Chapter 17 of 25

16 | Shadow

A/n: W/y/l- Where you live.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Minneapolis, Minnesota

"At least walk me to the door?" You ask Sam when he refused to join you and your family for dinner.

You guys were standing in front of your house. The old one. Your parents came here from time to time for some reason.

It still had Y/b/n's room and wasn't as fancy as your parents' penthouse they owned in W/y/l.

The boys had caught wind of a case in Chicago where people had suffered violent deaths and they thought that something supernatural happened to them.

Your mom was a stubborn one and you knew that she would convince Sam and Dean to stay for dinner.

You smirk as Sam gets out of the car and takes your duffel bag from your hand and escorts you to the door.

A few seconds after you knocked, the door was opened by none other than your grinning mother.

She sweeps you into a hug and mumbles in excitement about how she hadn't seen you and how different you looked.

You chuckle before pulling back.

"Mom, this is Sam."

Your mom ushers the two of you in after hugging Sam; which he reciprocated awkwardly.

Sam stands there awkwardly as your dad walks in and hugs you too.

"My princess is back! Let the feast begin!" He says loudly and you giggle.

"Dad, this is Sam. My friend from college," you gesture to the Winchester.

"Nice to meet you, Sammy," he says as he shakes Sam's hand. Your eyes widen when you realize that Sam might not be liked being called Sammy but he smiles widely and shakes your dad's hand.

"Great to meet you too, sir," Sam says with a smile that showed his dimples.

"That's a tough grip. He's a keeper, Y/n!" Your dad remarks with a sly smile.

You choke on your saliva. Your dad always did this.

Your dad was pretty casual with who you dated and made fun most of the time whereas your mom was strict.

Your mom clears her throat and you stand straight. Sam just chuckles and looks on in amusement.

"Friends, Dad. Friends," you say as you give Sam an apologetic look.

"Well, I wish I could stay, but-"

"But what, mister?" Your mom asks with raised eyebrows as she shuts the door behind him.

You chuckle to yourself. You knew that poor Sammy was probably already scared by now.

He looks at you, quite surprised (you shrug in response) and back at your mom.

"Uh, family business," Sam says after a while.

"Well, it can wait. Now go call whoever is in your car and get back here," she says in a stern voice and you start to pity Sam. Your mom could become scary in times like this.

"Yes, Mrs. Y/l/n," he responds quietly and you laugh soundlessly as you turn to walk into the kitchen and Sam goes out to call Dean.

~~

"This. Pie. Is. Amazing!" Dean says as he stuffs his mouth with your mom's apple pie. Crumbs of food flew out from his mouth as he spoke.

Your mom chuckles and Sam gives Dean his bitch face before turning back to your mom and smiling.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Y/l/n. My brother lacks table manners."

"Oh, nevermind that, Sam. Call me Y/m/n."

"So, how has your road trip been?" Your dad asks as he looks at the three of you.

You had been careful to put makeup on that nasty bruise of yours that you had got from when that creepy man hit you with his gun in the last case.

"It's been good," you say with a smile.

"Yeah," Sam nods.

"What made you take the road trip? It was so... spontaneous," your mom asks and you groan.

"Mom-"

"After losing Jess, I just needed time to collect myself," Sam says as he interrupts you.

You look at him worriedly and smile a bit when he looks at you.

"Jess was my girlfriend," he adds in again.

An awkward silence settles into the room which was only disrupted by the sound of Dean scraping his spoon on the plate.

"Uh, we should get going now," Sam says as he gets up and picks up his plate.

Your mom and dad get up too with their plates. Your mom takes Sam's plate and looks at him.

"Nonsense. It's already dark outside. You guys should leave in the morning."

You smile at Sam slyly and he gives you the bitch face before responding to your mom.

"We would hate to impose, Mrs. Y/l/n," Sam says.

"I wouldn't mind," Dean mumbles as he licks his spoon.

"You're not imposing, son. We don't mind Y/n's friends over," your dad's voice wafts from the kitchen where your mom was there too.

"Good looking ones at that too," you hear your mom say and you groan. She might have had too many glasses of champagne.

Sam and Dean chuckle.

Sam looks down at Dean questioningly. You stare at them with a raised eyebrow. Obviously, they were having some secret telepathic conversation with their eyes.

After what seems to be forever, Dean turns to you with a grin and stands up before walking into the kitchen.

"Okay," Sam mumbles with a small smile after sighing.

~~

Sam walks into the room Y/m/n had offered to him. There was a guest bedroom downstairs where Dean was sleeping.

Though the brothers were reluctant to sleep that far apart from each other, you had convinced them that they were safe here.

Sam looks at the minimal room. There was a poster of a rock band on the wall and a few pictures on the drawers.

He walks over and chuckles quietly when he sees your pictures as a baby. You were with your mom and dad and a small boy.

Sam settles the picture down and takes a round of the room before throwing his duffel bag on the bed and flopping himself down on it.

After a few minutes of resting on the amazingly comfortable bed unlike motel beds, Sam opens up his bag to take out his pajamas.

While changing, he hears the door open and someone swear.

"Shit, I'm sorry," you say as you cover your eyes and close the door slightly.

Sam chuckles seeing how flustered you got seeing him shirtless. He slides the T-shirt over his torso and opens the door to see you standing outside.

"Hey," he says as he leans against the door frame and looks down at you lazily. You were wearing a flimsy tank top and shorts.

You pass by him and into the room. Sam unlatches himself from the door frame and furrows his eyebrows at how you glanced around the room.

"Uh, your parents are amazing to let Dean and me..." He trails off when he sees how unresponsive you were.

"This was my brother's room," you whisper after a while, your back still to him.

A wave of confusion followed by realization passes through Sam. The boy in the photo.

"What happened to him?" Sam asks as he takes a step forward.

"Car accident," your voice breaks as you lift the photo from the table and look at it.

It was from your princess themed birthday party. Your brother was a knight while you were a princess.

Sam's mind clicks. It was all coming together. The scar you got from the car accident. How you didn't want to talk about it.

"I almost died that day," you say as you turn to him. You point to your left side and lift your shirt slightly. "The amount of blood I lost... The doctors said that it was a miracle how I survived. Y/b/n... He couldn't make it."

Sam didn't know how but suddenly you were in his arms sobbing hard. He holds you tightly and places his lips on the top of your head.

You smelled of roses and vanilla and it was so intoxicating. Sam's eyes fluttered shut but opened wide when he realized that you were crying.

He shushes you as your body rattles against his and whispers reassurances in your ear.

~~

"Y/n," you hear your mom whisper in your ear.

You groan and try turning but aren't able to. You ignore it and don't open your eyes. "What, mom?"

"What are you doing?" She asks again and you open your eyes.

The light shone into the room and you could see the dust particles floating in the air. Your mom stood in front of you in her pajamas with her hands on her hips and raised eyebrows.

Your body suddenly acknowledges the heat from behind and something holding you and you wince when you remember what happened last night.

"Not again," you groan and your mom's mouth hangs open.

"Not again? Not again!?" She says the second time raising her voice a bit and Sam stirs behind you.

Your mom sighs before walking out of the room.

When you hear the door shut, you place your hands on Sam's huge ones to pry them off you but he just snuggles into your back more.

Your legs were tangled together and you could feel his breath stirring your hair.

You curse yourself when you go through how you guys ended up like this. You had been craving to visit your brother's room but you didn't know how emotional you would get when you entered it. You had a headache when you entered the room but had ignored it. After seeing the pictures of you guys when you were kids, you started tearing up and started sobbing. Fortunately, Sam was there to comfort you and you asked him if you could stay with him.

It was unnecessary, but the feeling that filled you when he hugged you made you feel special and safe. Like you were the only one who mattered to him.

His hand had trailed circles on your side as you guys laid down and he continued whispering reassurances in your ear. You honestly didn't hear him because you were too exhausted and you immediately dozed off.

And now you were in this pickle. Your mom probably thought you guys were doing it.

You didn't want to wake him up but his arms were tight around you and he refused to let you go.

"Sam," you whisper as you tilt your head to look at him. You couldn't see his face, though.

"Sammy," you whisper again, a bit loudly and he mumbles something.

You feel a wave of embarrassment go through you. You couldn't bear seeing his reaction to the two of you cuddling.

"Sam. Wake up," you say and he opens his eyes slightly.

His arms immediately retract from around your waist and you shut your eyes in regret. You felt...cold now.

The heat from your back disappears and you sit up to see Sam looking at you with mouth open and cheeks flustered.

"I'm sorry," you say as you frown. You get off the bed and straighten your clothes. "I shouldn't have-"

"No, Y/n," he shakes his head as he shakes off the feeling of holding you in his arms. He looks up at you with a small smile. "I'm happy that I was there for you."

"Okay," you say as you look down. You feel your cheeks heat up. "I'm going to let you pack up."

"Yeah," Sam says as he smiles at you a bit.

You leave the room and after closing the door, let out a breath you didn't know you were holding.

~~

"Promise to call me every night," you say to Sam and Dean as you guys stand in front of the Impala.

Sam smiles and Dean rolls his eyes.

"Yes, Y/n. You told us like a hundred times," Dean says and you chuckle.

"Well, can't have you guys dying, can I? And I'll come when you want me to. Anytime."

Dean nods and walks away. Sam puts his hands in his pockets and looks at you with pursed lips.

"I'm sorry for last night," you say again.

"No, it's fine. It's happened before," he says awkwardly and your eyes widen.

The last time was on his birthday but you had gotten off the bed before he woke up.

You chuckle nervously before hugging him.

"Bye, Sam."

"Bye, Y/n," he says and waves at you before getting into the Impala.

You smile bitterly before making your way back to the house.

~~

You were on your way to see Allison, your brother's girlfriend. Or his girlfriend before he died.

She would be your brother's age if he was alive, so around 26.

After the boys left, you asked your parents the questions on your mind but your mom just told you to eat your breakfast. You were 21 and your mom was changing the topic by telling you to eat.

You roll your eyes as you think about it. Maybe Allison would answer you.

Allison was the kindest person you'd ever known. When you were 11 and had first met her, she had given you a necklace of a mermaid ( you were going through a phase) that you wore every day till you lost it in your accident.

You ring the bell of the small house two blocks away. You told your parents that you were meeting an old friend and went to the house that Allison lived seven years ago. You hoped that she still lived there.

The door is opened by the brunette.

"Allison? It's Y/n Y/l/n. Y/b/n's sister," you say with an awkward smile and see as her face lights up in recognition.

"Y/n! Come in! How are you?" She asks and gestures for you to enter.

"How's Y/b/n?" She asks with a smile and you frown.

"This has got to be a sick joke, right?" You ask with a heavy feeling in your heart.

"Why?" She asks, still smiling. You look around the room to see if there was anyone else. Maybe someone taking a video or laughing. When you see no one, you look back at her.

"You know what? Maybe this wasn't a good idea," you say and scoff at her confused face before exiting the house.

"Y/n! Wait! What happened to Y/b/n?" She asks. You falter in your steps. She actually looked confused.

"You were his girlfriend, you should know that he died SEVEN YEARS AGO!" You say sarcastically as hot tears flow down your cheeks.

Allison looks at you with wide eyes. "What? I- what are you talking about?"

You shake your head and look down as you try to blink your tears away. You came for answers and now were a second away from becoming a mess.

"I was never Y/b/n's girlfriend," she says as she puts her hand on your shoulder.

You have half the mind to flinch away from her touch but you stop when you hear what she says. "You're kidding, right?" You ask hysterically.

"I'm not, Y/n. We hardly knew each other!" She says when you start walking away.

After walking in a random direction for a while, you let the tears hit.

Why would she say something like that?

Just because he's dead didn't mean that she completely forgets the fact that they dated. For three years!

You slide down to your knees and sob uncontrollably into your hands. Onlookers looked on with raised eyebrows and judgy stares. But you didn't care.

Her reaction angered you. Her casualness and obliviousness.

How had she not known that he had died?

You feel arms on your shoulders pulling you up. You keep your face hidden with your hands as you sob into them.

"Excuse me, ma'am. Are you fine?" A man of British accent asks.

You uncover your face and take a few deep breaths and look up at the man.

"Y/n?" The blue eyes gaze into yours.

"Chris?"

~~

"What are you doing here?" You ask as you take a sip of your drink.

Chris had dragged you to a nearby cafe to buy you a drink after he found you a mess on the pavement. He had brushed the dust off your jeans and had held you like you were made of porcelain the whole way.

"I told you that I moved a lot for my job. So, I have a meeting here."

"Oh," you nod and purse your lips. You couldn't wait to call Sam that night and tell him all the craziness that had happened. It would be just like at Stanford when you would call him when you needed help for your assignment or when you were tired with existence.

"So, are we going to talk about what happened?" He asks in a polite voice.

You give him a wary smile. "No. Probably not."

He nods and you turn around to look at how crowded the cafe was.

You squint at the front page of the newspaper that was in the bookstand by the cashier's desk.

"Can you excuse me?" You look at Chris before walking to the bookstand and taking the newspaper. You pay for it and walk back to the table as you read it.

Twenty-nine-year-old Natasha Smith found dead by her husband, Austin Smith... Bite marks on her neck... Blood drained... Police don't know what happened.

You sit down and continue reading the article when you hear someone coughing. You look up at Chris and chuckle awkwardly before putting the newspaper away.

"Sorry."

"No, that's alright. Was that the article about the death of that woman? Natasha?"

"Yeah," you take a sip of your drink.

"One of the many attacks that happened here," he says and you frown.

"How many have happened before?"

"When I came a week ago, there had already been two cases," he says as he squints trying to remember.

You try wracking your brain because you had read of a creature like that in John's journal.

It was a vampire!

"A what?" Chris looks at you questioningly and your eyes widen.

Did I say that out loud? Shit.

"A vampire is a mythical creature," you say slowly. "And they die when you behead them."

"I think anyone would die if you behead them," Chris says as his face scrunches up in confusion.

You chuckle nervously and change the subject to the most random thing which was at the top of your head.

~

"Mom, what are you doing?" You ask as you enter your room slowly.

She was sitting on your messy bed and looking at something in her hand.

She looks up and smiles a bit and looks back down at her hand.

"Do you know that saying? You should see the pictures a person takes because they take pictures of what they're most afraid to lose."

She shows you what was in her hand. It was the picture of Sam sitting on the Impala.

You sigh and take the picture from your mom. While looking at it, you speak. "It's just one picture, mom."

"I saw all of them in your bag," she remarks and you freeze a bit.

Okay, maybe you hadn't put all of the pictures you had taken if Sam in the album. You kept the ones that held a more special place in your heart.

And what if the guys or you had kept some weapon or something in your bag by mistake?

But if you had, she would have brought that up first.

"That's- I don't-"

"What's happening between you and Sam?" She asks while frowning.

You sigh and sit beside her, the picture still in hand. You find it of no use of lying to your mom. Hopefully, she would have advice on how you could stop or control your feelings. "I don't know. It's like after Jessica, I was...flooded with these emotions. These feelings," you pause, "for Sam."

Your mom purses here lips before answering slowly. "Does he know?"

"No, of course not," you say and look down at the picture again.

She places her hand on your shoulder. "I trust that you will know what to do when the time comes, Y/n/n."

You nod a bit while biting your lip. Your mom kisses your forehead before leaving your room.

~~

"Mom! We have no chocolate!" You shout from downstairs while looking into the refrigerator and rummaging the drawers. It was around nine in the evening and you had a sudden craving for chocolate.

When no one responds, you shout out: "I'm going to the store to get some!"

You were still wearing your jeans and flannel so you just put on a coat and make your way outside with your shoulder bag.

After walking one block, you hear some rustling coming from an alley and you stop walking.

You squint as you try to see in the dark. You glance around you before walking into the alley.

Suddenly, a dark figure, moving too fast for you to see, slams you against the graffitied wall and you groan.

You thrash and struggle against the strong person. You look at the man who looks at you with red eyes. He opens his mouth and you gasp when you see the second set of sharper teeth growing out of his gums. You yelp when he bites into your neck. You thrash and shout but no one comes to save you.

The person chuckles. You try not to cry. The pain was making you feel weak.

You thrash against the person's body with all the strength you could muster.

Your senses started fading in and out as you listen to the animalistic groans the vampire was making as he hungrily fed on your blood.

I'm exhausted. Just let me sleep, a voice in your head says.

You take a deep breath before closing your eyes.

You feel something spray on your face after a second of closing your eyes. You try licking it to see what it was but someone runs something rough across your mouth and you frown when the liquid isn't there anymore.

"Y/n, get up!"

Your eyes flutter open and you look up.

"I'm tired," you say lazily with a small smile. You loved British accents.

"Darling, I need you to stay awake," the voice says again and you feel warm. The warmth invades your tired body and you try pushing into it to get more.

You sigh in happiness when you feel someone put their arms under your back and knees and lifting you.

~~

"What-" you bring your arm up to massage your temples. You had a dulling pain in your head and neck.

You sit up and look around.

You were on a twin bed. The room was quite big with a kitchen and another bed next to yours. By the bad quality of the mattress, you knew where you were.

"Sam?" You ask hopefully. Whoever brought you here must've killed the vampire.

The door of the bathroom suddenly opens and it wasn't who you were expecting.

"Chris?" You ask and look at him as he walks over to where you were and sits. His hair was wet and stuck to his forehead and the back of his neck. He smelled of cinnamon and oranges.

"That vampire drank a lot of your blood," he remarks and you frown.

How does he-

"You're a hunter," you say with wide eyes as he sits beside you. You gaze into his blue eyes.

"How did you get there in time?"

"I was following you. After you said what you said at the cafe, I wanted to see if you were a hunter," he says as your mouth hangs open.

It was weird talking to a hunter other than Sam and Dean. "Uh, that totally explains the stalking," you say sarcastically and he smiles sheepishly.

"I agree that it wasn't the most conventional of ways but I saved you."

You nod a bit.

"You suck as a hunter, by the way," he adds in and you give him your bitch face.

"Gee, thanks."

You look around and see light streaming through the curtains covering the windows.

"Shit, what's the time?" You ask as you get up. That's when you notice what you were wearing.

A black V-neck and your jeans.

"What happened to my flannel?" You ask again before Chris can answer. His cheeks get tinted a bit.

"It was soaked with your blood. I, uh, cleaned you up and gave you one of my shirts," he says awkwardly as he stands up too.

You close your eyes and take a breath.

"And it's like seven," he says again and you move to the dining table where your bag was. You sling it on your shoulder and turn back at him.

"I need to go home."

He looks at you and nods.

~~

After climbing up the side of your house with Chris's help and changing into your own clothes, you made your way downstairs.

Surprisingly enough, your parents didn't notice that you went missing last night.

You run back upstairs and take your phone out.

"Shit," you mutter and bite your lip when you notice the missed calls from Sam and Dean.

You dial Sam's number and bring the phone up to your ear.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Sam," you say awkwardly, hoping that he wouldn't be mad at you for not picking up the previous night. Instead he just excitedly launches into a story of what had happened the previous day. Like you, their day seemed crazy.

They found a sigil on the floor of the victim's apartment that was super old. The thing that killed the victims was a thing called deva? Apparently, they were really old Zoroastrian demons. He says how it was Meg, a girl he met on his way to California that was summoning the demons. You nod your head and smile a bit when he starts saying what he would do if he found the demon that killed their mom.

He also says that in the night, they were going to attack Meg.

"So, what's been going on there?" He asks finally and you purse your lips.

Maybe, it wouldn't be a good idea telling him that a vampire attacked you and the guy you hooked up with was a hunter. Oh, and also you were going crazy because your memories said that Allison was your brother's girlfriend but apparently not.

"Nothing," you say. "Just ordinary stuff."

"Oh," Sam says and you wince. It was obvious that he knew you were lying.

"Sam, I can reach Chicago in a few hours if you want me to. Sounds like you guys will need help."

"No, Y/n. I can't put you in danger," Sam says again and you sigh. It was obvious what you were going to do.

You were going.

~~

"You're leaving after a day?" Your mom asks as she walks you to the main door.

"Mom, I know, but the Winchesters need me," you say and turn to her. You frown when you see the surprised and dark expression on her face.

"What?" You ask.

"Sam and Dean Winchester?" She says and looks back as your dad joins her. They both wore hauntingly dark expressions.

"Yeah," you say, getting scared.

"What's their dad's name, Y/n?" Your dad asks in a quiet voice.

"You guys are scaring me," you say as you take a small step back.

"What's their dad's name?" Your dad growls.

"Dave! It's Dave!" You lie and look at the flash of confusion that goes through their face and they look at each other.

"It's not John?" Your mom asks and you hide your surprise.

"No, it's not! What's wrong with you guys?" You ask as the beating if your heart slows down.

"Nothing, dear," your mom says slowly as your dad lets out a breath and walks away. "Let me help you," she continues as she tries picking your duffel bag off the ground but you beat her to it.

"No, that's fine," you say and giving your mom one last incredulous look, you make your way to the bus stop.

Your mom watches you go and shuts the door when you disappear from her view.

She walks into the dining room to find her husband sitting in the chair with his back hunched over and his face in his hands.

"She was lying," he says, his voice cracking a bit.

Y/m/n makes her way to comfort her weeping husband.

Yes, you were lying. Yes, you were hunting. And, yes, Y/m/n and Y/f/n knew that it was going to happen soon.

~~~
After an exhausting bus ride to Chicago, you make your way to the motel Dean told you they were staying at. He didn't question your arrival.
You open the door with the key you got from the reception and walk-in.
It was dark inside and you hear someone speak.
"Hello, boys," a gruff voice says and you swear loudly.
You flick the light on and see a man with a beard holding a gun at you. You drop your bags and raise your hands.
"Who are you? Where are Sam and Dean?" He asks gruffly and you swear again before answering.
"My name is Y/n Y/l/n! I'm Sam and Dean's friend!"
The man falters and squints his eyes. "You a hunter?"
"Well, you could say that," you say again, your hands slightly shaking.
The man finally puts his gun down and you let go of the breath you were holding.
You study the man as he turns back and walks to the kitchen.
"You're John, aren't you?" You ask and take a cautious step forward.
He grunts in response and you take a deep breath. "I thought you knew me?" You ask as you remember him saying your name to Sam.
Before he can answer, the door of the motel room flies open and you turn to see Sam and Dean with their guns raised.
They probably thought that someone broke into their room because of the lights that were switched on.
Your eyes widen when you see the blood and bruises on Sam and Dean and their eyes widen when they see you and John.
"Dad?" Dean asks in surprise.
"Hello boys," he says and you raise your eyebrow. Sam looks between the two of you, bewildered.
"Dad, it was a trap. I didn't know, I'm sorry," Dean says as he lowers his gun.
"It's all right. I thought it might've been," the eldest Winchester answers with a small smile.
Sam lowered his gun slowly and his eyes roamed your body. He noticed the huge square bandage on your neck.
Meanwhile, you tried not to run to the boys and help them with their wounds.
"Were you there?" Dean asks again.
"Yeah, I got there just in time to see the girl take the swan-dive. She was the bad guy, right?" John asks and you squint when you try thinking who the girl was.
Meg.
"Yes sir," the brothers say in unison.
"Good. Well, it doesn't surprise me. It's tried to stop me before."
"The demon has?"
"It knows I'm close. It knows I'm gonna kill it. Not just exorcise it or send it back to hell. Actually kill it."
You frown when you realize that you can't kill demons.
"How?" You ask and three of the Winchesters look at you. You hang your head in embarrassment but John answers anyway.
"I'm workin' on that," he answers with a smile.
You raise your eyebrows.
How was it that all the Winchesters looked better than average?
You're suddenly flung against the room and you shout in pain as your back slams against the wall.
"Y/n!" You hear Sam shout as your head rolls on the wall. You look down and see the cut on your stomach.
You swear. Another scar.
You feel yourself losing and regaining consciousness.
You see a sharp light in front of you and frown.
The light at the end of the tunnel.
You didn't want to die.
Someone hoists you up and you moan in pain. You start limping with your arms around someone. Your eyes get used to the darkness again and you look around you when you're made to lean against something.
You were leaning against the Impala with your hands pressed against your stomach. You see the red liquid dried around your shirt and dripping from your hands.
You look forward and see the Winchesters talking. Sam was standing beside you and his arm was draped across your shoulders.
You listen lazily as Sam's body vibrates next to yours when he speaks.
"All right, come on. We don't have much time. Soon as the flame's out, they'll be back." He opens the door to help you in but you hear Dean speak.
"Sam wait, wait! Sam, wait. Dad, you can't come with us."
"What?" Sam lets you go and you lean back on the Impala again with a groan. "What're you talkin' about?"
"You guys, you're beat to hell," John says. He glances at you.
"We'll be all right."
"Dean! We should stick together! We'll go after this demon t-"
"Sam, listen to me! We almost got Dad killed in there. Don't you understand, they're not gonna stop. They're gonna try again, they're gonna use us to get to him! I mean Meg was right! Dad's vulnerable when he's with us. He... he's stronger without us around."
Sam turns to John and pleads with him. "Dad. No. After everything. After all the time we spent lookin' for you, please. I gotta be a part of this fight."
"This fight is just starting. And we are all gonna have a part to play. For now, you gotta trust me, son. Okay? You gotta let me go."
Sam nods reluctantly and steps back beside you. You give him a small smile when he looks at you.
"Be careful, boys," John says as he disappears into the dark night.
~~
"Dammit, Y/n! You should have told me that a freakin' vampire attacked you," Sam says after you tell what happened to you and he jabs the needle in your stomach.
You groan in pain and squeeze his shoulder. Sam was stitching up the cut you got from the Shadow demon. He kept one hand on your left side. On your scar. You didn't mind, really. Surprisingly, he was pretty good at stitching wounds but you weren't pain resistant like the guys.
He mumbles an apology but still gives you the bitch face. You scoff and look at Dean who was on the table, for support.
He raises his hands in mock surrender when he sees your pleading look. "That was pretty careless of you, Y/n. And going off with another hunter?"
"Oh, don't get me started on that!" Sam says and jabs the needle into your stomach again.
You wince as the muscles of your stomach contract and you squeeze Sam's shoulder again.
"My parents knew your dad," you say as you remember.
Another jab.
"What?" Sam asks, scrunching his face a bit because of how hard you were clutching his shoulder.
"Yeah, I don't know," you say after taking a breath. "They were pretty freaked out when I mentioned that you guys were Winchesters."
Sam frowns and cuts the thread. You sigh in relief and lie down on the bed in a random motel you guys had found for the night. Sam pulls your shirt down and you blush a bit at how he was taking care of you.
You get up suddenly and regret it instantly because of the pain that goes through your stomach. You ignore it as Sam looks at you questioningly.
"Your cuts," you say as you take the dental floss and needle from him.
He had stitched you and Dean up and was probably going to the bathroom to stitch his cuts up.
A flash of fear goes through his face. "I don't trust you with a needle."
"Ah, you need not worry. I'm great at stitching."
That night, you had made Sam shout twice in frustration and you were sure that your shoulders were bruised because of how hard he clasped them with pain.
[End of Episode 16 | Shadow]
A/n: I have mixed feelings about this chapter...
Meh, it's important to the storyline nonetheless and huge! It's like 6000 words!
Hope you guys enjoyed it and have a great day!
Stay safe.
XOXO
