âNo way Iâm risking my paycheck over a few extra minutes of sleep, Thalassa quipped with a chuckle.
âHey, how did the interview go yesterday?â Ethan strolled into the secretaryâs office and plopped down in an empty chair.
âWent off without a hitch,â Thalassa replied.
But the trek back home was anything but smooth. A story she didnât feel like sharing with Ethan.
âWell, thatâs a relief. Oh, by the way, Richard called me last night, asking for your number. What does he want with you?â Ethan had been half-asleep when Richard rang him up the previous evening, and it struck him as odd this morning.
What business could Richard possibly have with Thalassa? Everyone knew she was Lysanderâs lady-
pursuing her would be out of the question.
âMy phone was off last night. I missed his call,â Thalassa explained, puzzled about why Richard would want her number.
Did Richard return after dropping Charlotte home yesterday, intending to take her home? Maybe, not finding her waiting for a ride, he asked Ethan for her number to check her whereabouts?
âRight, no biggie then,â Ethan dismissed it.
âGet your things in order. Youâve got to head over to the Sinclair Group to wrap up the loose ends from our previous collaboration,â Ethan abruptly added.
Thalassaâs curiosity piqued. âWhat collaboration?â
âThe contract we signed with the Sinclair Group for outsourcing phone production. Although weâve compensated for the mishap, our agreement with the Sinclair Group is still in effect. So, we need to discuss the matter of termination,â Ethan explained.
âThis is major, Mr. Ethan. Shouldnât you be handling it personally?â Thalassa pressed, concerned.
Ethan suddenly grinned, a knowing look in his eyes. âArenât you my secretary? Handling negotiations is part of your job. Besides, youâve got a way with Lysander that I canât match.â
âThereâs nothing between me and Lysander,â Thalassa said, her tone darkening as she corrected him.
Ethan kept playing that card, exploiting her supposed connection with Lysander for business leverage.
The man was cunning incarnate.
âMs. Everhart, letâs not be modest. Youâre the only one cut out for this task. No one else can handle it.
Find a suitable time to meet with them. Iâve got to run.â With that, Ethan stood up and briskly exited the office, not leaving Thalassa a moment to object.
âHey, Mr. Ethanâ¦â She tried to argue, calling out to his retreating figure.
But Ethanâs pace quickened, and soon he was out of sight.
Thalassa sighed.
Ethan was a real piece of work, slyer than David, always pushing her into the fire.
Just the thought of last nightâs encounter in Lysanderâs office, his unrestrained appetite for her, sent shivers of dread through her.
Now she was being sent back there, her insides roiling in protest.
But a job was a job, and Ethanâs orders were not to be ignored.
