Chapter 7 of 25

8 | Bugs

You walk out of the bar after having a beer. You knew that your face was flushed because one beer was enough to do that to you. A few more and you would be walking around half-naked.

You had decided to carry your polaroid camera with you most of the time now because of how frustrated you had got when you couldn't take pictures before. Fortunately, your camera was small enough to fit in your jacket pocket. As you walk out, you were suddenly glad for taking it with you.

You sneak up on Sam sitting on the hood and leaning against the windshield with a newspaper in his hand. You bring the camera up and take a picture, but since luck was always against you in situations like these, you didn't notice that the flash was on. But the picture came out good because Sam didn't move until after. He looked startled and you chuckle as you hand him the picture that was printed out.

The light shone off the sleek Impala. A shadow from Sam's hair was on his face which made him look even more beautiful.

"How is it?" You ask as you lean on the side of the car where he was seated.

He looks startled but starts to calm down. His cheeks become slightly pink when he looks at the picture.

"Great." He breathes out. "Listen, Y/n-"

You turn around when you hear Dean chuckling. He starts waving a wad of cash he had in his hand as he comes towards the car.

"You know, we could get day jobs once in a while."

"Hunting is our day job and the pay is crap," Dean says as he starts to count the money he must have won in a card game or something.

"Yeah, but hustling pool, credit card scams? It's not the most honest thing in the world, Dean."

Dean continues speaking but you get a phone call. Sam looks at you as you walk away from them and you look at the caller ID.

Shit.

You bring the phone to your ear and speak. "Hello?"

"Y/n, where are you? You were supposed to arrive in the morning."

"Mom, I can explain..."

You try coming up with an excuse and use Sam's.

"I'm on a road trip. With Sam. And his brother Dean."

"You're on a road trip with Sam? The one who's girlfriend died?"

"Mom!" You whine. Sometimes your mom had no filter while speaking.

"And you're alone with two boys?" Your mom asks once more and you roll your eyes.

"Yes, I am." You turn back to look at the boys but see them in the Impala. "Mom, listen, I have to go. Why did you call me?"

"Well, your letter from Natural Geographic has come. I'm pretty sure it's regarding your internship."

You take a deep breath. You had forgotten all about it. "Uh- When did it come?"

"Today."

You turn around when Dean honks. "Uh- mom? I really have to go. I'll call you when I'm close. Bye, mom!" You say and hang up, not waiting for her to reply.

You jog back to the car and get inside.

"Who was that?" Sam asks as he turns around to look at you.

"My mom." You say as you keep the picture you took in your bag.

~~

"You're kidding." You gulp down and look at the hole. "I'm not going in there."

"You're the smallest, Y/n. Sammy's too huge and I'm too broad. It'll be easy for you to move around in there," Dean says.

Sam and Dean had explained the supposed case to you and you guys had talked to a guy named Travis who was with the victim Dustin when he died. He supposedly died from mad cow disease or something. Sam knew.

"I can go in if you're scared," Sam says.

"Scared? I'm not scared. Just tie the damn hose around me."

Dean and Sam chuckle. Dean throws the hose at Sam and he ties it around your waist. His hand grazes your waist and you will yourself not to blush.

"Don't drop me." You say warily as he lowers you into the hole.

~~

"So you found some beetles in a hole in the ground," Dean says as you look at the bug in your palm. You had given one to Sam and he was examining it too. "That's shocking,

Y/n."

You try backing up why you thought it was strange. "There were no tunnels, no tracks, no evidence of any other kind of creature down there."

"You know, some beetles do eat meat," Sam says and looks up at Dean. You look at Dean too who looked exasperated. "It's usually dead meat, but-"

"How many did you find down there, Y/n?"

"About ten."

"It would take a whole lot more to eat someone's brains."

"Well, maybe there were more," Sam says. You were surprised that he wasn't questioning you like Dean because honestly if someone told you what you were telling them, you would snort.

"I don't know. Sounds like a stretch to me."

"We should get more information on this area, this neighborhood, whether something like this happened before. Maybe it's a ghost using insects to kill people or something." You say in defense.

"Everything is not caused by ghosts, Y/n," Sam says as he turns back to look at you. You mouth out 'shut up' to him and look at Dean. He raises his eyebrows but smirks.

"I know a good place to start. I'm hungry for a little barbecue."

~~

"Welcome!" A middle-aged man with graying hair greets you and the boys.

"Is this the barbecue?" Dean asks while smiling.

"Yeah, not the best weather, but..." You look up at the clouds gathering over the area. "I'm Larry Pike, the developer around here. And you are?"

"Dean. This is Sam and Y/n."

"So, you two are interested in Oasis Plains," Larry says as he smiles, looking at Sam and Dean. You frown at why he says two instead of three. Dean answers him.

"Yes, sir."

He looks between you guys and raises his eyebrows for a second but smiles again. "Let me just say that we accept homeowners of any race, religion, color or...sexual orientation."

You start laughing and Dean clarifies their relation.

"So... This isn't your daughter?" You stop laughing and look at Larry.

"I'm 21!" You say as Sam and Dean chuckle.

"Uh- well, come on in." He beckons you inside awkwardly and you still feel your cheeks heating up. Sam elbows you slightly and you look up at him smiling and give him your bitch face.

You follow them as Larry talks about the place. He introduces you guys to his wife. You meet a lady named Linda Bloom. She was the second to move into the neighborhood. She looked like a stoic person with her hair tied up in a tight bun.

After her being the second person to make the mistake of assuming that Sam and Dean were in a relationship, Dean hits Sam's ass when he walks away, leaving you with Linda and Sam.

You walk around and leave Sam with Linda. He did give you the puppy dog stare but you would need more if you were going to withstand someone like Linda. She just gave you vibes suggesting that she was obnoxious.

Your attention goes to a teenage boy who's looking at Linda as he places a huge spider on the table she was standing next to. You walk over to him.

"Hey." He looked startled to see you but turns back to look at Linda.

"Hey." He replies while smiling.

"That yours?" You ask. You look at Sam who's looking between you and the kid. Sam walks past Linda and collects the spider in his hand. You feel yourself gag as he walks over to you with it.

The boy turns to you as he takes the spider and answers your question. "Why? You gonna tell my dad?"

Before you can answer, Sam does. "I don't know. Who's your dad?" He must have heard your question.

You feel yourself involuntarily move back from the kid after seeing him play with the spider.

"Oh, yeah. Larry usually skips me in the family introductions."

"Larry Pike. The developer?" You ask, feeling a tinge of pity for the kid.

"Ouch. First name bases with the old man? Sounds pretty grim." Sam says and you look at the kid with concern written all over your face.

"Well, I'm not exactly brochure material."

"Having bugs as pets is...pretty cool." You say and give him a small smile.

"Yeah, hang in there. It gets better." Sam says and gives him a small nod.

The kid looks up from playing with his spider and looks between the two of you. "Your kids must be lucky." He mutters.

You feel your cheeks heat up and you choke on air.

"That's kind but we're just friends," Sam says and you notice his dark cheeks.

"Matthew!" You look back to see Larry and Dean walking towards the both of you.

"I'm sorry for my son and his...pet," Larry says with a stern look on his face.

"It's no bother," Sam says and you nod your head at Matt which he reciprocates. You look back up at Sam and purse your lips. His cheeks were still dark you notice. Yours were too.

Larry and Matt leave and Sam speaks when Dean reaches. "Remind you of anybody?"

Dean shrugs and Sam answers his own question. "Dad?"

You frown as you think that Sam and Dean's dad would be as strict as Larry.

Dean looks at you before answering. "Dad never treated us like that."

Sam chuckles. "Dad never treated you like that. You were perfect. He was all over my case."

Dean shakes his head and you nervously chuckle. "Seems like a family matter so I'm going to skedaddle my ass over to the barbecue." You walk away and don't turn around when Sam calls you.

Those guys had family issues, you think and walk over to the appetizing food stands.

~~

"I've heard of killer bees, but killer beetles?" You say as you go through their dad's journal.

"I do not appreciate sitting in the back, Y/n!" Dean whines from the backseat. You turn to Sam who was driving the car and grin.

"But what is it that is making different bugs attack?" You ask again and pass the journal to Dean when he asked for it.

"Well, haunting sometimes includes bug manifestations," Sam says, occasionally looking away from the road at you and Dean.

"Yeah, but I didn't see any evidence of ghost activity," Dean says, leaning in front.

"EMF?" You ask, recalling it from the journal. Sam nods and has a slight smile on his lips. "Yeah, me neither."

"Maybe they're being controlled somehow. By something or someone." Dean guesses.

"You mean like 'Willard'?"

"Yeah, bugs instead of rats," Dean says and you frown, not understanding the reference.

"There are cases of psychic connections between people and animals, elementals, telepaths."

"So, like Snow White?" You ask and turn to Sam. You look back to Dean giving you a judgy look.

"Yeah, somewhat like Snow White," Sam says and Dean gives him the look.

"It's like I don't know you, Sam," Dean mutters and you chuckle.

"Larry's kid, bugs for pets," Dean says.

"Matt?" You ask.

"Yeah."

"Well, he did try to scare the realtor with a Tarantula." You nod as you agree with Sam.

"Think he's our Willard?"

"I don't know. Anything's possible, I guess." Sam replies warily. He turns to you with furrowed brows and you knew he was probably thinking what you were.

Matt seemed harmless. Just a kid who had an obsession with insects. He probably wasn't even here last year and why would he kill a gas-company guy? It was-

You turn back when you hear Dean grumbling something. "It's not fair, sitting in the back of my own car." He kept mumbling as you looked at Sam with an amused look on your face.

"Ooh! Pull up here." Dean says suddenly and Sam stops the car in front of a villa.

"What are we doing here?" You ask as you look at the pretty house.

Dean gets out and you and Sam follow him after sharing a look.

"It's too late to talk to anybody else."

"We're going to squat in an empty house?" Sam asks in a disbelieving tone.

"I wanna try the steam shower. Come on!" Dean says as he opens the garage door completely and beckons you guys to follow him. You chuckle at his excuse.

"You know what? I think me too." You say as you smile slyly and walk backwards into the garage looking at Sam as he looks down and chuckles. You wink at him and walk into the garage while Sam gets into the car and drives it in, hitting Dean while doing it. Dean looked around for people and finally shut the garage door.

~~

"THIS IS AWESOME!" You shout from the shower, hoping that the boys would hear you. It had been a considerable amount of time since you had taken a shower. Your mom would have given you a lecture if she knew.

The thing you found extraordinary about stuff like this was that if a girl put on perfume, it wouldn't last for more than an hour. Two, tops.

But for guys! One spray of deodorant and it would last them all through a freakin zombie apocalypse.

You hear a knock on the door and swear. "Seriously?"

You wrap a towel around your body. You look down. It was incredibly small, hardly covering up your goods but you open the door nevertheless.

You see Sam with his hand up, looking like he was going to knock once more. His eyes roam your body and he sputters while his cheeks and neck become red.

"Sam." You breathe out, slightly irritated that he interrupted your fun just to stutter.

It was cute, though.

"What do you want?" You ask, closing the door a bit to cover your body.

"Uh- a police scanner- sorry, a call came in on the scanner. Someone was found dead three blocks from here." He says, looking anywhere but at you.

"Okay, hold on. Let me get ready." You shut the door and walk over to the steam shower. "I've gotta get me one of these." You say and you start getting ready.

~~

Sam hoists you up the fence of the house and you cross it and climb into the window after Dean.

You guys were currently in Linda Bloom's house who had died the previous night. After trying to ask Larry about what happened and when he said that he didn't know, the three of you decided to investigate yourselves when the police left.

The first thing that you see when you walk in is the tape that shows where the body was found. Sam shuts the window as you make your way to the bathroom where the glass of the shower cubicle was broken. There were glass shards scattered on the bathroom floor and you walked carefully. Unlike the guys' shoes, you were pretty sure that glass would pierce through the soles of yours.

A towel lay in the middle of the bathroom. You turn around to see Sam and Dean looking at you expectantly and you speak. "Oh, hell no. I'm not lifting it."

Dean lets out a sigh and Sam half-smiles. Dean walks over and lifts the towel. Dead spiders fall out and you reel back.

"Spiders." You say as you look at Sam.

"Yeah, no shit, Sherlock. From spider boy?"

You and Sam correct Dean at the same time. "Matt." He looks at you but you don't. You keep your eyes on the spiders. If anyone of them started moving, you were out of there.

"Maybe," you reply.

~~

Walking into the forest, you kept on muttering under your breath. You guys had caught Matt sneaking into the forest and you guys decided to follow him. After a few accusations and defending, he said that he had to show you guys something and dragged you further in. He asked if you guys were the serial killers but what he was the serial killer!?

You brush off the thought and took a sharp breath every time something touched you.

"Stupid forest. Stupid place. Stupid, stupid bugs-"

"Are you alright?" Sam asks as he chuckles when he hears what you were saying.

You look ahead and see Matt walking with Dean. You furrow your brow, thinking that it would be the other way round.

"Something up with you two?" You ask. He sighs and searches for words. "You don't have to tell me but you have to promise me to not let this ruin things between you."

He nods as you say it.

"Pasts are... sometimes, tough to think about. And I'm not going to pity you, Sam, because I know you wouldn't want me to. I just- I don't know what to do." You say, suddenly feeling helpless. Sam stops walking and steps in front of you. "Sam, what are you-"

"You don't have to do anything, Y/n," he cuts you off. "Just... be who you are. You're like a ray of sunshine between all of this," he gestures around him. "And we need you."

You look down, feeling your cheeks burn. "I'm not so sure about-"

"Don't you dare say it." You look up and see Sam clenching his jaw. "You've got to be blind if you can't see it. Yeah, maybe it's because we haven't been hunting together for a long time but I have a feeling that you're going to save us, Y/n."

You roll your eyes at his words but feel tears in them. Not in your 21 years of living had someone appreciated you like that. Without saying anything, you bury your face his chest and wrap your hands around his body. You feel his body vibrate when he chuckles and he hugs you back.

"Oh, get a room!" Dean shouts and you pull away from Sam. He gives you a smile and before you do anything you regret, you walk ahead and stop next to Matt and Dean.

In the clearing, you heard crickets chirping. You heard way more sounds but didn't know what was making them.

"I've been keeping track of the insect population," you raise your eyebrows at the dedication this guy had. "It's for my A.P science class."

"You guys are like peas in a pod," says Dean as he looks at Sam and Matt. That earned the first small smile from you since you had entered the forest.

"What's been happening?" Sam asks, ignoring Dean.

"A lot. I mean, from bees to earthworms...beetles...you name it. It's like they're congregating here.

"Ah, balls!"

~

After the disgusting adventure you guys had in the forest, you had dozed off.

Dean had tried waking you up when you guys reached the nearby college but Sam stopped him. "Let her sleep, man. She's new to all this."

Dean just raised his eyebrows but he respected Sam's words.

~~

"So what are we doing here again?" You ask, shielding your eyes from the sun. You had just woken up and the sun's light hurt your eyes.

"The skull goes back to 170 years and around that time, a tribe-"

"Euchee," Sam interrupts.

"Right. They lived there at that time. So now, we're trying to figure out what exactly happened."

You nod as you guys enter the diner. Sam and Dean walk towards an old man sitting in a booth, sorting cards.

"Joe White Tree?" Sam asks and the man nods. "We'd like to ask you a few questions if that's all right."

"We're students from the university." But the man immediately sees through Dean's lies and answers back.

"No, you're not. You're lying."

"Uh- well, the truth is-"

"You know who starts sentences with 'truth is'? Liars."

You stifle a giggle and speak. "May I?" You ask, gesturing to the booth. He nods and you continue speaking while settling into the seat. "Sir, have you heard of the Oasis Plains? It's a housing development near the Atoka Valley."

Joe looks up and looks at the older Winchester for a moment. "I like her. She's not a liar. And polite, too."

You feel yourself grin and you look up at Dean who runs his hand down his mouth. The man looks back at you.

"I know the area."

"What can you tell us about the history there?" Sam asks and glances at you as he does.

"Why do you want to know?"

You speak before the boys can. "Something bad is happening in Oasis Plains. People are dying and we're trying to figure out why it's happening. We think it's related to some old bones we found down there."

"Native American Bones," Sam adds in. You look at him for a second and turn back to the man who looks gravely down at the table. Joe nods and speaks again.

"I'll tell you what my grandfather told me. What his grandfather told him. Two hundred years ago, a band of my ancestors lived in that valley. One day, the American cavalry came to relocate them. They were resistant, the cavalry impatient. As my grandfather put it, on a night the moon and the sun shared the sky as equals, the cavalry first raided our village. They murdered, raped," you wince slightly and look at Sam who was looking at you.

"The next day, the cavalry came again, and the next and the next. And on the sixth night, the cavalry came one last time and by the time the sun rose, every man, woman, and child was dead. They say on the sixth night as the chief of the village lay dying, he whispered to the heavens, that no white man would ever tarnish this land again. Nature would rise up and protect the valley. And it would bring as many days of misery and death to the white man, as the cavalry had brought upon his people."

"Insects. Sounds like nature to me. Six days?"

"And on the night of the sixth day, none would survive."

~

"That was disturbing." You say as you walk out of the diner. You noticed Sam stealing glances at you every now and then and made a mental note to talk to him about it.

"When did the gas-company man die?" Sam asks.

"We got here on Tuesday," you say, trying to recall. "So, Friday the 20th." You look up at Sam.

"March 20th? That's the Spring Equinox."

"The night the sun and the moon share the sky as equals?" Dean asks and you feel the panic creep up on you.

"So every year, about this time, everybody in Oasis plains is in danger. Larry built this place on cursed land."

You scoff when you hear what Sam says. "Guys, the sixth night. That's tonight."

"If we don't do something, Matt's family will be dead by sunrise," Sam says as the three of you get into the Impala.

"So, how do we break a curse?" You ask, shielding your eyes from the evening sun.

"You don't break a curse. You move out of its way," Dean says and you scoff once again.

"We've got to get those people out now."

~~

"Yes, Mr. Pike. There's a main-line gas leak in your neighborhood...Well, it's fairly extensive. I don't want to alarm you but you need to clear everyone out the vicinity for at least 12 hours to be safe...Travis Weaver. I work for Oklahoma Gas and Power...Uh-"

Dean shuts the phone in frustration and Sam snatches it from him. "Give it to me."

You were freaking out. Like crazy. Nature's call. A bunch of insects. You didn't like the sound of that. You tried staying calm but your heartbeat just went crazier. And Dean's rash driving made you sick.

"Matt, it's Sam... Matt, just listen. You have to get your family out of your house right now... Because something's coming... Yeah, a lot more... You gotta make him listen, okay-"

"Give me the phone. Give me the phone!" Dean yells as he struggles to keep his eyes on the road and on Sam. "Matt, under no circumstances can you tell them the truth. He'll just think that your nuts... Pretend to have a sharp pain in your right side and you gotta go to the hospital." Dean cuts the call and looks at Sam as if he were crazy. "'Make him listen.' What were you thinking?" You furrow your eyebrows.

~~

"Y/n, stay here."

You roll your eyes but don't object. As soon as the boys convinced them to leave, you guys would leave too. You sink back in the seat and take out your phone.

"Behave, okay?" Dean says jokingly and you stick your tongue out to him.

You look up after a minute to see Larry and Matt outside too.

"Why aren't they leaving?" You ask yourself and shift to the side of the seat, closer to the house. You look at your phone worriedly and see the time. It was 12 a.m. They ought to be coming now. You look back up at them and see Larry shout something at Matt but he shouted back. You get worried. They should be leaving.

"The hell," you mutter and get out of the car. You stand there and were about to shout at them but then you hear it. The buzzing and chirping of bees and crickets.

"Sam!" You shout and he turns and looks at you.

"Y/n!" He shouts back and starts walking towards you but Dean pulls him back. You look at where he was looking and swear.

The swarm of bees blocked out the light of the moon as they flew closer and closer. You look back at Sam who was shouting and fighting against Dean. He was looking at you with wild eyes as you stood frozen there.

"Y/n! Get in the car!" Dean shouts and you feel your senses come back. You get in the car and pull up all the windows and breathe heavily. You close the AC and sit back.

The bees blanketed the car and blocked out all light. You swallow hard and try to hold down your tears. You were going to die tonight. You were going to-

You get cut off by a call. You frantically reach for your phone, see the caller ID and take the call.

"Sam," you sob.

"Y/n! Y/n! Please tell me you're alright." Sam says frantically with worry lacing his voice. You smile sadly to yourself. The last thing you would want to do is worry Sam Winchester.

"Uh- I'm fine. I'm in the car." Half of it was true. You yelp when the car shakes.

"Y/n! That's- what's happening?"

Your throat constricts slightly like a ball got lodged in there. Your voice comes out shaky as you speak into the phone, your eyes darting to every window in the car, checking to see for any cracks. "Sam. It looks bad here. I can't see a thing beyond the car. It's so dark, oh my god. Oh my god-"

"Y/n. Please. Just wait for me, Y/n. Wait for six to seven hours. I'll be there, Y/n. I promise. Y/n, I-"

He stops speaking. You frown and bring your phone down. Of course, the battery died. Your heart pounds in your chest as you sit silently in the dark, only the loud, incessant buzzing from the bees keeping you company. It was everywhere, all around you. You swear loudly and slot your hands over your ears, trying to block off the sound. You were safe. You could survive this.

~~~
You stayed awake the entire night. The buzzing didn't exactly give you a reason to calm down.
After hours, you could see light. You sit up in the car seat and smile. You had outlasted them. On your own. All the bugs fly off and you get out of the car. You don't stretch but bolt straight to the house and push the door open. There were a few dead bees on the floor. You walked around carefully.
"Y/n." You look up and see Sam and Dean standing on the staircase.
"Sam," you breathe out. It was like a cheesy chick-flick. You walked to the base of the steps and he rushed down the stairs.
"Sam," you breathe out again and feel tears in your eyes. You hug him tightly and he hugs you tight as well. You inhaled his scent- the comforting scent you had grown accustomed to. You pulled back and looked up at him.
"Oh my god! Sam! You've got stung," you gasp as you move his face side to side with your hand. He chuckles but doesn't stop you. "We have to put ointment on that. And there too. Oh my god-"
"Y/n," he breathes out and smiles.
"What?" You look up at him. You notice that he was still holding you. He hugs you once more and you bury your face in his chest. You pull away and hit him.
"Ow! What was that for?"
"If you ever do that again, Sam Winchester, I will kill you," you breathe out as you blink out the tears.
"Uh- we survived the bug apocalypse too."
You look behind Sam and barrel into that person. "Dean," you breathe out as he hugs you too.
"You guys are stung. Let's go. We have to put something on that."
You look at Matt, Larry, and his wife once, noting they were fairly unhurt and drag the boys behind you to the Impala.
~~
Sam made his way to Matt as he stood next to the dustbin outside their old house.
He was throwing his collection of insects in the bin and Sam raises an eyebrow.
"Why?" Sam stretches out the word jokingly.
"They kind of weird me out now," Matt says, smiling.
The boy looked so happy now, Sam notes and felt himself smile.
"I sure hope so," he responds, making the teen chuckle wryly.
Matt glances at you talking to Dean, and back at Sam. "I'm sorry if what I said at the party, like, made things awkward between you guys."
Sam smiles good-naturedly. "No, no man you're good. Honest mistake."
"Do many people make that mistake?" He asks jokingly but Sam hesitates in responding, sensing that Matt wasn't really joking.
"No," Sam says with a smile, squinting his eyes a bit. "But no, things aren't weird."
"Huh," the teenager says, looking down a bit. Sam bumps his shoulder against his and jokingly enquires what he meant by that.
"I mean. I saw the way you look at her when she's not looking. Or her looking at you." He shrugs. "It's not hard to miss, man."
An unexpected laugh bursts from Sam. What? That was...random. Doubt starts creeping into his mind. Matt raises his shoulders defensively. "What?" He exclaims, a laugh already bubbling on his lips. "Mom watches a lot of reality TV. I pick up on things now," he says sagely and with a mischievous smile continues. "Plus, she's hot."
Sam hits him lightly on the head. "Hey!" It was nice, seeing a boy who was just like him have fun. Something that was broken inside him was healing.
Matt continues talking but Sam turns his head to the side, looking over to where you and Dean are leaning against the Impala. Dean's hands moved animatedly as he explained the events of the night to you and he could see you cut into the story to add remarks or ask questions, much to Dean's dismay. Sam smiles to himself, his heart growing bigger slightly.
Huh.
His smile is quickly changed to a frown and he turns back to Matt, trying his best to pay attention to what he saying. He turns back at you once more before shaking his head slightly.
"So, yeah. Fighting and winning against a horde of bees. One item ticked off my bucket list," Dean says, holding both his hands in front of him and shrugging indifferently. "Call me the greatest hunter ever."
"Not when I'm alive," you joke, immediately laughing louder when Dean rolls his eyes at you.
As your laugh dies down, you look towards Sam. He was talking with Matt, the both of them laughing together. Everything just felt happier and better now. After all that happened the previous night,  everyone was relieved.
"What happened?"
You turn to look at Dean. You must've been making a weird face. If he was starting to trust you with his life, you might as well trust him with your feelings.
"You were right," you breathe out and look back at Sam.
Dean raises his eyebrows. "Okay. Right about what?"
"I...have feelings for him," you say slowly. "I don't know how and when but-"
"I know," Dean says quietly and looks at Sam too. "Why are you telling me this?" He asks after a while.
You shrug and look back at him. "I guess it feels nice to say it out loud." You sigh.
"I'm here for you, Y/n. You can tell me anything," he says.
"Thanks, Dr. Phil," you smile up at him. He chuckles and puts an arm around your shoulders and gives you a side hug. You giggle.
"What's got you guys acting all cute together?" Sam chuckles as he walks over to the car, his eyes lingering on you a bit long. You shoot him a questioning look but he ignores it. Dean takes his hand back and turns to Sam.
"Dean, I want to find Dad."
"Yeah, me too."
"Yeah, but I just... I want to apologize to him."
You chose not to interrupt their conversation. It would be better if you listened.
"For what?"
"All the things I said to him. He was just doin' the best he could."
"Well, don't worry, we'll find him. And you'll apologize... and within five minutes you'll be at each other's throats."
You and Sam chuckle.
"Yeah, probably. Let's hit the road."
"Let's."
Dean and Sam get off the side of the car and get inside.
"Yeah, well don't wait for me to answer," you mutter. Sam chuckles and you wink at him, getting inside the Impala.
