out what I am."

"He won't hurt you. I promise."

"You better mean that, I don't feel like being a stuck in a tank the rest of my life."

"We won't let that happen." Issac assured her.

✸✷✸

Melody sighed putting her Jeep in park as Scott got out to talk to the hunter leaving her alone with Issac and Derek.

"This is a stupid idea." Melody shakes her head as the older man holds a gun to Scott making her throw her hands up. "I told him!"

"Do you think this is gonna work?" Issac looks to Derek from his place in the back seat making her glance between them.

"Nope."

"Can you track them?" Issac looks to Mel making her sigh, "They aren't exactly my kind of species." Issac raised a brow clearly confused.

"If they were in water it would be no problem, Being on land its a little harder."

Melody sighs as both their faces turn into confusion, "Think of dolphins. Do you know how they see and hunt in the deep?"

Both shook their heads.

"Did you pay any attention in biology?" Both shook their heads again making her groan.

"Echolocation, they use sound waves that bounce off an object, returning an echo that provides information about the object's distance and size. But mermaid's can feel like shifts in currents or disturbances in the ocean, so if a boat or a whale was headed towards me I'd know, hence why I'm not great at tracking on land."

Issac just nodded, his eyes wide with awe, "Cool."

"Wow you really are a little fish." Derek laughs.

"Shut up." Mel laughs back shoving him lightly.

Looking back to the parking lot Melody was confused to see Scott getting in his truck.

"I missed something."

"Scott's making him see the damage. Let's head back to the forest, he'll meet us."

✸✷✸

The group all met up where they had last seen the two beta's and subconsciously Melody stood between Issac and Derek far away from the hunter then was confused again to see her here.

"You've been tracking them by print?" Chris asked.

"Yeah," Scott nodded, sighing and looking at the ground.

"What?" Mel asked frowning at the face he was making at her.

"I'm sorry, why is she here?" Chris stops frowning at the girl.

Derek and Issac take a step closer to her.

"She is none of your business." Issac warns lowly making Chris back off.

"You've been wasting your time. The only creature on earth that can visually track footprints is man," Chris said, looking between the 3 wolves and Melody in front of him.

"And if you're not trained like me you have no idea that this print is Boyd's and these--" He started but Isaac interjected.

"Are Cora's," He said, a proud smile on his face.

"Nope. They're yours." Chris sighed. "You trampled Cora's as soon as you walked over here. Listen, I know the three of you are focusing half your energy on resisting your own urges under the full moon, but that puts you at a severe disadvantage to Boyd and Cora, who have fully given in. They put the pedal to the floor where you three are barely hitting the speed limit." Chris says, moving to look for something on the ground.

"So what do we do?" Derek says, folding his arms.

"Focus on your sense of smell. Actual wolves are known to track their prey for up to a hundred miles a day by scent. The trained hunter can use scent to trap them," Chris looked up to him and they all nodded.

"If the wind is with them, wolves can track a scent by a distance of two miles. Which means we can draw them to us. Or into a trap..."

"The full moon does give us one advantage. They'll have a higher heat signature," Chris searches through a bag and pulls out a pair of night-vision goggles. "Which makes them easier to spot with infrared."

He tosses a pair to Isaac, then one to Derek who just shakes his head and hands them to Melody.

"I got my own," He says, flashing his eyes. Mel scoffs, rolling her eyes and holding the goggles up to her eyes, turning to Scott and giggling.

"I look like my Goldfish," She lowered the goggles and Scott laughed slightly, shaking his head.

"Since when do you have a goldfish."

"Not the time, Scotty." She whispers to Scott with a look.

"Just remember we're not hunting wild animals. Underneath those impulses are two intelligent human beings. Don't think they can't rely on that human side. It's suppressed, but it's there, reminding them how to mask their scent, how to cover their tracks, how to survive. When's the last time you saw your sister?" Chris asks, turning to Derek who shakes his head.

"Not in years, I thought she died in the fire."

"You feel like you got a lock on her scent?"

Derek shakes his head, sighing.

"Scott, how confident are you in your skills?" Chris asks, turning his attention to Scott.

"Honestly? Most of the time Im trying not to think about all of the things I can smell."

"All right, our real problem is when they breach the woods and hit the residential areas. Once they're past the high school they're right in the middle of Beacon Hills," Chris points to a map on the hood of Melody's Jeep and Isaac widens his eyes.

"They're not gonna try to kill everything they see, are they?" He turns to look at Chris, who shakes his head.

"No. But there's an important difference to recognize. Wolves hunt for food. At a certain point, they get full. Boyd and Cora are hunting for the pleasure of the kill. For some primal, apex predatory satisfaction that comes from ripping a warm body to bloody shreds. And who knows when that need is satiated," Chris shakes his head and the group falls silent, all feeling mixed emotions.

"We can't kill them," Scott says, looking between all of them but this time, Derek shakes his head.

"What if we can't catch them?"

"Maybe we just need to contain them." Melody narrows her eyes slightly getting an idea and turns to Scott. "There's nobody in the school this late, is there?"

"There shouldn't be, why? You wanna trap them in there?" Derek answers.

"If there's somewhere with a strong enough door. No windows or access to the outside." Chris nods.

"What about the boiler room? It just has the one steel door," Issac suggests making her nod. "That could work, I can get us in."

"You're sure the schools empty?" Chris asks.

"There shouldn't be anybody in there this late, right?" Scott and Isaac both nod, backing her up and Derek sighs, turning to Chris.

"So how are we gonna do this?"

"I'm glad you asked," Chris said, kneeling and picking up a metal device. "These are Ultrasonic Emitters. It's one of the tools we use to corral werewolves, pushing them into the direction we want them to run. Gives off a high-pitched frequency that only they can hear."

He pushes the button to turn it on and looks up to see all four with their hands over their ears grimacing. Melody whimpered with her enhanced hearing, her senses were on over drive.

"God, no kidding!" Issac yells glancing to Mel to see her legs about to give out, "Turn it OFF!"

Chris tilts his head lightly at the girl before clicking it off and standing up, "Are you okay?"

Mel feeling something wet on her hands lifted her hands from her ears only to see blood.

"God, are you okay?" Issac rushing to take her hands seeing the blood dripping out her ears still.

Melody looks to Chris, "Never ever again."

"I'm sorry." Chris winces before handing several to the group.

"Here." Issac takes off his scarf letting Mel clean the blood off as she groans, "Talk quieter please."

"Sorry." Issac whispers.

"These will point them to the school?" Derek asks, taking a few more from Chris, who nods.

"And then it's up to you to get them to the basement," Chris hands out the last few emitters and turns back to the group.

"Anyone wanna rethink the plan where we just kill them?" Isaac asks, turning to the group, who all look at him with narrow eyes. He raises his eyebrows and puts his hands in the air, backing up slightly. "Okay, just asking."

"Okay, get out of here, you all have your areas to put these things so let's get moving, we don't have much time," Derek turns to everyone who nods, going to place their emitters.

Issac stays with Melody surprised at her pace as they placed the emitters, even with her ears pounding Mel pushed through worried about Boyd and Cora.

They both ended up in the parking lot of the school after placing and turning on their last two emitters, ironically so did Boyd and Cora. Isaac turned to them, flashing his eyes readying to fight or grab the mermaid and run.

But before they had to fight, Chris pulls up, headlights blinding Boyd and Cora. He presses down on the horn, herding them like cattle to the entrance of the school. Derek stands inside the hallway, ready to defend his area but the two wolves jump up, confusing Derek and the rest of his pack.

"They're not going through the school-" Scott starts but Mel sighs, rolling her eyes.

"They're going over it."

They all rush to regroup at Chris' SUV, all frantically glancing around for Boyd and Cora.

Derek rushes out from the lobby, meeting them.

"The rear doors, we need to get them open," Chris turns to Derek, but she cuts them off, "I can."

Not waiting for the enviable argument to come she runs inside.

"I'll go drive them inside." Chris says shocked at the girl.

"No. I'm faster." Issac says, before turning to speed away, disappearing behind the school.

Melody gets to the back opening the doors in time to see Issac hiding beside the doors while Allison shoots flashing arrows, trying to push them inside the school.

Melody seeing the betas about to head for the school and spot Issac, she runs twisting her hand to make herself invisible before grabbing onto the boy making him invisible but be able to see her.

Quickly, Melody signals him to not speak before they move to shut the doors behind the wolves.

Untwisting her arm she releases Issac and steps back.

She turned to the direction the arrows were coming from finding Allison standing there. Melody looked at her with an amused smile and Allison's eyes widened. She brought her finger to her lips as if to signal not to tell anyone and Mel nodded. Allison let out a sigh of relief as she turned and disappeared into the night.

Shaking her head she looks back to Issac who is once again looking to her in awe.

"I thought you were mad at me?" He lightly smirks

"Just because I'm mad doesn't mean I want to see you hurt." Mel says softly stepping back.

"That's a cool trick." He smiles fully.

"Made sneaking out easier when I was younger that's for sure." Melody not being able to resists, she finds herself smiling.

"Melody Summers sneaking out, I can't believe it."

"Come on, they need help." She laughs shaking her head as they walk around to the front.

Scott and Derek lead Boyd and Cora into the basement as Isaac and her walk the school just in case. Chris went to collect the emitters from the woods and then head home, leaving the two in the school by themselves, to say it was a little awkward was a lie.

Melody felt that stupid fuzzy feeling coming back everything she glanced at the boy.

She turns, however, hearing the sounds of a fight coming from the basement, glancing at Issac they run towards the sound. The two rush to the basement, finding Scott against the door.

"Where's Derek?" Mel says, frantically. Scott shakes his head, breathing heavily.

"He went inside, there's an extra heartbeat in there," Scott said, catching his breath and Melody widens her eyes.

"He went in there alone?" Scott nodded and Mel rolled her eyes.

"That was stupid."

"He said not to follow him in there. I need you guys to go upstairs and let me know when the sun comes up."

Issac moves to go and Mel stops him.

"No need, I'll feel it."

The group sits there, Melody hating hearing the sounds of Derek struggling but tenses at the sudden loss of feeling the full moon.

"Sun's up." Melody sighs, sad to have lost a full moon chasing wolves but it was a necessity.

They all rushed in to see Derek, bloodied and scratched up, on his knees in front of Boyd and Cora, who were passed out. He looked up at them with an exhausted gaze, already beginning to heal.

"Der." Melody rushes to him.

"There's a teacher, back there, I'll take care of her. Get these two," Derek panted out, shaking his head at her and gesturing to the two in front of him. Scott and Isaac shared a glance as they moved forward, picking Boyd and Cora up and following Melody to the car outside.

Once Derek took care of the teacher, they all drove back to the loft after dropping Scott off at his house and waited for Boyd and Cora to wake up.

"You shouldn't have rushed in there earlier." Derek says catching the girls eyes as she cleaned his wounds.

"I can handle myself." Melody sighs looking to Issac and then back to Derek. "I saved his ass."

Derek smiles lightly tilting his head at her, "Really?"

"She turned invisible, it was so cool." Issac grinned at the girl making her giggle throwing the used guase away but stopped cleaning when her phone pinged.

"It's Galen, He's on his way home, I should go." She sighs looking at Derek and he nods.

"Let me know if you need anything or Cora needs clothes."

"Okay, I'll call you if I need anything," He nods to her and she smiles, grabbing her keys and turning to Isaac who just nods. She gave him a slightly confused smile and turned on her heels, leaving.

Once she got home she kicked off her shoes and flopped into bed. As soon as her head hits the pillow she drifts off to sleep, the events of the night hitting her all at once.
