My life until now was nothing special.
I studied at university, worked part-time at a convenience store, and hung out with friends.
But recently, that has changed.
âIâm home.â
I opened the front door.
âAh, Matsuo-san. Welcome home.â
Ando-san said to me, standing in the kitchen, dressed in a T-shirt and G-pants.
She had a day off from her part-time job today, so she had gone home ahead of me after college to prepare dinner.
âThank you, Ando-san.â
âHmm?â
âNo, for making dinner. This is the smell of miso soup, right? It smells soo good.â
I said, smiling.
But Ando-san was â¦.
She again had tears in her eyes. She cries a lot. But there was a reason for it.
There is a reason why she cries like this, every now and then.
I just recently met her.
Even though we live in the same house, we do not have a relationship in which we can be completely comfortable sharing things with each other yet. But still, I want to comfort her wounded heart as much as I can.
ââ¦. Ah.â
I gently placed my hand on her head.
âGood girl, Ando-san is a good girl.â
I sounded as if I was soothing a child.
But â¦
ââ¦.Thank you.â
Ando-san smiled happily.
âHaha ⦠hmm?â
âWhatâs wrong?â
âNo, I was just wondering, â¦., Ando-san, do you go to the hair salonâ
âU-um,â¦â¦ I havenât been to one for a long time.â
âThen, could it be that this hair is â¦â
âY-yes. I cut it myself.â
I see, no wonder.
Overall, I donât see much of a difference. Up close, the hair ends were a little disheveled.
She was so dexterous that she could cook and do housework perfectly, so she may be good at self-cutting. But even so, she was still an amateur, so her hair was a little uneven.
â⦠Alright. Letâs go get you a haircut next time,â
âHuh?â
âAnd while weâre at it, letâs buy some clothes, tooâ
âB-But I donât have that kind of moneyâ¦.â
âDonât worry, Iâll pay for it.â
âN-No, I-I canât let you do that! Even if weâre just living in the same roomâ¦.â
âAndo-sanâ
âY-yes.â
âDonât hold back, just rely on me.â
I smiled and said,
ââ¦w-why are you, why are you being so kind to me?â
Ando-san stared at me, eyes still wet with tears, and said,
âThatâs â¦.â
I was a little lost for an answer. I was not sure how I should answer.
ââ¦Ando-san, you are a really nice girl, I just canât leave you alone.â
âNice..girl?â
âUh, yeah. Itâs rare these days.â
My words became a little awkward as I tried not to hurt Ando-sanâs sensitive feelings.
ââ¦. Um, Matsuo-san.â
âHmm?â
âI will take advantage of your kindness.â
âYes, please.â
âBut in return, Iâd like to do something for you.â
âWhat? No, itâs fine. You always make me a delicious meal.â
âB-But, thatâs only naturalâ¦I want to do more for Matsuo-sanâ¦â
With that, Ando-san turned off the stove and once again, turned to me.
âU-um, Matsuo-san.â
âYes?â
âT-Thatâsâ¦.I,My body is weak and thin and you may not be able to have any fun, B-But..â
Ando-san blushed and said with a sullen look on his face.
âI-if you donât mind, ⦠do what you want.â
For a moment I couldnât understand what she was saying.
ââ¦â¦ uh, Ando-san?â
âI-Iâm a virgin, but Iâll do my best!â
She said and tried to take off her T-shirt.
âWoah, wait a minute!â
I stopped her quickly.
âLetâs calm down, Ando-san.â
I took her to the living room and made her sit down
âAre you fine, Ando-san?â
âY-yes.â
âI donât want anything from you.â
âHuh!â¦I-I knew it, my body is not enough,â¦â
âNot like thatâ¦Even without that, I will help you.â
âMatsuo-san?
âI mean, Iâm glad that you feel that way⦠But demanding a girlâs body in exchange for helping her is the lowest kind of thing a man can do.â
âAh â¦, Iâm sorry! I-I didnât mean to imply that Matsuo-san is such a scumbag,â¦!â
âI know that.â
I smiled and patted her head.
âYosh, letâs eat. Iâm starving.â
âY-yes. All I have to do is serve it.â
âWell, Iâll take care of serving.â
We got up and did our respective jobs. And on the table, there were delicious-looking dishes again today.
âOh, cabbage rollsâ¦as usual, theyâre magnificent.â
âT-thatâsâ¦â
âAh, which is better, ketchup or black pepper?â
I asked,
âWell, yeah⦠but I think Iâd be happy if you tasted it as it is. â¦â
âReally now. Can I have some then?â
âp-please. â¦â¦â
For some reason, Ando-san blushed and looked down. Since she was such a good cook, she should be more confident. After all, she was a good girl, humble and modest.
She definitely deserves to be happy.
â⦠Yeah, itâs delicious!â
âR-Really?â
âI donât think Iâll ever need ketchup or black pepper again.â
âI-Iâm so happy â¦â¦, but since youâre here, try different things.â
âReally? Well, Iâll give it a try. A taste change?â
âYes, thatâs right.â
She nodded.
âOh, thatâs right. When shall we go for a haircut?â
âY-yeaâ¦â
Me and Ando-san took our time discussing over a hot supper.
