Box of Cries

The Elahim Brothers1,187 words~6 min read

We successfully completed a week together. I was hurrying my way to the home. I buy groceries alone. When I parked at the supermarket, I saw Miss Rosalind.

I avoided the contact and returned home. Al-Souffian is not friendly at the least point in the day.

"You are a Vampire " I teased.

"You, a wasp" he retaliated.

Mr Rahim bought a Mobile, so I asked Al-Souffian if he could call at Dar-Al-Maqamah. I wanted to talk to Fateh.

He talked on for a moment and then I took the line.

Tears accumulated in my eyes "Fateh? How are you...? "

"I'm good. How are you Falaq-Naaz? I hope you are enjoying your life in the City. Will you send me the new Lego toy? "

"yes of course! I hope you aren't troubling Al-Wildan. How's father.... And grandma.... is she alright? " my tears fall one after the other.

"yes.. All is well. Father is out on a business trip "

"Can I talk to Al-Wildan? "I desperately asked.

"No... he is not here. No..... he is sleeping. Okay bye"

Al-Wildan was present, he did not want to speak. I cried. I turned to Al-Souffian, rolling his eyes.

"Wot" I teased and left.

Al-Souffian was sleeping after his Magrib prayers. Not again.

I heard the aggravated bell.

It was Mr Rahim with many Boxes.

"What are these? " I inquired

"Master's and Her Ladyship's luggage "

Our luggage?

He lumbered away.

I sighed. Boxes...

I opened the one with my name.

The scenario made me numb.

The cobalt blue dress of mine, shredded to pieces. The black dress Mrs Kasheefa gifted me; All all dresses, all ripped and torn up.

How malicious!

I opened the other Box, my books all stabbed by a dagger. My scarves all dirty and muddy. Only one small package containing the gift of Mr Elahim aside, safely. I threw it out on the floor!

I closed my eyes and breathed out. The fiery rising in me. I scorn him! I abhor him!

I trudged to the kitchen and opened the gas stove, my eyes fixed at the flame. My mind escaping from my slippery hands.

You will never tell my sons, the secret of this marriage.

The callous blue fame and the undignified fight with the wind. The burning cries of my hollow soul, the sombre eyes of Al-Hassan. He burns everything!

I reduced the flame and indulged in the chores aggressively to forget the Boxes.

The counter was clean, the food was cooked. The dishes were washed, the night was solemn.

I breathed in the sweet fragrance of jasmine bought by Mr Rahim thus morning. Man finds peace in Nature and Nature is part of a Man.

I heard a Shrill in the air that alarmed me.

The short breaths turned into a scream. I stood on my feet.

The scream quavering my being.

I came out of the kitchen and leaned from the wall.

Slow steps.

Slow scared steps.

I saw Al-Souffian madly throwing out the items off the boxes!

"Al-Souffian! " I bolted out.

He screamed violently, the trembling voice robusting through the apartment like a howl in an empty forest.

"Why.... !!!" he screamed yet again, louder and full of fury.

My steps reversing backwards.

I saw his face, red and eyes as a Phoenix on flame. The macabre of the cries and the unholiness of the voluntary submission into the evasive maneuvers. The muffled then hoarse voice of the Mighty man screaming and hollering on the floor sliced my heart bit. by. bit.

My voice lost inside. I spoke but nothing could hear me. I called his name, my lips moved, my tears streamed but Al-Souffian was entirely lost.

Scathing into the violent screams and his poisonous cries.

He growled on the floor, scattered away the things and now I saw, the unformely black scuplture of the man with an axe broken on the top. The pitch black ball in two pieces. His alchemist books all soaked and wet. His clothes, though entirely secure, he smacked them. The sheen of his eyes ,lost ,madder dipped in raucous misery.

I touched him and he screamed louder.

I ran to the kitchen and sat in a corner. The haunting, the horrifying, the pitiful cries of Al-Souffian had me trembling in fear and anxiety.

I covered my ears with my shaking hands. The water from my eyes secluding to the marble flooring .

I sat there the cries hummed softly. Then at once dissaperred. I posted myself to the corner till my tears were dry.

I emerged with the sun, following the sunlight as it leads me to the obscene room.

I saw the boxes all destroyed. The patience of mine still sitting in horror at the side. I examined the dirty fragile labelled heart breaking boxes, Al-Souffian's bed sheets, his clothes, his black attire and his leather gloves....his signature leather gloves..... There was everything.

I looked at the rude Grey door.

The silence silver and soiled.

The background in stiff noises and honking chaotic bleak.

I embraced myself to sleep away the horror of last night.

I cried helplessly.

Until I passed into the Dark.

But I am afraid of the dark.

I woke up up suddenly.

Panicked of the dreams. I rubbed my cheeks. The clock ticked. Two past five.

From the corner of my eye, the boxes offensively poked me.

I dragged them and packed all the objects and stuffed them into the wardrobe of the other room.

I washed my face and hurried to cooking.

When the obsessive cleaning was completely over. I walked to his room. As the room came nearer, I became nervous.

Slow steps,

Slow scared steps.

I breathed in.

I knocked. "Al-Souffian, lunch is ready" I casually said.

"Al-Souffian? " I spoke again in the humid air of the afternoon.

I sighed and turned the door knob.

The room was the color amaranthine, thick and indigenous in the walls.

I pursed my lips I could hear my breath. I opened the curtains and the weak light from the clouds covered the floor.

Al-Souffian with his half body overhanging from the bed. The other half laying lifeless.

I sat beside him, his face pals, his breath humming softly under my chin. His eyes closed with the wet web of tears. His forehead folds, his clench on his jaw.... Breathing heavily.

I ran my fingers in his hair.

I removed his leather gloves and placed them on the side table.

I took his hands in mine.

I sat in his company for hours but he did not Open his eyes or he would not open his eyes.

I left the room. Whenever I am close to happiness everything comes tumbling down. The higher I reach, the lower I fall.

Unfair.

I had my dinner alone. This forlorn ties of my soul that wouldn't leave me ever. I was saddened by everything in the house.

I took the dinner to his door and realized he had locked the door.

One day,

Two days,

Three days,

Days went by but he did not Open the Rude Grey Door.
