"My lake, your Forest."

Melody's body surged through the lake as she propelled her self through the crystal clear water releasing all her pent up anxiety into her underwater home. Her mind dived into a relaxing bliss in her fish filled solitude.

The one blessing of Beacon hill was this lake was protected meaning no motor boat had ever dumped fuel into its clear waters giving the wildlife a beautiful life.

She needed this after today's craziness and the stress of Erica almost dying.

Melody stopped when suddenly something hard dropped onto her head from the surface, looking down the object fell slowly off her head and she realized that someone must be skipping rocks on the lake.

Looking up Melody frowned at the surface, it was dark out now, so who was dumb enough to be out by the lake skipping rocks with so many murders happening in town. Quickly dodging another rock Mel grasped it in her hand and swam slowly to the shore.

Even though the distorted surface she knew exactly who it was as she quietly popped her head out and chucked the rock at his head with a little extra force.

"Holy!" Issac ducked and Melody giggled swimming over.

"I think you lost that." Mel sassed watching Issac jump at the voice and almost fall over from her popping her head out of the water.

"What are you doing." She asked laughing still when Issac eyes found her.

"Uh- going for a walk?" Issac smirked shrugging a shoulder at her watching as she crossed her arms on the rock she was leaning against and rested her head on them.

"By my lake?" She sassed forcing back her smile as at werewolf being so clumsy.

"Since when is this is your lake." Issac raised a brow at her.

"Since it's the only place I can swim." Melody shrugged flicking her tail for emphasis.

"Well then this is my forest." Issac boasted raising his arms to show off his surroundings as he circled

"Really now?" Melody laughed full heartedly making Issac's heart skip at how her eyes sparkled, for some reason Issac couldn't get her soft smile out of his mind since he met her, something about it making him feel safe and that was a rarity even with his newfound abilities.

"Hey fair is fair." Issac sighed gazing at her as she calmed down resting her head down again.

"How's Erica feeling?" Melody asked.

"Better, a lot better. She's basically back to normal. Thanks again for that."

The pair settled into silence as Issac sat down crisscrossed in the rocks fixing his eyes on her as he played with the end of his shirt

"Something's on your mind." Melody insisted nodding slightly to him.

Issac looked at her pining her lightly with his eyes in slight surprise.

"How do you know that?"

"Other than you hit me in the head with a rock you were skipping? You're fiddling with your shirt, and I know a nervous habit when I see one, what's up?"

"You look happier in the water." Issac nodded to her.

"You're avoiding, but I'll allow it." She squinted at him.

"What's it like?" He asked.

"It's home, safe." She wondered off deep in thought. "I never felt like I fit in growing up, especially in my family, my dad was the only one I got along with and even that was hard. Nothing made sense to me unless I was in the water, I used to get in so much trouble sneaking out to swim but when I finally changed, I don't know, everything clicked." She lightly smiled at the memory before continuing. "It wasn't all sunshine and rainbow though, I probably would've got into more trouble if it hadn't been for my dad. He took me on his research trips, taught me about my magic, told me stories about my mom, heck we even sung together."

"Sounds like you guys were close." Issac's eyes flickered with sadness before he covered it up.

"We were." Melody nodded.

"So your other family-?" He pointed to her tail.

"Turn into a giant fish? No." She smirked

"My dad was a marine biologist, he ran into my mom, literally, when she sneaked away from her pod to explore land, she was or is, a very curious person, she wanted to know everything. She had to leave to go back to the ocean when I was very young and then my dad had Rain with her mom. She was a co-worker and actually helped my mom out when she was pregnant with me."

"Whoa. So your mom is still alive?" Issac furrowed his brows at her.

"Yeah, she is, or at least that I know off, I promised myself when I first grew a tail and found out that I'd go find her, my dad made me promise I'd graduate first though."

"Whoa that's-"

"Absolutely Insane?"

"Not what I was going to say but sure?" He titled her head at her.

"Sometimes I think it is, I mean it is. But to me the sea isn't as scary as land can be." She said honestly.

"What do you mean?" Issac scrunched his brows.

"Come on, I mean the history of them alone, not saying that mermaids are peaceful. Human are completely malleable, aggressive, greedy, abusive and don't get me started about how they treat the world. You can't tell me you don't agree at least a bit with me."

"You got me there." Issac's heart started to race as he clenched his clammy hands thinking of his father looking away from Melody.

Melody's lips turn down taking in Issac's change in posture. "I'm sorry."

Issac's head turned to her face full of confusion before locking eyes with Melody and he realized she caught on to his reaction to his memories.

"What-no? Don't apologize, just uh- memories." Issac took a deep breath going to say something when Melody interrupted.

"You don't need to tell me." She shook her head.

"No-no, I want to!" Issac replied before explaining. "My uh- dad- was abusing me, that's why I said yes to the bite when Derek asked. So i understand what you mean but there are good things to land." Issac smiled as an idea hit him, "One day, I'll show you, a day of everything good about land."

"Maybe, I can do the same about the sea one day." Melody smiled

Issac turned his head nodding to the trees in fake thought before looking to her smiling, "sounds like a deal."

"Shake on it?" Melody raised her brows at the boy  who nodded.

Melody took Issac's out stretched hand looking to him letting the corners of her mouth into a cheeky grin making his eyes widen at what she was about to do while his weight shifted against his wishes. "Wait, Mel!" Issac gasped as Melody shifted her weight back more pulling him the water.

Issac let out a loud yelp as he dove head first into the water making his mouth fill with water.

Melody laughed freely as Issac surfaced his curls now soaked and plastered to his forehead he turned to spit out the water before looking to her.

"What the heck was that for?!" Issac exclaimed pushing his hair back, "Payback." Mel grinned at him.

"For what?" Issac raised his brows at the grinning girl, "For chucking a rock at my head!" She retorted with a shrug.

"I didn't know you were there!" He argued.

"Well you should've! Mermaid." She pointed herself and then the lake "lake!"

"Come on that was funny!" Melody giggled making Issac grin and splash her back.

Melody wiped her face off slowly a little shocked by the wall of water slamming in her face.

"I don't think you wanna start that." She warned lightly tilting her head at the boy.

"Oh come on that was funny! Now we are even." He grinned throwing her words back at her.

Melody looked at Issac getting an idea that made a smile slowly erupt over her face making Issac throw his hands up in surrender, "Whoa, wait!"

It was too late Melody used her magic to make an almost faucet like shape over him before releasing all the water almost drowning him in a large wave.

"You're right, I'd say we are even now." Melody agreed as Issac surfaced.

"Nah, I'd say you won that round." Issac spluttered looking to her with a shocked face.

The pair looked at each other for a moment before breaking out into a fit of laughter.

"What now?" Issac asked as they settled making Mel purse her lips, "I could race you?"

"No way, you have an unfair advantage." He nodded to her tail.

"But you got that whole werewolf thing, that helps, right?" she waved her hand to him.

"It could be fun" she wiggled her brows at the boy who sighed before leaping to swim ahead of her splashing water all over her making her burst out laughing. "Issac!"

Melody ducked under water slipping under Issac's swimming form swimming under him lazily until the boy finally reached the other side and she breached the surface.

"You know for a wolf, you're not a terrible swimmer." She laughed at Issac.

"You totally let me win!" Issac exclaimed as water ran off his face, the moonlight illuminating it.

"Of course I did! I'm a mermaid, unfair advantage." She laughed shaking her head at him.

Melody looked at the boy her breath catching in her throat, the moonlight was shining in his face reminding her of home, of late night swims with the moon glittering off of the glass like water. Issac still held a wide grin making his dimples appear watching as her whiskey coloured eyes shifted taking in every detail.

"You're blushing." Issac whispered knocking her out her thoughts and making her chocolate eyes widen as her cheeks darkened more.

"And you're annoying." She scowls as much as she can manage against her flushed cheeks.

"Annoying you is what I'm best at." Issac smiles cheekily.

"Huh uh, let's get you back to shore wolf boy." She chuckles at him watching as Issac ducked under the water to swim away.

Melody swam beside the boy only flicking her tail once in a while to glide alongside him. Issac looked over enchanted by the girl who seemed so at peace with herself instead of her anxious self he saw at school.

Melody popped her head out as Issac did looking at her in wonder, "that- you- are amazing." Issac spluttered in awe.

"Uh-thanks" she said the flush returning to her cheeks as the boy got out.

Issac pushed his curls out of his face before looking down at his drenched clothes and back to Melody who was back to leaving on a rock.

"Derek's going to kill me if I show up soaking wet"

"Want a steam dry?" Melody smirked waving her hand a bit.

Issac's eyes widened "I don't know-"

"Oh come on! This isn't my first rodeo with magic! What do you think ima do? Deep fry you?" She laughs

"You could." He pointed out in all seriousness making her snort.

"You trust me?" She questioned furrowing her brows.

"Oh course, Princess." Issac smirked.

Melody blushed at the nickname before lifting her hand to concentrate, feeling the water molecules against his skin she focused, curling her hand in a ball slowly making steam roll off the boy in waves.  Melody pulled her hand away when she couldn't feel anymore water against his skin.

"See no deep fried werewolf here." She mocked smirking at the curly haired boy.

"I see, thank you." Issac smiled back before titling his head slightly, "Need help out?"

She shook her head, "I'm good, Rains at a sleepover and my uncles at work so home sweet home for the night." She laughed running her hand against the water.

"Wait seriously? You sleeping here?" He squinted at her in confusion.

"Yep, I'll be fine, i do it probably too much, makes it easier." She shrugged lightly

"Makes what easier?" Issac frowned

"Being on land." She replied softly.

"I'll be fine Issac, seriously, go home, say hi to the sour wolf for me." Melody laughed making him smile at the noise.

"Goodnight Melody, see you at school." Issac smiled making the girl smile back, "night Issac." Before turning to swim back under as Issac stood watching for a moment before walking off to Derek's with a soft smile stuck on his face.
