Chapter 12 of 25

12 | Faith

A/n:<( ̄︶ ̄)☝️ so cute!!

Aaaaand, I'm sorry for posting so late!

••••••••••••••••••

"The electrocution triggered a heart attack. Pretty massive, I'm afraid. His heart, it's damaged," the doctor says.

"How damaged?" Sam asks and all you can do at that point is process what happened. It kept repeating itself in your mind.

You guys were killing a raw-head that ate children and only died from electrocution. Dean electrocuted the bitch but managed to get electrocuted too. Just thinking about it made your head hurt.

"We've done all we can. We can try and keep him comfortable at this point but I'd give him a couple of weeks, a month at most."

You feel the tears welling up in your eyes and you bite your lip to keep it from shaking.

"No, no... There's got to be something you can do. Some kind of treatment." Sam asks quietly. You could see that it was killing him. A flash of pain goes through your head and you bite your lip. Hard. The iron in your blood makes your lip twitch painfully in disgust. It had been happening for months now, flashes of pain passing through your head at random moments. You clench your eyes.

"We can't work miracles. I really am sorry."

"Can we- can we see him?" You ask. The fact that you were crying after only knowing Dean for four months didn't unsettle you. You were usually a very passionate person and always were very caring.

The doctor moves to the side and gestures to you and Sam. You both walk to the room Dean was in and you swiped your tears. There was no need for him to see you with watery eyes.

You faltered when you entered the room. He was so pale. He had dark circles around his eyes and his skin was several tones lighter. He wasn't the Dean Winchester you knew. He looked so weak and tired. The pit in your stomach grew. You moved to stand next to Sam.

"Ever actually watch daytime TV? It's terrible," his voice was soft and slightly throaty. His eyes stayed on the small television at the foot of his bed.

You smile a bit but you were pretty sure it looked like a sad one.

"I talked to your doctor," Sam says after shaking his head.

"That fabric softener teddy bear, ooh," Dean mutters, still not looking at you guys. "I want to hunt that little bitch down."

"Dean," you say in a disapproving voice.

"Yeah?" He switches off the TV and looks up at the two of you. "Right, well. It looks like you're gonna leave town without me."

"What are you talking about?" You ask while moving a bit closer to the bed.

"We're not leaving you here," Sam assures Dean.

"You both better take care of that car. Or I swear I'll haunt your ass."

"I don't think that's funny," Sam shakes his head and you wipe the small smile off your face. Dean sees you before you do and smiles a bit.

"Oh come on. It's a little funny," Dean counters. He speaks again when Sam shakes his head and looks away. "Look, Sammy, what can I say? It's a dangerous gig. I drew the short straw. That's it. End of story."

"Don't talk like that, alright?" Sam says as tears make his eyes shine. He was struggling to keep it together. "We still have options."

"What options? Get burial or cremation," Dean says blandly and you feel your mouth hanging open. He couldn't speak like that.

"Dean!" You almost screech as tears well your eyes and make it hard to see. "What is wrong with you? Would it kill you to be a bit positive?"

Dean looks at you in surprise as you reel back from your outburst.

"I know it's not easy but I'm going to die. And you can't stop it."

"Watch me."

~~

The drive to the motel was silent, both of you thinking what you could do. When you guys still didn't speak after reaching the motel, you sigh.

You get out of the car and follow Sam into the room.

"He's going to be fine," you murmur behind Sam. "We'll figure something out."

"I know, Y/n." He sounded irritated but you shrug it off.

~~

He's going to be fine. He's going to be fine.

You chanted the words in your mind. Dean was going to be fine. By the look on Sam's face, you could see that he was doing the same.

"He's going to be fine," you say out loud and momentarily look up from your laptop. You were looking for treatments for Dean's condition but couldn't find anything yet.

Sam clenches his jaw but doesn't look up from John's journal. "Did you find anything?" He asks in a sharp tone.

You raise your eyebrows and frown a bit before answering. "No, I-"

"So, how about you search for solutions instead of reassuring me that Dean is going to be alright!" He stands up and looks at you with an almost feral expression. You shift back in your seat; never having witnessed Sam getting this angry, or at least not at you.

"Sam-"

"It's my brother that's dying, Y/n. And he needs all the help he can get. So if you aren't helping him, please leave!" He shouts once again and you feel your anger rise. The chair scrapes the wooden floor loudly as you get up and get ready to argue.

"What do you think I'm doing, Sam? I'm trying as much as you are! You- You know what?! I'm actually going to leave!" You walk to the door, grab your shoulder bag and give him an icy glare before slamming the door shut.

Great.

~~

After spending the rest of the day at a small cafe, you decided it was time to face the music. The music being Sam. The one you loved.

The motel room's light shone on the pavement through the window. You sigh a bit, the hopes of Sam being asleep going down.

You were having second thoughts. Maybe you had overreacted. But it was your time of the month and your hormones were fueling your emotions.

You knock on the door when you realize that you didn't grab the room's keys on your way out. Sam opens it after a minute and looks at you with his lips slightly parted.

"Y/n," he breathes out and you purse your lips. He moves to the side and you enter the room, nervously. He shuts the door and looks at you. He was wearing a gray V-neck and pajamas.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have shouted at you. It's just that Dean," he pauses as he searches for words. You turn back to look at him.

"It's fine." You didn't have anything else to say. You throw your bag onto your bed and walk over to the kitchen. You could feel Sam's eyes on you.

"It's fine? That's all you have to say?" He asks with raised eyebrows and you frown.

"Pretty much," you answer and he scoffs. "What'd you have for dinner?"

"Nothing," he sits back down on his bed and takes out his phone. He looks down at his dad's journal and starts punching the buttons of his phone.

"Your kidding. You hardly had anything for lunch too," you say and he looks up at you before looking back down.

Obviously, he was going to do anything for Dean. You knew he wouldn't eat or sleep until he could do something. You sigh and walk over to your bag, removing the extra chocolate overload muffin you got for yourself because it was amazing. You hand it over to Sam with a pained expression.

"Here, eat this."

He looks up and raises his eyebrows with a small smile. "Wait, seriously?"

"Yeah," you say painfully. When he doesn't take it from you, you turn your eyes away from the chocolaty goodness in your hands. "Quick! Before I change my mind!"

He takes it with a startled expression and you flop yourself down on the bed. You stare at the ceiling as a wave of exhaustion goes over you.

"Thanks," he mumbles after inspecting the muffin and taking a bite. He moans in satisfaction and you groan.

"Stop!"

"Stop what?"

"Making me regret giving you my muffin," you pout and you look up at him. He chuckles and breaks off a piece. He chucks it at you and you catch it. You smile gratefully at him and sink your teeth in the perfection. It was amazing!!

"So you let me eat a muffin for dinner but not Dean eat a cake for breakfast?" He asks as he takes another bite.

"There's...a difference," you say, your sentence sounding more of a question than a statement.

"Sure there is," Sam chuckles.

~~

"Call him," you say as you place the plates on the small table. You had made some scrambled eggs with coffee.

"Who?" Sam asks with a mouth full of food. You roll your eyes and sit across him.

"Your dad."

He looks surprised for a second.

"Yeah, I probably should."

It had been three days since Dean had been admitted to the hospital. Three days of research. Fortunately, Sam found a faith healer from his dad's friend. You weren't convinced but it was worth a shot.

Sam finishes his breakfast in three more bites and makes his way to his bed.

You groan when a flash of piercing pain occurs in your head. They were getting crazier.

"You fine?" Sam asks with furrowed eyebrows.

"Huh? Uh- yeah, I'm fine." You give a small smile and sip on your coffee. It was strong and bitter.

"Hey, Dad. It's Sam," you hold your breath. Did their dad actually pick up? "Uh, you probably won't even get this, but, uh, it's Dean," you release the breath you were holding. Sam's voice was shaky and he kept his eyes down. He darted them around before they landed on you. "He's sick, and uh... the doctors say there's nothing they can do. Um. But, uh, they don't know the things we know, right?" You give him a sad smile. "Um. So, don't worry, 'cause, uh, I'm gonna do whatever it takes to get him better. All right. Just wanted you to know." He cuts the call and looks away from you.

You sigh and make your way to him.

"Hey," you sit down beside him and put your hand on his shoulder.

He looks up at you, looking so vulnerable. It broke your heart to see him like that. You furrowed your eyebrows and gazed into his eyes. The eyes you looked into when you needed comfort. The eyes that filled you with a sensation of being whole.

Sam looked at you too. Your eyes flick to his pink lips. You stop the thoughts of kissing him when someone knocks on the door.

Your eyes widen in surprise.

Sam gets up and makes his way to the door cautiously. He swings it open and your mouth hangs open.

Of course, it was Dean.

~~

"Man, you guys are lying bastards! Thought you said we were going to a doctor!" Dean says as you guys walk over to one of the white tents. The rain had made the path muddy and you groaned in disgust. Your shoes came back brown and dirty.

"I believe we said specialist. Look, Dean, this guy's supposed to be the real deal."

"I can't believe you brought me here to see some guy who heals people out of a tent!"

"Yeah, well it's our only shot." You mumble and Dean takes his arm off your shoulders and takes Sam's support. He was too weak to walk on his own. Or that's what you and Sam thought.

After meeting a girl called Layla and after Dean flirted with her, you guys walked into the tent and sat in the front. There were rows of people who were coughing or were sitting on wheelchairs. A few looked deathly pale and you wouldn't be surprised if they dropped dead in their condition.

A woman comes on stage and identifies herself as the healer's wife. The healer himself comes on stage. Reverend Roy Le Grange.

Everything was going fine, pleasant even until Dean opened his mouth to comment on something the reverend said.

"It is the Lord who does the healin' here, friends. The Lord, who guides me in choosin' who to heal, by helpin' me see into people's hearts."

"Yeah, or into their wallets," he smirks at you and you purse your lips.

"You think so, young man?"

Dean looks startled as the man on stage smiles pleasantly in your direction. You feel yourself cringe.

This just got awkward.

"Sorry," Dean says uncomfortably. Even dying, he managed to do shit like this.

"No, no, don't be. Just watch what you say around a blind man, we got real sharp ears. What's your name, son?" The reverend's voice was calm and serene; it held no anger.

Dean clears his throat and says his name.

"Dean," the reverend repeats and nods his head. "I want... I want you to come up here with me."

The crowd erupts in cheers and clapping and you look around. Though this weirded you out, hope surges in your body.

Dean looks around and speaks up again. "No. Nah, it's okay."

You feel your mouth hang.

Did he just nah a man who could save him?

"What are you doing?" Sam asks and you look at him too.

"You've come here to be healed, haven't you?" The blind man asks again in a pleasant voice.

"Well yeah, uh, but you should just pick someone else," Dean says after looking around again.

"Oh no, I didn't. I didn't pick you, Dean, the Lord did," the man chuckles slightly at Dean.

"Go!" You whisper shout and he looks at you and Sam warily. He reluctantly stands up and walks over to the stage. The crowd applauds and you take in a deep breath.

This had to work.

Dean and Roy speak a few words and then he asks us to pray for Dean. You close your eyes and look down. It didn't hurt to go all the way.

You hear Sam shout out Dean's name and you open your eyes. Dean was on the ground on his knees and Sam was running to him.

~~~~~~
The reverend's wife leashing a reaper and killing sinners. You never thought you'd use all those words in one single sentence.
Marshall Hall. The man who died to give Dean life. The man who died without agreeing to help Dean.
You limp back to the car, having injured your leg when you got stuck in the basement of the Le Grange's house.
"You okay?" Sam asks Dean who was standing next to the Impala. It was drizzling which made you feel a bit refreshed after what had just happened.
"Hell of a week," Dean says and you chuckle.
"That lady was a bitch," you add in.
~~
"What is it?" You ask Dean as you stuff your clothes in your bag. He was doing a thousand miles stare and had been doing it for quite a while.
He snaps out of his daze and looks up at you then Sam. "Nothing."
Sam puts his hands on his hips and you smirk at how he looked. "What is it?"
"Do you think we did the right thing here?" Dean asks and looks back up at you guys.
Sam doesn't hesitate in answering. "Of course."
"Doesn't feel like it," Dean says in a low voice and you bite the inside of your cheek.
Someone knocks on the door and Sam goes to answer it. You stuff another one of your shirts in your bag.
Sam opens the door to reveal the pretty blonde you had met the first day you arrived in this place. Layla.
Dean stands up and his mouth hangs open in surprise. You smile.
"Layla. Hey. How did you know I was here?" Dean asks her. She turns to look at you and Sam and smiles a bit.
"Sam and Y/n called me. Said that you wanted to say bye."
You smirk as you remember how you snatched the phone from Sam to talk to Layla.
"I'm gonna go get a soda," Sam says and raises his eyebrows at you. You nod in realization and follow him.
"Yeah, me too." You give Dean a thumbs up and a lopsided grin and he glares at you. You chuckle and close the motel door behind you.
"This case was crazy!" You exhale.
"Yeah," Sam chuckles. "But the cases I've been on before..."
"How long have you been hunting for?" You ask as you reach the vending machines next to the motel.
"Uh, I guess... Since I was ten," he squints his eyes as he tries to recall. "Maybe before that, too. I used to help my dad with hunts."
You nod. "I honestly don't know what to say."
He chuckles humourlessly. "Yeah."
"You think Dean and Layla are going to do it?" You ask abruptly as you punch the number of the drink you want.
Sam looks into the distance before his face scrunches up in disgust and amusement. "Ew, Y/n."
"Do you, though?" You ask again. You bend down to get your soda.
"I don't know, probably-" he stops and you suddenly feel his hands pulling up your shirt.
"What the-" You stand straight. His eyebrows were furrowed and he was looking at your side. He was lifting your shirt with his right hand and was examining the scar on your skin.
"Y/n. What is this?" He asks in a stern voice. You get a little surprised by his tone and put your hand on top of his. You slowly push it off and memories of the car crash come flooding in your mind. Your older brother...
"Y/n. What is that?" Sam asks a bit louder.
"I was in a car accident," you say blandly and open the can of soda. You take a sip and look at his bewildered expression.
"You...were in a car accident? When? How?"
You chuckle a bit. "Sam, it happened when I was 14. There's nothing to worry about."
"So you just failed to mention that you got into a car accident before?" He asks sarcastically as he moves to the vending machine and takes his soda.
"I didn't want to mention it," you shrug. He shakes his head and brings his hand forward only to stop midway.
"May I?" He asks. Worry was written all over his face.
You take a deep breath. You would do anything for Sam to touch you but talking about the car crash... It wasn't something you wanted to do.
"No... I can't, Sam." You reply warily, your chest tightening.
"It's okay. I understand," he drops his hand and takes a step back.
"Hey guys," a pleasant woman's voice says. You turn around to say Layla and smile warmly at her.
"Hi," you respond back.
You two talked for a while. Talked about how Sue had a 'seizure' and about Roy.
You noticed Sam staring at you, his eyes occasionally flicking to the scar on your side. But you dared not look at him. You couldn't think about it.
[End of Episode 11 | Faith]
A/n: Hey amazing people!
Oh that was so cringy. (But you guys are amazing!"
Btw, I feel like there would be a whole new side of Sam when he's with Y/n, so I've tried incorporating that here. I feel like he would be more vulnerable and open with Y/n than he is with Dean. But then almost losing your brother may make you a bit harsh...?
Anyways, I hope you liked the chapter. I didn't include much of what happened in the episode because of what happened between Sam and the M/C. And also because I was late in publishing.
I'll try to maintain a publishing rate. Like once or twice a week.
I don't know.
But I hope you guys have a great day!
XOXO
