âMom, let me give you a back rub.â Elowen kicked off her shoes. She quickly climbed onto the couch, her small hands on Thalassaâs shoulders, kneading away.
âMom, Ill massage your legs.â Dorian toddled over, his little palms rubbing Thalassaâs legs, his baby face filled with concentration.
Atticus and Sophia joined in too. Sophia worked with Elowen, one on each side, massaging Thalassaâs back. Atticus teamed up with Dorian, each taking a leg.
Even though the kidsâ strength was far from enough to give a proper massage, Thalassa felt a warmth in her heart. Her fatigue was swept away, replaced by a sense of happiness.
âThalassa, youâre usually not this wom out from work. What happened?â Evelyn emerged from the kitchen, noticing her daughterâs unusual state, she couldnât help but express concern.
While being pampered by her four children, Thalassa said to Evelyn, âI got to work today and found out everyone was talking about the CEO and his secretary. And somehow, the secretary claimed it was me who spread the rumors. I felt so wronged.â
âWell, you shouldâve explained. We canât just be blamed for no reasonâ Evelyn, who is usually quite strict with Thalassa and always pushing her to improve, is firm when it comes to principles and expects Thalassa to stand her ground as well.
Their family was honest and hardworking, they couldnât just be falsely accused.
Thalassa said, âI did explain. But yesterday when I was cleaning the CEOâs office, I happened to see the secretary confessing her feelings to the CEO. She used that as a reason to accuse me of spreading rumors.â
âThatâs tricky. You need to find proof to vindicate yourself. Evelyn also felt troubled.
The worst thing Thalassa could do now was to quit. If she did, it would look like she was guilty and had resigned, this would solidify the accusations of her spreading rumors.
Thalassa understood this. It was the reason she hadnât tendered her resignation.
âToday, while I was cleaning the CEOâs office, I noticed thereâs a CCTV camera. It mustâve recorded me in the office yesterday. If thereâs a video, it would prove I didnât overhear their conversation. Ill ask the CEO to review the footage tomorrow and clear my name. Donât worry, mom.â Thalassa said optimistically.
Even though Evelyn was often strict with her, Thalassa always felt comfortable sharing her problems with her mother. Because her mother was principled when it came to interpersonal relationships and worldly matters.
This was in line with Thalassaâs own values.
âThatâs good, go wash your hands and get ready for dinner.â Evelyn said.
After dinner. Thalassa, Astrid, and Evelyn sat in the living room watching TV.
In the bedroom, the four children were huddled together.
The kids were discussing something important.
âMom was wrongly accused, we need to think of a way to help her.â Atticus, being the eldest, rallied his younger siblings to brainstorm.
âI feel so bad for mom. Sheâs so kind and sweet, why is she always bullied?â Dorian pouted, his large eyes filled with sympathy for Thalassa âIll cuddle with mom tonight, to make sure she doesnât cry.â Elowenâs voice was soft, his big eyes brimming with tears.
âI plan to go to the company with mom tomorrow and tell her boss that she didnât do anything wrong.â
Sophia raised her hand, offering her suggestion.
Atticus replied, âNo, youâre too young.â
âOkay..â Sophia seemed a little disappointed.
Atticus, his young but deep eyes looking at Dorian, made a decision, âTomorrow, Dorian and I will go.
You two stay home and stay with grandma,â
The next day.
Thalassa arrived at the company on time. There were already people in the elevator, the doors were about to close.
â
Thalassa hurriedly quickened her pace, âWait, please!â
She dashed over, just as the elevator doors were about to close, she stepped in. Everyone in the elevator was her colleague.
As soon as she entered, she noticed everyone was looking at her strangely.
She thought it was because she ran too hastily and might have disturbed others, so she bowed her head slightly and smiled apologetically.
A woman sneered, âIsnât this the janitor who was spreading rumors about her and Mr. Sinclair yesterday? Sheâs trying to worm her way into Mr. Sinclairâs bed, even trying to move up in society. But it seems sheâs still working in the Cleaning Department, guess it didnât work out, huh?
